Fanart for "Dance in the Dusk" by @sareyen on AO3! In This AU, Shen Yuan transmigrated into Wu Yanzi and became Shen Jiu's Shizun. Although Shen Yuan doesn't know, he has permanently embedded himself into Shen Jiu's heart, whether Shen Jiu wishes to admit or not. This is how I imagine WYZ!SY and Shen Jiu shared their little makeshift shelter! Shen Jiu slept with his head resting against his master’s shoulder, dark lashes fluttering against his pale skin, lips slightly parted in relaxed, even breaths. His hands were cupped in his lap, still sitting in the lotus position because his long limbs couldn’t fit inside the carriage any other way. With the warm orange light of a new day beginning to drift through the wooden panels, casting lines of gold on Shen Jiu’s skin, Shen Yuan smiled properly.

They would usually be departing around this time, trying to leave at daybreak to make the most of the sunlight when on the road, but Shen Yuan was not inclined to wake his disciple up when he looked so peaceful. Peace wasn’t a thing they could take for granted, not anymore, so in a moment like this, Shen Yuan would do his utmost to protect it.

“It would be nice if you could sleep this peacefully for many more years,” Shen Yuan mused to himself, Shen Jiu’s nose crinkling slightly, turning his face further into Shen Yuan’s body, cool to the touch like stone in the summer haze. (Chapter 11) I honestly love the Scumcum Shizun and Disciple pair more than the canon BingQiu lol. Shen Jiu's stubborn spikiness and Shen Yuan's gentle and protective nature go so well together!
