Reflective Portfolio Essay
In this portfolio, I have included coursework material from Spanish Composition and Grammar. In the first section of the portfolio I have a cover page, a personal photo of myself, a table of contents. The cover page of my portfolio I was inspired by my cultural roots, and I tried to include the artwork of flowers that is so incorporated into Mexican artwork. Unfortunately, the image I wanted to use originally did not work well with the format. I wanted the cover page to be appealing to the eye, and symbolize the love for nature that I have. I wanted to keep the theme of Mexican artwork in my portfolio, and that is why I chose the bright yellow color for the background of my personal photo. I was inspired by Mexican houses that have bright, vibrant colors on the inside and outside of the homes. I wanted my portfolio to have a deeper reflection of myself as a person, and I hope that I accomplished that. In the second section I have included my worst essay from the course which was the first essay I wrote this semester was the Paso 2 assignment. The best essay I wrote this semester was Una reseña del cuento, and it is included in the third section. I determined which were my best and worst essays based on the grades I received from the essays. When I wrote the reseña I researched more about how to write one, and looked for examples in the course textbook. I believe that doing so reflected on my grade, and I felt more motivated during the time I wrote the reseña. The Paso 2 assignment was earlier on in the semester, and I was not that familiar on how to properly do my work for the course, and I did not take the time to research. Paso 2 was a rushed job, and I know that I could have done much better if I put more time and effort into the assignment. Moving forward, I included the writing process work when I begin to write an assignment. There is also a section of brainstorming notes, and a Venn diagram for my work when I began to write my essays. In my process of writing essays in the course I had outlines of what the essay was supposed to cover in each step of concluding the final project. I had to go back and remember what exactly I did to begin my essays because I usually do not write out my ideas; I rather just begin my work from the thoughts I already have and began to do the assignment. I also like reading what the content should be according to the syllabus and the instructions on blackboard. I also included the worksheets that I have done throughout the course in Spanish Composition and Grammar. The first assignment that I did was translate an article about killer robots. The assignment in itself was not that difficult, but my vocabulary with some words was not correct. In class I corrected most of the errors I had made on the assignment. The second assignment I did was translate an interview of Pablo Escobar’s son. I personally think I performed well in this assignment due to the previous assignment of translating the article from Spanish to English. I enjoyed doing these assignments because it made me realize that the words I am so used to saying are not grammatically correct. In another assignment listed, was the assignment about describing your best friend. This was an interesting assignment because there are a lot of words in Spanish that cannot be translated in English, and if they are it does not have the same sentimental meaning behind it. I also made a daily schedule of what I do on a day to day basis. The schedule was very detailed, and I had to think outside the box to continue adding events to my daily routine. In the first part of the final project, I had to write about what the story I had read was about. Overall, I added most of the assignments from this semester. The portfolio displayed the accomplishments I had obtained in the course. When I first began to create the portfolio, it was difficult for me to find a platform to display it on. At first, I was going to do the portfolio on canvas, but the website was not displaying the content the way I wanted it to, so I decided to take a different route. I began to think where else could I display all of my achievement in an appealing manner, and I decided on using the social media site of Tumblr. I previously used Tumblr for a course I had taken before Spanish Composition and Grammar, and thought it would be a great alternative. Tumblr was more accessible in my opinion, and it displayed my content in an organized manner. Overall, my writing throughout this course has changed dramatically. I have learned to give more detailed information in my Spanish essays. I was also exposed to different works of writing in Spanish, and it has inspired me to read more articles and books in Spanish to expand both my vocabulary and knowledge. I enjoyed making this portfolio and adding personal pieces of myself to not only professionally reflect myself in the classroom, but also as an individual.

PASO 2: Para entregar La Viuda de Montiel
La Viuda de Montiel es parte de la colección de cuentos de Los Funerales de la Mama Grande. Estas historias fueron escritas por el autor colombiano Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Las historias fueron publicadas en el año 1962. Cuando yo comencé a buscar criticas para el cuento La Viuda de Montiel era un poco difícil porque en el internet hay pocos reportes de comentario de el autor Gabriel García Márquez. La Viuda de Montiel es una historia triste e interesante por la violencia en la political del país de Colombia y también por el amor. La viuda nunca se le llama por su nombre ya que no es tan importante como el señor Montiel. Como mencione al principio el cuento es parte de la colección de cuentos Los Funerales de la Mama Grande. El cuento de simboliza como afecta las clases sociales en la sociedad. Hice lo mas que pude para encontrar reportes en los databases de la biblioteca para apoyar mi punto de vista. El tesis de cual quiero hablar en el texto es de la realidad y violencia en el pais de Colombia. Escogí pocos documentos que soportan el tesis, y también la literatura de Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Reseña: La Viuda de Montiel
Este cuento es emocionante y tomo a sorpresa al lector en el principio de leer las primeras frases. Hasta el titulo es llamativo y yo personalmente lo recomiendo para que uno lo lea. Principalmente hay dos temas del cuento que son la muerte, y la corupcion y violencia. La muerte es algo que todos tememos y cuando alguien cercano se muere son momentos dificiles y deprimidos. La muerte Jose Montiel tomo de sorpresa a su esposa y a todos del pueblo. La viuda no sabe vivir sin su esposó, ha pasado toda su vida a lado de el y le tiene mucho amor y respecto. La gente del pueblo tiene diferentes opiniones del Jose Montiel por ser un hombre corupto y maligno. Jose Montiel mato a muchas personas inocentes, y se alegran al oír de su muerte. Cuando era el velorio de Jose Montiel la viuda esperaba que muchas personas asistirían, pero no fue así. Los mismos hijos de Jose Montiel no fueron porqué temían por sus vidas por la violencia que había. Lo único que mandan los hijos son telegramas de 3 paginas donde dicen sus condolencias.
La viuda pasa dos meses encerada en su casa, sin abrir las cortinas y se empezó a morder las unas de tanta ansiedad. Cuando lee que los hijos no asistieron al funeral de su padre me quede muy sorprendida, pero a la vez entendí las razones por las que no fueron. Creo que Gabriel Garcia Marquez hizo un gran ejemplo en lo qué pasa en las familias en especial las familias de colómbia por tanta corupcion y actos violentos. También lo que les ocurre a las personas deprimidas y los malos ratos que pasan. El cuento no da mucha información de la viuda pero me
imagino que era una señora sencilla sin poca familia, y era ciega por el amor que le tenia a Jose Montiel. El Señor Carmichael era un buen hombre, y le ayudaba a la viuda con los negocios. A mi personalmente me gusto el personaje del Señor Carmichael porqué simboliza una luz en la historia de tante tristeza, y maldad es una esperanza para la viuda. Finalmente el cuento termina un año después y la viuda llama varías veces a la muerte, y me dejo en gran pensamiento si la viuda se quiera matar o tomo otro camino después de la muerte de su esposo.

Process for writing: I would first read the story of La Viuda de Montiel over to refresh my memory. I would look into the first steps to see what I had already written. I would then go online to look for resources for the paper. I also would go and read the essay over to myself out-loud to check for any grammatical errors.
Brainstorming notes: My brainstorming notes would consist of: What do I need to research? Find more analysis of why La Viuda is the way she is? How long has corruption occurred in Colombia and Latin American countries, etc.

Alejandro y su familia
1. El tema de la historia es la religiones.
2. Senar era un rey moro que tenía un ejercito. Sancho era un rey cristiano que quería salvar a los cristianos.
3. Para hablar de la esclavos y como la gente debe aceptar uno al otro.
4. La intuducion presenta a un niño huérfano que se llama Alejandro en la ciudad de Toledo en el siglo XIII. Su mejor amigo era un arabe que se llamaba Abdul. Había varias personas de diferentes religiones y todos vivían en harmonia. La complicación fue cuando llego el rey Senar a la ciudad de Toledo. Durante ocho días la gente de Toledo se peleo con el ejercito. Al octavo día Senar hizo la gente de Toledo sus esclavos. El deslance de la historia era que llego el rey Sancho y invadió a la ciudad para rescatar a los esclavos. Cuando se entero que la familia de Abdul salvo a Alejandro permitió que la familia estuviera en la libertad. Encarceló al Rey Senar por sus acciones, y después la ciudad regreso a respetar todos las culturas.

Pablo Escobar's son Interview: "The true organized crime is in politics"
He comes calm and without bodyguards to the interview with Clarin. Legally, he is Sebastian Marroquin, but his real name is Juan Pablo Escobar Henao, Pablo Escobar's son, the boss of the Medellin cartel who in the 80s and early 90s covered Colombia in massacres and took democratic institutions to their limit. The son of "the boss of evil" has recently published a new book: Pablo Escobar in fraganti. In this opportunity, and after the success of: Pablo Escobar, mi padre, he crosses international ties that the criminal organization had with the good side of history, and the harm that the soap operas and series have of drug trafficking which makes it critical to understand because they glorify the mafias, and the expansion does not stop.
22 years ago, Juan Pablo Escobar relocated in Argentina. His father died in December of 1993, in a frame set up by the police and was aired live on Colombian television. He arrived with his mother and sister and the first neighborhood they stayed at was Recoleta at a hotel. Later, after overcoming an accusation of money laundering that the family faced.
· What will you tell us about in this book?
· I talk about the international corruption that allowed my father to go to the extremes. I do not exempt him from holding responsibility, but I simply demonstrate the other side of the coin. I explain how thanks to my father’s connections that held an absolute high power status, and could accumulate significant amount of money as well as defying the democracy of Colombia and other states. These stories were hidden and never were revealed. It’s a byproduct of an eight-month investigation in Colombia talking to his colleagues and bandits. That way I could obtain great information and reconstruct that past. This book also talks about other topics, like human relationships and the ability to reconcile, for example myself and Aaron seal. Aaron seal, son of (informer) Barry Seal, and other protagonist like paramilitary chief. I wanted to give a voice to the enemies of my father, because with that I obtained complete 360 degree of my father’s history.
The story of Barry Seal unfolds in beginning of Juan Pablo Escobar book. An ex-pilot from the United States of America, capable of anything, held ties with Pablo Escobar and abandon his good side for money. At the end the DEA captured him and converted him into a spy. He obtained the pictures of Medellín Cartel and the Nicaragua government holding ties with one another. When Escobar found out about the betrayal, he order his assassination.
· You tell us your fathers last 72 hours of his life. It’s curious that being such a powerful man he allowed himself to be captured to save his family. How do you define that act?
· That act was a major act of love from my father in his entire life. He gave his life to save the lives of his wife and two kids. He understood that the only chance to live and escape from the violence that he generated as well was to allow himself to be found. The reason my father never talked on the phone because that was the same as dying, yet he called seven times just to know how we were doing, when the search squad from the government grew closer in capturing him. We were hostages to the Colombian state. Pablo Escobar knew if he did not appear dead, the dead ones would be us. Despite the Americans and Colombian security forces claiming to have killed him, my father committed suicide. That's what forensics told me, who couldn’t write it in his autopsy because of police threats.

Me da la sensación de que los jóvenes de hoy están orgullosos de ser inteligentes y curiosos, de diseñar cosas nuevas y de abordar grandes problemas de maneras inesperadas. Creo que Estados Unidos es un país nerdier que cuando era niño, ¡ y eso es algo bueno!

Robots Asesinos: Expertos alertan la “tercera revolución en la guerra”
Más de 100 líderes de expertos robóticos urgen que las Naciones Unidas tomen acción para prevenir el desarrollo de “robots asesinos.
En una carta para la organización, inteligencia artificial (IA) lideres, incluyendo el billonario Elon Musk, alerta "una tercera revolucion en la guerra".
La carta dice "autonomo mortal" tecnologia es una "caja de Pandora", anadio que "el tiempo es de la escencia."
Los 116 expertos estan llamando para la expulsion de la (IA) en manejando las armas.
"Una vez que este desarollado, permitiran la pelea del conflicto armado a un nivel mas grande que nunca, y a tiempo mas rapido que los humanos puedan comprender," dice la carta.
"Estos pueden ser armas de terror, armas que despotan y terroristas usan contra poblaciones inocentes, y armas que pueden hackear en maneras indeseables," aggrega la carta.
Hay un tono de urgencia del mensaje de los lideres, que alertan "no tenemos mucho tiempo para actuar".
"Una vez que la caja de Pandora sea abrierta, sera dificil cerala."
Expertos estan llamando lo que ellos describen como "moralmente incorrecto" tecnologia tambien sera anadio a la lista de armas suspendidas de bajo de Convencion de las Naciones Unidas sobre Ciertas Armas Convencionales (CAC).
Junto con Telsa el co-fundador y jefe ejecutivo Sr. Musk, los lideres de la tecnologia incluyen a Mustafa Suleyman, co-fundador de Google's DeepMind.
Un groupo de NU focando en aramas autonomo estaba programado para reunirse el Lunes, pero la renuion se ha aplazdo hasta noviembre, segun el sitio de web del grupo.
Una posible prohibicion contra el desarrollo de el "robot asesino" tecnologia se ha discutido previamente en el comite de las NU.
En 2015, mas de mil expertos en tecnologia, cientificos y investigadores escribieron una carta alertando los peligros del armamento autonomo.
Entre los signatarios de la carta 2015 estaban el cientifico Stephen Hawking y el Sr. Musk.

1. I am enrolled in Spanish 3310.
2. The course description of this course is Spanish Composition and Grammar is designed to guide students through the writing process by providing extensive practice of grammar topics learned at previous levels. Students will engage in the intensive review of contextualized grammar including the use of colloquialisms, and idioms. Fundamental writing techniques, stylistic analysis, and proofreading strategies will be introduced.
3. The class meets every Monday and Wednesdays at 11:00AM in Hall Patterson.
4. The class was organized thematically. Each time we would come to class we would have different grammar exercises to work with. The worksheets would coincide with the progress we were making with our papers.
5. I had to write one essay this semester; the essay contained six steps.
6. I did write comments in Wiki in class when we had to turn in assignments during class.
7. I wrote a total of 4 blogs this semester. We were required to write the blogs each month after finishing our lessons in class. The blogs were centered around the grammar lesson plans we had discussed in class, and also about what worksheets we did in class to practice new grammar.
8. Yes, the final project was about formulating an expository essay about a story were assigned at the beginning of the semester. The expository essay had five steps. In the ending, a portfolio was a part of the final assignment displaying all the work that was done throughout the semester.
9. I do have samples of my essays, and they are corrected. I resubmitted a couple of them.
10. I have two versions that I did not correct.
11. For the final essay, I took a lot of time trying to find resources for my paper, but it was very tedious and I had to take breaks from the assignment to regain energy to finish the final product.
12. My future goals for Spanish are to be a social worker, and help others in my agency with their clients who speak Spanish, and need someone to translate for them.
