First post in ages. You'd think now we're housebound, I'd have more time to draw, but with a three year old kid, it's not so easy! This is Pazu from Laputa Castle in the Sky by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. This is one of my favourite movies ever, and this was one of my favourite scenes. This was drawn really quickly and is largely just a trace and colour of a dvd still. First post in ages! Ryu from Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie! Loved this moment. Was a sweet little coda at the end of the movie. A few things have been keeping me away from the tablet over the past few weeks. I mainly blame Final Fantasy XI tho 😂 after my inktober drawings, I resubscribed! Anyway... This whole pic was done in Photoshop. I needed a bit of help with the hands, so I brought in a model from Clip Studio Paint to help with that. Ryu from Street Fighter II I loved the game and Ryu was always my no.1. The animated movie that released in '94 was massive for me. I used a still from the movie as my template for mapping out features etc. Then inked and coloured in Photoshop. Again, I'm using the slight blur effect to soften the image at the end. I was completely blown away when I visited the new Forbidden Planet store in Glasgow for the first time today! When you walk in, you're met with a giant graphic of Superman, as drawn by Frank Quitely from All Star Superman - arguably, the greatest Superman story ever told. Quitely's work is everywhere in the store. As well as the giant Superman, his artwork also fills the wall of the stairwell, and he's even contributed the chalk outline to the Batman tribute area. I felt really inspired to draw something inspired by his work tonight, but how do you do justice to it? I don't really think you can. Instead I opted to ink and colour some of his pencil work. I found the pencils for this pic online. Inked and coloured it in Photoshop. My shadows/highlights are (once again) all over the place, but I had fun doing it! Frank Quitely's exhibition in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in 2017 was a massive factor in getting me back into comics. Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell! Drawing Spike Spiegel got me thinking about the line weight of my inks and how varying them could have some nice outcomes. I wanted to try a similar drawing to practice some more. Also in the Spike drawing, I was happy with how the shadows turned out, so I wanted another go at that too.
