sideblog to keep all my stuff in one spot, still learning so I'll probably be wrong at times. at some point I might actually use my inkle loom for inkle weaving

Third tablet woven band with colors picked out by my friend that I made them as a gift. Colors remind me of Mardi gras. Ended up finishing at about the right time to submit to the state fair and got third place! (out of three entries for tablet weaving but I digress, at least I know my competition for next year)
I think this was my first non reversible pattern and always found the reverse very interesting. You can also see where I had initially wanted to do a different pattern but decided on a full diamond pattern. Kinda disliked how the weft threads would show up in the middle of the band in between the diamond pattern where the tablets would go in the opposite direction, would probably be less noticeable if the weft matched one of the warp colors.

The second tapestry that I made from my class, we had a lot more free reign for this one though it was highly recommended to be a simple design.. like a shape. I had decided on a circle which ended up being more of an oval in the end due to not accounting enough for shrinkage (pushing all the weft threads down at the end). Ironically the instructor had to give The Circle Talk™️ three times to help us better translate a circle to a grid.
At least for this simple design I wanted to just freeform it and not plan it out essentially pixel by pixel, though that will likely change when I start larger and more complicated designs in the future. I still feel like there's a lot of other techniques I want to research before really diving in (and also finishing my current projects)
#tapestry weaving#fiber crafts#saw a lot of good birds around the last couple of classes (classes held near a lake)#like a belted kingfisher and an actual bald eagle (apparently nests in the area every year)

Took a tapestry weaving class (once a week for approximately a month and a half). Here is my first of two made through the class, this one was more focused on learning technique (plain weave, rya knots, and rya loops) over making anything super cohesive. Still think this came out pretty nice color wise even with the clashing warp threads.
Also bonus, the reverse side. I got a lot of good comments on my consistent tension during the class which is probably because I started with a more difficult hobby of tablet weaving (or at least a steeper learning curve)
#wish i had a more neutral colored warp threads but its not too bad#tapestry weaving#fiber crafts#shout out to my friend for breaking a branch from his dying tree in his yard for me to use#just bought a fairly cheap and basic tapestry loom from michaels to continue doing this#we'll see if i like it but probably wont invest in a better one unless this one completely sucks

Not my work but I did attend a fiber festival workshop of an introduction of dyeing with mushrooms. All the skeins in the first picture were dyed with various mushrooms, or sometimes the same mushroom but with a different pH/mordant.
Really makes me curious since all that's really done is just throwing things in a pot of water and boiling it prior to adding the mordant and fabric, if you couldn't get better results actually extracting the compound that is the dye. I'd have to do a lot more research but I'd be surprised if the dye compounds are all water soluble.

Lesson in contrast, really wish I had chosen different colors for this band after the fact since the grey and light blue ended up too hard to differentiate.
Second tablet woven band I've made, and first using different material/size yarn for warp vs weft, which also gave it a different feel (more stiff?) than my first band which was all embroidery floss. Crochet 10 cotton warp, and embroidery floss weft

Plugging my very first tablet woven band (from almost two years ago now?). Definitely a learning experience, honestly need to make more of that width for some other projects in mind but I need to finish the band I currently have on the loom
