very funny to me how one of the simpler explanations for paul and care in petscop is that paul is transgender, but people will make up really funky complex explanations instead of that

I think Petscop is really cool because it doesn’t have an explanation. Or at least, not one that we’ll ever be given in full likelihood. After all, wouldn’t doing so defeat the purpose of the series itself?

At the end of the day, we are spectators to something that does not concern us. The only people Petscop is concerned with are those who receive the disk: the people who Rainer desperately needs—or needed—to contact. These are the people who know the family, can solve puzzles based on their family knowledge, and who could possibly save others from enduring the tragedies that befell Michael and Care.

For Tony to explain any of it to us in detail would be counter to the narrative of the series. Even if Paul wanted to explain the reasoning behind his decisions in the videos, he can’t. The family doesn’t want him to, and go so far as to censor vital clues that would help solve this immense puzzle.

It’s important to remember that Petscop is an unfiction series, not an ARG. Throughout its original run, the community had zero bearing on the events of the story, and nothing was ever confirmed aside from a few tiny details Tony wanted to clarify (such as his regret surrounding the Candace Newmaker reference.)

ARGs have clues. They demand viewer involvement to uncover the full narrative. Coming hot off the heels of game a series like FNaF, which DID have ARG elements, led viewers of Petscop to think this puzzle had a solution.

In truth, everything was already set in stone. After all, some things you can’t rewrite.

I’ve watched through the entirety of Petscop so many times that I’ve lost count. But in my frustration over failing to solve it, I found beauty in its mystery. Is it an analogy for being trans? For child abuse and indoctrination? For gaslighting? For DID, and the complex trauma that caused it? For separating yourself from a family that could only do you harm? For the devastating power of delusion in the mind of a caretaker? Hell, was Paul even meant to find the disk to begin with?

We don’t know the answers to any of these questions, and that’s okay. If Petscop resonated with you on any of those fronts, or even some that I haven’t considered myself, then I think that’s a good thing.

As far as I’m concerned, unless I have a sudden epiphany, the answer doesn’t matter. I’ll just try to take any lesson from it that I can.

i really strongly dislike when arg fans specifically horror arg fans say that one interpretation is the only valid interpretation. like its perfectly acceptable to view petscop as a trans story but its not the ONLY VALID INTERPRETATION just bc its yours. stop being weird and mean to other fans bc they dont subscribe to your headcanons or interpretations full stop

I keep seeing people argue about Petscop theories like it's some sort of puzzle to be solved. And I think that's quite the wrong way to look at it.

I'm not saying it's wrong to theorize or analyze Petscop (I do have my own interpretation and theories as to what happens in Petscop), but acting entitled as if your theories actually "solved" Petscop is just silly.

You can believe in whatever theories you want but what I'm saying is that treat your theories like it's an interpretation of Petscop and not an answer.

Petscop isn't meant to be solved, it is meant to be experienced. This is a view that even the creator of Petscop promotes (which should matter to people who really wanted the author's intent to everything). Not one "theory" can actually "solve" Petscop when Petscop wasn't even designed as some sort of puzzle to be solved.

Have fun analyzing Petscop but don't be lame.

gonna ramble a little so sorry this is off topic. it's very weird how people can take a game that is very open to being abstract and having many theories by multiple people and then take one theory of the game being a trans allegory and claiming that anyone who doesn't agree is transphobic. I am not against the theory and when discussing with someone they just automatically assumed I was when all I was really asking was that we be open to the many possibilities that the game holds as it is unconfirmed that anything is true. this is about petscop. the game can be about being trans, the game can be taken literally and be about multiple dimensions, I do not think anyone can be wrong. when I was going through petscop I did not take in the theory of it being trans and I think I still believe it being about a dimension between the game and the real life world as the creator as done similar things with the newer game 3d worker island. I can understand why people like the trans theory though and I think it's pretty cool as a trans person but I do not find it right to insult other people and assume bad intentions because they thought of a different idea. you do not need to accept other theories but just saying they are transphobic right out even though nothing has been confirmed is just weird. and again there's nothing wrong with any theory! I think that is truly what makes petscop amazing is how abstract it is and how anyone can come up with their own ideas and share it with the community and I think that's what the creator wanted.
