Does Liu Yuning write the lyrics and/or music for all the songs he does for cdramas? Because I have yet to hear one that does not slap.

Omg I almost spit out my drink when Liu Yuning’s A Journey to Love theme had its needle drop moment in Dream within a Dream for Nan Heng’s assassination plan of himself—this drama has some truly top tier (but very affectionate) genre satire 🤣

THE FIRST FROST 难哄 · 2025 Episode 18: [On My Way to You. / Wait for Me.]
If it were you, what kind of store would you open? Me? I… I want to open a small shop. This place's not large, already. I'm talking about the kind where you can stay as long as you want and where you can relieve your stress. I want it to be a place where students can come to have noodles and read books after school. Where people can come in for some food after work. I'd also play my favorite music for them. At that time, customers here can work while eating noodles, without the feeling of overtime.

I love it when I'm watching a cdrama and a character gets struck by a regular-ass arrow and flies like 10 feet straight backward.

I wonder if that's a side effect of the plot. Since Nan Heng is the black bellied hero archetype, just like how he's bound to save the heroine, maybe he's programmed to forever be misunderstood as a villain. Ergo, regardless of his heroic acheivements, his actions can only be seen with suspicion and doubt. The other characters refuse to see the goodness in him bc they are bound by the plot to be prejudiced against him. So, in a way, Nan Heng is paralysed by the script to always play the "bad guy" even if that's not who he is fundamentally.
It seems that the charcaters irl are different from how they appear on paper. It's the case with the sister from what we have seen of her thus far. She seems like a smart/pragmatic person, adamantly refusing to marry, or use the crown prince to climb the social ladder. I hardly think such a person would want to climb onto her brother in laws bed when she's given no indication that she even likes him so far. I guess the question is, how much agency do they have to act out on their own and not follow the script? We have already had certain deviances with the fiance and Nan Heng. So that gives me hope that apart from following the major plot points, there still a lot of wiggle room to change character trajectory.

Li Shiliu's costume has been brilliantly designed, whether it's the fabric, silhouette, colour palette, the mask hiding most of his face, the tasselled hat which further obscures it, down to the red face paint covering his mole. However, no matter how good the disguise is in the end it's a self-portrait - it's in the colours he usually prefers to wear, it's actually a light armour because that's what he normally puts on when going to battles, and most importantly, his armoured mechanical arm, which truly reveals his heart.

It's equipped with weapons but primarily it serves as a shield for his left arm - it's where his own father and best friend hurt him when he was a child, when people who should have loved him and trusted him failed him, the first time he felt the pain of betrayal.

And it consistently remains the part of his body that bears the biggest brunt of fighting. It is that arm that gets injured the most, not his sword arm, but the arm he has used to protect himself and others, which perfectly conveys and encapsulates who he truly is - a dark protector.

Perfect example of this is the flashback where he was about to strike the SML after being attacked by him yet he stills holds his punch only to get injured, hit into the very same arm.
