It’s also fascinating that fpj mentioned several times that rex and the bendu are also kanan’s masters, just like the grand inquisitor. He learned different things from each of them every season.

I’ve been listening to old podcasts and interviews and taking notes and here’re some of them (they’re all about kanan jarrus).

1️⃣

Rex was born with unconditional trust in the Jedi, he’s the most loyal soldier ever written in the history of cinema. But to Kanan, his face means death. Someone with that exact face killed his mother. The only reason Kanan trusts Rex at all is because Ahsoka, his superior and the only other survivor of his people, asked him to. He will follow her orders to trust Rex with his back in a fight, but the moment the crisis is over, he’ll be the first to turn around.

In other words, Kanan keeps making Rex prove he’s worthy of trust, but Rex won’t ask Kanan to do anything. Just his existence is enough for Rex to hand over everything.

The jaig eyes on Kanan’s mask mean that he has learnt to see things through Rex’s perspective.

3️⃣

Caleb used to be a highly disciplined kid, and after Order 66, his growth in many aspects (mental/force abilities/etc.) stalled. Kanan looks cocky and rebellious, but deep down he still clings to the relatively strict and rigid way of doing things he was raised with. This makes Ezra’s entire existence a challenge to him, because Ezra is a lively, reckless kid bursting with huge potential, which he finds very hard to handle.

The Grand Inquisitor recognised that Kanan’s training came from Depa the first time they fought. From then on, every time they fought again, he switched to Depa’s form. He took over from Depa, who had only taught Caleb for three months, in completing his training. From this point of view, he was also one of Kanan’s masters.

Their training ended when Kanan (indirectly) killed the Grand Inquisitor. The apprentice killing his master is the way of the Sith. But Kanan was able to defeat the Grand Inquisitor because he cast aside his attachments and released his full power after mistakenly believing Ezra had died, and no attachments is the first thing you learn to become a Jedi.

Why is Hera spectre 2 and Kanan is spectre 1:

First of all, there’s no doubt Hera is the leader of the ghost crew. She’s the only one in the squad who knows the entirety of rebel alliance’s bigger picture. So making someone who knows less but is still as important (a Jedi) spectre 1 is a strategic decoy. The Empire will focus their attention on Kanan first, but even if he’s captured, he can’t give up any critical info.

Secondly, Kanan’s the type of guy who’s “always right especially when he’s wrong.” Hera purposely gave him the title that sounds important enough but actually doesn’t matter much to the team to make him feel powerful (it’s so stupid I love them).

i dont think i could choose a definitive fave because i have like a mental compendium of headcanons that make up the way i perceive kanan

but im always fond of the idea that the name "kanan" was picked up from a jedi nickname caleb had as a child at the temple. i think i stole it from a fic that i cant quite remember but its so endearing to me. caleb who just cant quite let go of being a jedi even if he has to

One of the tubie toddlers (“how long are they considered tubies?’’Idk”) woke up after the uprising. He’s never seen an adult clone, only its batch mates, droids and the occasional kaminoan. He low-key imprinted on a trooper, and refused to be passed to anyone else, until one of them took off his bucket as well.

Bonus:

They would have gotten latrine duty, but Fox knows they’re soon going to need a lot of babysitters.

“my sister in Kanera” is how I would like to be addressed from now on

I have given this a lot of thought and my answer is yes. But very specifically I feel like it would actually be some random object that he has repurposed to hold up his hair because he can’t keep track of his hair ties. Like, he clearly loves his hair but can’t stand it being in the way while he’s working, so he’s using, like, a spare droid manipulator as a hair clip. Hera finds it endearing and a little annoying because she’ll be looking for a random part and it’s just in Kanan’s hair.

And yes, he borrowed those goggles from Hera. She never uses them anyway.
