Covid is killing over 1000 Americans each week. Covid is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. Covid is still spreading and mutating. Only 16% of Americans have gotten their boosters in a "vaccine only" strategy to fight the disease (that doesn't work because vaccinated people can and do catch and spread covid). Covid is still a very real threat to you and those you love. Stop talking about it in the past tense. Stop living a lie. It's not 2019. You'll never live in a "post covid" world. Our wishes for "normal" have destroyed any chance of a true end to the pandemic unless we act. Mask up and stop the spread if you really want to past-tense covid.

One time I tried to find a therapist through an app and there were a whole bunch of issues with that, not the least of which was that they didn’t think I qualified for a full therapist and set me up with a “coach,” which I learned in the session meant the person had no qualifications but only could offer a listening ear. Fine, but not what I was looking for.

I attended the session because I was desperate for help and figured it was better than nothing, and then this coach told me that my generalized anxiety disorder was caused by the fact that I sit cross-legged on the couch and don’t put my feet firmly on ground when I’m sitting.

Anyway, now instead of therapy I just pretend everything’s fine.

Earlier this week I described my career as an ouroboros of bullshit. What’s sad is that in the US that doesn’t even really narrow it down at all. I could be doing anything, and my heart would never be in it.

There is some very very bad transphobia in England right now and as a trans person I’m quite scared and anxious about my safety, I was wondering if you could give me some good vibes or something?

I wish I could do more, but this is one of the many problems humans have to solve for themselves. That's not a bad thing, though. I know you all can do it, and do much better job than I can. It will take time, and lot of hard work, but I believe in all of you.

In the meantime, do everything you can to protect yourself, both physically and mentally. Surround yourself with supportive people that you trust. Find all the love and joy in life that you can, especially in the little things.

But in the big things, too. Like whales. They always cheer me up.

something I, a certified straight cis old ™️, have found is that the queer romances in modern media are much more satisfying than things I’ve seen before.

for one thing, the popular romances of my formative years were relatively forgettable and formulaic, and when they weren’t explicitly formulaic, they were still leaning heavily on gender tropes and stereotypes. it made it all so.. blah. yes, satisfying for the young me to finally see Daria have her first kiss in the car with Tom (oh sorry, spoiler alert lol), but even that show, about this girl who’s literally #notliketheothergirls, STILL creates an environment in their story where two very clearly-above-average teenaged girls compete for the affection of an extremely average dude.

there’s something about how I can see much more of myself in these silly fantasy characters who are, truthfully, nothing like me. something about that who they are and how they love that makes them much more real.

I thought I didn’t like romance stories, I guess I just appreciate that queer love stories are told with pure emotion and they don’t feel lazy or whatever it is. they’re not leaning on anything here. it’s delicious.
