it’s difficult to be a dom with anarchist leanings.
my sub will be like “i have to tell you something… i broke a rule. i’ll accept whatever punishment you see fit.” and i’m like. rise up comrade you have nothing to lose but your padded restraints. no doms no masters. oh you want me to spank you. yeah i can do that.

what we lose when we reject porn
let me paraphrase an exchange that you’ve almost certainly seen play out many times by now:
“We can’t let the platforms we use bow to the pressure to ban porn, because conservatives consider queer existence itself to be inherently pornographic. They’ll use it as an excuse to ban all queer content.”
“That’s true, but don’t forget: porn is art, and art has a right to exist even if it is unwholesome smut.”
i agree completely with both of these points, for the record. they’re not mutually exclusive, and they are both relevant, persuasive reasons to support porn. they’re the only reasons you need, honestly. these points alone suffice for a robust defense of pornography!
i want to talk about something else, though.
i want to tell you what gets me about all this.
every time we create and enforce restrictions on pornography, we reify the idea of “pornography” as a meaningful and obligatory category. we are forced to say, for any given work of art, whether it is or isn’t pornography. if it is, we restrict it: we hide it away, we place odious limitations on where it can be seen and sold, and we never, ever talk about it in polite company.
but what about art that doesn’t fit neatly into one of these two boxes?
well, the answer is that, for the most part... it doesn’t get made! it’s just too risky. the benefits of making art in the public sphere are too huge to risk incorporating content or themes that might get your art labeled pornographic. and if you’ve decided from the get-go that you are making adult content, then there’s less than no incentive to waste your time and energy creating art that doesn’t fit cleanly into the box of “pornography”, because your opportunities to reach people outside of that box are so limited.
this sucks ass!!!
eroticism by and for itself is great. but art can be anything. art can be erotic among other things. imagine if you were only allowed to eat frosting straight out of the packet. imagine if you never got to taste a cake, because there’s massive financial disincentives to combine bread and frosting into one foodstuff!
anyone who’s into romance can tell you exactly how cathartic a real, explicit sex scene can be in a story, even when that story is not necessarily about sex. indeed, romance is just about the only genre that gets away with this forbidden combination at scale. but only to a limited extent, in limited contexts, and not without its own share of heavy policing from sales platforms.
sex and sexuality are unavoidable parts of the human experience. horniness is one of the primary colors in the spectrum of human emotions. to restrict the use of sex as a storytelling tool is to make artists forever paint with a limited palette. sure, there is lots of great, sexless art out there. for that matter, there’s tons of full-on porn that is likewise great art. but there is SUCH a huge space of possibility in between these two extremes.
and we can’t have it!
because pornography exists as a category in all of our minds, and because we are compelled to reify that category at monetary gunpoint by the jesus freaks upstairs, art must only ever at most orbit the pornographic: if it touches the event horizon, there is no going back.
we don’t just need to fight back against the censorship of pornography. we need to fight aggressively to normalize the existence of pornography. we need to make pornography mundane.
finally: it goes without saying, but there are, in fact, people who are making the kind of art i’m talking about. including me! that’s one of the great things about the internet: it democratized art for a lot of people in a lot of ways. for all its faults, the internet has enabled a golden age of horny queer art that’s allowed to be anything it wants. that’s why many of us are so distraught by the recent waves of censorship at steam and itch.io. if you’ve read this far, please take a moment to consider giving the payment processors responsible a phone call to let them know how you feel about it.

Remember that that character CAN BE bigender. You can make them. Male and female are not exclusive categories! Genders can work fluidly. You can make that character different

image description: ten slides with a light blue background, rainbows, clouds and stars. text reads:
a note on "going nonverbal"
nonverbal refers to a permanent state of not talking. it means months, years, decades of no talking.
not being able to talk for a few minutes to hours at a time is not nonverbal. i don't want anyone to feel dismissed by saying this. not being able to talk is distressing. it is frustrating and scary. if not being able to talk for short periods is distressing, imagine how nonverbal people feel 24/7.
to quote one of my favorite movies "you keep using that word. i do not think it means what you think it means," the princess bride (1987).
when nonverbal people try to talk about their experiences, it is flooded with people talking about 'going nonverbal'. our voices get drowned out in our own community. it feels incredibly isolating and makes it really hard for us to be listened to or even find others who are nonverbal.
also, we have been saying this for YEARS. but every time we bring it up, y'all act like this is a new concept. that just tells me you have not meaningfully interacted with the nonverbal community, or the MSN/HSN community. it is not new, y'all just don't listen.
what to say instead of "going nonverbal". speech loss / losing speech / speech loss episode. vocal rest. verbal shutdown / vocal shutdown. words are offline. verbal loss. PS - vocal rest is GREAT if you don't want to mention why you can't speak, or have to mask. musicians say they are on vocal rest all the time to protect their voice before performing.
"But Chrome! that doesn't sound as serious as "going nonverbal!" people won't take you seriously either way, sorry. i have had periods of my life where i can talk sometimes and periods where i can't ever. they aren't going to take you seriously if you use our language because they don't take you seriously at all. because of the ableism.
"my therapist / SLP / doctor says 'going nonverbal, though -" that doesn't mean it's ok. professionals don't always listen to the people they are attempting to serve. they should, but they don't. because of the ableism. and racism, sexism, etc.
the autism community already has a problem with driving out higher support needs autistics, nonverbal autistics and especially autistic people of Color. you can be part of the solution. you can support marginalized autistic voices and make your community safer and more inclusive. but first you have to listen.
thank you for listening. i hope something good happens to you today!
with love, chrome.

the way some of yall react to people headcanoning canonically female characters as trans men makes me nervous that you think people transitioning to male/masc is a loss in real life. its the loss of a girl and the erasure of womanhood and the absence of anything good

I think the weirdest form of fatphobia I keep bumping into is writers suddenly becoming deeply concerned with physical realism when a fat character is involved even in contexts where everybody's physical capabilities are explicitly bullshit. "They're fat, it wouldn't make sense for them to have super speed" and it would make sense for the 98-pound twink to be able to run at Mach Fuck? That's something skinny people can do in real life, is it?

My favorite small detail in the Murderbot Diaries is how many of the shitty corporations have names that sound like two names mashed together—GrayCris, BreharWallHan, Barish-Estranza, etc—because to me it just screams “corporate merger.” It’s something that real companies do with their names when they’re monopolizing, where two companies of comparable sizes just mash their two brands together to make a horrible Frankenbrand. Like how it’s Warner Bros-Discovery now, or the names of publishing companies like Penguin Random House and HarperCollins. It’s just some subtle worldbuilding that signifies how the dystopian capitalist hellscape of the Corporation Rim formed through the very mundane acts of corporate inbreeding that we see all the time

jetpens just started stocking a product that will be an ergonomic game-changer for a lot of folks!
Tumblr media
this is the kutsuwa punyu spiral pencil grip. unlike most pencil grips that are solid tubes and have a fixed maximum diameter they can wrap around,
Tumblr media
the punyu is a spiral! it wraps like spaghetti.
Tumblr media
this means that, unlike almost every other grip on the market, this grip can be added to almost every pen or pencil! and that includes fountain pens and gel pens. you can see it here being used on a pilot metropolitan fountain pen and a sakura gelly roll gel pen.
(not an affiliate link, not sponsored, you can buy from wherever you want if interested, jetpens has a lot of specs of their products that I appreciate)
a jetpens review even mentions someone using these on the lamy safari line of fountain pens. the ones with a really sharp triangle grip. these grips seem really really versatile, especially if you are about to sit down and take notes for hours on end!
if you do use this with a fountain pen, I recommend making sure the fountain pen is not prone to hard starts or drying out, has a good flow (whether that flow is from a wet nib or a wet feed or both), and/or that you use a relatively wet ink. because the goal is to have the fountain pen continue to write even if you put it down for a few minutes, so you do not have to keep removing the grip, capping the pen, uncapping the pen, or reapplying the spiral grip!
over the years some folks have asked me if I know of anything like this, and well, now we both do! if you get this let me know what kinds of pens and pencils you use it with and how well it works! this is a really exciting pencil grip!

How many different ttrpgs have you played ?
We are counting them all. To answer what has been asked on the Anim ttrpg book club where this poll originated, yes solo and one page games count of course.
The Stipulation : you have to have sat down for at least one session of gameplay
For the sake of this poll, different editions count as different games, if they are major rules or design changes between the different editions.
