Just... let me talk about Claire Fitzroy & Six before I lose my mind thanks.

One of their first actual interactions she pointed out his Sisyphus tattoo.

Real quick run down of Sisyphus. He was punished for cheating death twice. He also had a habit of killing his guests & travelers which was a big no no in Greek Culture. He was punished by Zeus by forcing him to push a rock up a big hill & as soon as he reached the top it would roll back down forcing him to continue forever.

Six sees himself as Sisyphus. He probably thinks he deserves all the pain he gets. Ever since he was 15 and in prison for killing his abusive father to save his brother.

What's great about Claire is she doesn't ask what Sisyphus DID to deserve that punishment. She asks "if he DESERVED it" which is so important for their dynamic. She's not judging him for what he does. She's asking if he deserves the pain, if he THINKS he deserves this pain. This is evident based off how the conversation STARTED. She never asked what he did to get in prison, where he got the tattoo, either.

Then how the conversation wraps up. She asks if Sisyphus/Six ever gets to the top of the hill.

Six: "I'll let you know..." that means Six is punishing himself for his own guilt until the end of the film. He was going to be locked up forever & forced to be used as a weapon. He escapes & takes Claire with him because he deserves to reach the top, to be free, to be happy with Claire away from prison.
