Something irks me about some of the artists doing transfem bodies on here. Not because they arent being depicted as perfectly hyperfemme, and not because those bodies are often larger, have bigger shoulders and narrower hips etc.
It irks me because now that ive been seeing this for over a year now it looks like whoever these artists are and where they get their references from, are really only using girls very early in their transition.
Like, at first it was exciting to see this alleged body diversity but i do feel it is also lacking the reality of what 5-10 years of hormone therapy does to your fat distribution. Mostly, i feel like I am just looking at early breast growth and spiro belly bloat.
Im not downplaying the importance of this work of course, but it is lacking an important component of trans body diversity. Where we not only have bodies of many proportions, but also the ways those bodies change over time.
I guess i feel like it is becoming voyeuristic of a body that has begun change in contrast to displaying a variety of bodies at different points in their change.
I am probably not articulating this well, but i hope it makes sense. I dont mean to discoursge this work at all. Someone needs to do it!

scanned the full collection* of gouache sketches from a 175 mile backpacking trip I took last spring
*minus the burger peak painting, which I gave to a UTV driver named Tanner as thanks for a hitchhike, plus two bonus paintings I did on a roadtrip shortly after
