My personal goal is to try and make fanfic binding as accessible to everyone as possible, so here are some resources on how to make a fanfic hardcover for under $25.

This is a barebones bind for the broke college students and such. Happy to field questions, too!

Here's a proposed budget breakdown:

Loosely organized thoughts:

Fanfic bookbinders often share typesets amongst each other. Never pay for a typeset for a fanfic.

You'll hear a lot about grain direction for your printer paper, but as a newbie on a budget without your own printer, settle for some nice 92 bright paper. If you like the hobby, splurge after but expect to pay at least 2-3x more for short grain paper.

Printing is a pain because some copy shops won't let you print intellectual property smut, and it's very expensive. You are better off bartering instead or looking for a free printer on Buy Nothing.

You know the thick paper wrapping that comes with online orders? It's a good weight for endpapers if you need to scrounge. Paper grocery bags or gift bags (birthday presents) might work, too.

Ask your local library to give you covers from books they are throwing out. Ask for outdated textbooks (those covers are built like tanks) or three-ring binders that are too busted to be binders anymore.

Obtain a used book that was mass produced (so your destruction of it does not impede anyone's access) and maybe even become a little vindictive with it.

If you can afford it, I recommend the Olfa SVR knife (~$10)

If you can afford it, upgrade your ruler to a t-square.

I really hope this resource is helpful! I want to stress how possible this is and encourage people to cherish what they love through art.

Requirements for sign-up: 

For the sign-up, all you need to let us know is that you'd like to participate! 

Artists, however, will get an extra form to fill out: we are asking you to submit your prompt(s) between May 9 and June 9, including a written version and a rough sketch. (Don't forget the guide, if you want a sneak peek!)

Requirements for posting:

By the end of October, you'll need to create an art piece (lineart with flat colors) or a fic (a minimum of 5000 words).

Prepare all your JayDick thoughts, share the word, and from tomorrow, join us in making them kiss! (Or hug. Or try to kill each other. Go wild!)

In what role are you interested in signing up for?

We got a fantastic amount of answers, but the artist-to-author ratio is unbalanced – we are hoping this will even out a bit during the sign-ups, but we are looking into options on how we could help this along. For example, we are adjusting the sign-up process, so artists have a bit more time to figure out their prompt. This way, they’ll also have access to our discord server (brainstorming sessions! sprints!) between sign-ups and prompt submission. We are coming with the details in the next couple of days, keep an eye out!

We asked how do you feel about the 4-month deadline, and the answers were promising. If anyone is worried about making the deadline, rest assured, we are already making plans to give you all the time we can while being mindful of other fandom events. When asked if you felt you would finish within the 4 months, you answered:

We also asked artists if they’d like more time to submit their prompts, instead of having to send in the full thing, sketch included, in the sign-up form. Based on this, we will be shuffling stuff around — there’ll be a post about the full details soon.

And lastly, an update on the timezone situation: our posts are mainly going to go live in the Americas timezones. This also includes making sure none of our forms close too early — there’ll always be a bit of leeway to make sure everyone can get their answers in. (Although that doesn’t mean you should leave it to the last minute!)

Like, just picture Catherine and Willis yelling at and insulting Bruce repeatedly, Janet and Jack constantly fussing and worrying, and Mary and John in the background voicing Bruce's most intrusive (and often suicidal) thoughts.

This event will pair artists and writers together to create fanworks for our favorite pairing. While bangs usually have authors submit work for artists to claim for a collaborative project, this reverse bang will have artists submit a work in progress for a writer to claim.
