another thing making me think about egg-collecting and anti-completionist “punishments” regardless of if other people found them easier than me or they become easier to find in future chapters etc etc is finding out that collecting an egg in any chapter prevents the player from getting the chapter complete trophy on playstation. feels a little vindictive, like “well even if you go out of your way to get every collectable, you still won’t be able to get every single thing”
ofc you can just finish the chapter with a separate save in which you don’t have the egg though. but the effort it makes you expend to both get every trophy AND have saves with the eggs (finishing each chapter from around the middle right before the egg rooms, twice) is at the very least meant to indicate some resistance, yea?
interesting thing to note tho is how the wording for the chapter complete trophies descriptions are all “COMPLETE WITHOUT ISSUE” which implies ig that finding the egg is uniquely an “issue” in a way that dying/weird routing/etc are not? much 2 ponder
considering the metanarrative of undertale and some of the wording around deltarune’s release i wouldnt be shocked if theres some kind of “punishment” rather than “reward” for collecting all the eggs by the end of deltarune, or at least a very intentional lack of satisfying reward. unlike the shadow crystals theres no way to just know how to find eggs other than data mining, extremely rare luck after exhausting a bunch of options, or looking it up online. because there is no natural intuitive way to find eggs if youre just playing and enjoying the story like a regular person as opposed to a completionist, to me it seems inevitable that someone whos previously written an explicitly anti-completionist game and is currently implementing other anti-completionist aspects in his current project will make the egg-hunting players worse off at some point

ive always been a rev fan but even in 2015 i was confused by the most common compliment they got on their utau stuff being “wow youre the best at making utau sound so natural and smooth and human” i think theres a whole subtype of vocaloid/utau fan for whom that is the only kind of compliment they could think to give even when it doesnt really apply. usually a synth sounds like a synth its literally fine bro

right before leaving town i got 99.9% of the way thru chapter 3 of deltarune at my gfs apartment so now im allowed to talk about it more. i still know very little about ch4 other than having spoiled myself for the weird route scenes in it tho.
