Sometimes we look at bizarre catwalk fashions like…
“What was that designer ON?? Nobody would ever wear that!!!”
…But sometimes I stop and think about what fashion designers have to work with.
I mean, as animals, we did not develop a very design-able shape.

(^THIS is a designable shape.)
We developed these weird, organic shapes and then decided we wanted to put things ON our shape. And that was hard.

(^This is NOT a designable shape, especially since the arms don’t just stay up like that and the whole thing’s always moving…)
I mean, think how hard it was to come up a way to put on clothing that would stay on your body while you’re hunting and gathering and keep you warm, made mostly out of the skins of OTHER animals, which ALSO do not grow in nice, flat, straight-edged pieces:
(^Working out THIS would have been very difficult. We’ve got ideas now to work with, stuff like “neck hole” and “arm holes” and “sleeves” and “loincloth”… but they had to figure that shit out from SCRATCH.)
And then different groups of people in different areas decided that certain things in clothing were “normal”. People in Polynesia were like, “Hey, clothing can be grass!”

And people in Europe were like, “Hey! Clothing can be pointy shoes!”

And people in east Africa were like, “Hey! Clothing can be big flat collars!”
And now people in western culture are like, “Hey! clothing can be double-breasted suit and tie!”

And avant-garde designer are like, “Hey! clothing can be… whatever the fuck this thing is!”

And honestly, when it comes down to it, that’s not any weirder than the stereotyped shape of the double-breasted suit and tie, or the pointy shoes you trip over, or the skirt made of grass. Human bodies are weird, and the things we wear on our bodies are also weird. It all just comes down to what you’re used to seeing.

the thing i love about aang and sokka's friendship is that they're both very smart and clever and capable individually but you put them alone in a room together and they immediately become the definition of the "my last two brain cells" meme

Regarding the recent episodes, particularly Volleyball. Was Pink Diamond an abuser? Yes. Definitely. She did a lot of unforgivable shit. I do not blame people for being mad at her. Hell, Steven literally hides her portrait in Lion's mane because he doesn't like to be reminded of her.
But the key word is 'was'. The episode showed that both Pearls saw two sides of Pink. One saw the destructive brat. The other saw the reckless and repressed gem who tries to do good [and still fails a lot, imo].
Basically, When she was with Pink Pearl, Pink was like the other Diamonds. Entitled. Bratty. Typical tyrant wannabe. But was constantly ignored, locked up even. Then she snapped. The anger and rage of being ignored manifesting in a destructive force that cracks Pink Pearl's eye.
Then, here's what sets her apart from the other diamonds, and, in my opinion, makes her the better one out of the four: She felt bad for what she did and began bottling up her emotions. And tried to change for the better in whatever way she knew how.
But she still fell short. She was on her own, with no one but the Diamonds who are far from supportive and gems programmed to do her bidding. She wanted to be better but she was ignorant. So she fucked up. A lot. And she's hated for it, understandably. The consequences of her actions were dire. It shouldn't be forgiven just because she meant well/didn't know any better. She was basically terrible at being good. And she knew it. This is the Pink our Pearl saw.
The whole episode was about both pearls not seeing the whole picture, which is ironically what a lot of fans are going through. Pink Pearl saw the destructive, abusive side of Pink Diamond and tried to defend it. Our Pearl saw her changing for the better and tried to defend the many horrible decisions she made along the way.
Pink is a representation of abusers who were also victims of abuse themselves. She represents bad people that tried to be good but... stumbled, fell, and hurt many along the way. Pink represents change and growth. And that it is not gonna be all smooth sailing, especially if you came from a terrible place. That redemption is far from easy. That it can't earn forgiveness nor stop the pain.
So many were hurt and are still hurting from the things Pink did. She definitely does not deserve forgiveness. But you do not need to forgive a person to acknowledge that they have changed. You do not need to stop hurting in order to move forward. An abuser changing for the better does not mean forgiveness. It just means they stop causing anymore problems. It just means that they're no longer gonna hold you back.
