It often feels like mainstream acceptance of queer people, particularly trans and nonbinary people, is contingent on there being few of us. When I was a kid witnessing arguments about gay marriage, statistics about LGBTQ people were so often presented in such a way as to reassure everyone else that we are not dangerous because we are rare. "It's not going to cause societal collapse ... because such a small percentage of people are gay."

And conservative rhetoric against queer people, particularly trans people, which explicitly refers to us as a "social contagion," really underscores that any perceived "increase" in sexual or gender diversity will be seen as a threat. If queer people are permitted to exist, we must be aberrant and isolated. If we are normal and natural and commonly occurring, it is because something has gone terribly wrong.

So. Forgive me if I bristle at the well-meaning argument that "these trans athlete bans are ridiculous, they're only going to affect a few dozen people!" I understand where they're coming from. But I think trans people should be free and abundant.

>the words 'you' and 'john' are used interchangeably throughout homestuck so that's how i use them here.

Act 1

beginning of act 1

>it is Johns 13th birthday. 'you', john, examine your bedroom and then make the choice to retrieve your arms from your drawer

>the concept of a 'sylladex' is introduced as essentially an inventory used by john to store various items. you store or 'captchalogue' your arms in your sylladex. the items in your sylladex are displayed as cards stacked on top of each other, only the top card (the most recently added item) can be equipped. to equip a item further to the back of your stack you must equip all other items until your desired item has reached the top of your stack. if your sylladex exceeds a maximum of 4 items the last item will be consequentially pushed out of your sylladex and will land on the floor.

>you then captchalogue smoke pellets, as well as a hammer and some nails with the intention of hanging up a poster you had received for your birthday.

>you merge the cards 'nails' and 'hammer' in your sylladex, creating a card that includes both items. this opens a space back up in your inventory.

>you use this card to nail your poster to the wall. while looking at the wall you take notice of your calendar that marks both your birthday, and the release date of a game titled sburb.

>youre messaged by one of your friends and informed that your copy of sburb has likely arrived. you examine your mail box from the window excitedly.

>after being pestered by your friends online you eventually make the decision to check your mail. but you realize dad has already brought the mail inside. you confront him and after a messy battle you manage to distract him and escape with your mail as well as dads pda.

>you open your packages to reveal your long awaited copy of the game sburb. you and your friend rose are exited to begin to play and find out what its all about.

>two other packages of yours are still out of your reach as they are locked in your dads car

>you and rose begin your first game of sburb

>rose takes control of johns environment through sburb, almost as if they are playing the sims. she is able to add items to his room, and change the width and length of his house

>rose places multiple in game items including alchemy equipment. this equipment emits a large ball of light. this is referred to as a kernelsprite. a kernelsprite can absorb items around it, these items will affect the kernelsprites looks and behaviors.

>the kernelsprite accidentally absorbs johns destroyed Harley Quinn doll, taking on the appearance of a one armed and one eyed jester.

>all of a sudden a meteor is heading towards johns house.

>rose is extremely unhelpful in helping john avoid this meteor as her internet connection cuts in and out. this shitty connection causes her to drop items and struggle to help john move on to the next step of the game and avoid said meteor.

>eventually after a lot of struggle, rose is able to spawn a tree in johns environment that bears blue apples. john takes a bite of a blue apple, and him as well as his home are transported out of the way of the meteor just before it could strike. a crater is left where his house stood before.

okay because of the differing opinions on @calware's post i had to go and check for myself. after all, we've all heard info passed down the fanon grapevine over the years. so, here it is:

is dave strider right or left handed?

obviously, this being homestuck, character sprites flip like every half a second, so i'm trying to take that into account here. alright, let's plow through an entire comic's worth of dave panels.

in his very first appearance, dave uses a katana from his wall to slash through his name command left-handedly.

he proceeds to use his left hand for many actions he takes in his apartment, including typing.

he then uses his right hand to fistbump cal, open the attic, pick up a sword, and escape the puppet pile. his computer is also set up for his right hand.

so already we've got a lot of switching going on, as to be expected with homestuck. i'm going to just try and focus on "main" shots now and not minute sprite details, since those seem to switch constantly.

dave climbs the staircase after picking up the sword with his right hand. however, when beginning the strife with bro he switches it to his left.

during that fight his sprite (and dominant hand) flips many times. while he is laying on the floor beaten he texts john with his right. once he gets up, he resumes typing with his left. [EDIT: he pretty much always uses his left hand when texting; there are very few panels where this sprite is flipped.]

during the [s] enter, dave is famously seen drawing a sbahj panel with his mouse right-handedly. he does this again talking to tavros later. his computer setup seems pretty consistent in this way.

during [s] accelerate, dave flips his sword between hands multiple times both in sprite and hero mode.

then, for no apparent reason except for that he probably hates me and wants me to suffer, dave switches his main hand back and forth repeatedly for the entire rest of the comic.

he frequently carries his sword in his right hand, except for stray panels where, when actually using the sword, he favors his left (panels 5 and 8 above). however, this isn’t a case of him only carrying with his right and then using his left to actually wield— because as you can see in panel 9 above, he also uses it right-handedly.

he uses his left hand during the entire fight with jade and bec, but then, switches back to his right during cascade.

during meteorstuck he seems to use his right hand for most activities, including drawing and writing, except for the penis ouija scene, in which he uses his left.

he takes all his selfies with his right hand, then confronts jade with his left hand. his watch is also positioned on his left wrist, which is traditionally an indicator of right-handedness; and he holds his sword in his right again as he absconds.

during the dogfight he makes most of his attacks with his right hand, and switches to his left to parry bec. when he dies in game over, he's holding his sword in his left.

he's using his right hand in essentially all of the non-sprite shots in collide, except for this last big red one.

in all honesty, he seems to switch between either hand frequently enough that you could make an argument for almost anything. hooray, everyone's headcanons are valid!

though i will say that he definitely uses his right hand more frequently in panels. if you only count panels where he's actually using his sword, it's closer to an even split, but i'd still tentatively say that he favors right more often than not.

the widespread fanon concept that he canonically only uses his right hand while drawing and otherwise uses his left, is unfortunately mostly cheryypicked in terms on panels. but that's not to say it's necessarily wrong. there's too little consistency in the art to definitely call it false

considering he's been seen both writing and swordfighting with his left, you can headcanon whatever the fuck you want! (and let's be honest, he has leftie vibes).

i infodump about homestuck history and you pretend to listen

13th of april 2009 Andrew hussie releases the first few pages of the web comic Homestuck.People both commemorate it and celebrate it every year, commemoration of the day is typically ironic and satirical.

2010, After a whole year of viewers deciding the storyline of Homestuck, Andrew Hussie completely takes over, and the last reader request is taken.

2010,The most important and most recognizable part of the comic (act 5)begins. This is also when the Homestuck fandom begins to be considered “that” annoying fandom. this annoying fandom trope is also where the phrase “LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT HOMESTUCK” originates from, this line was typically used to imitate Homestuck fans in a satirical mocking way, poking fun about their constant need to talk about Homestuck and the cult like following it had.

2011,Often referred to as a fandom legend, a still anonymous girl is mentioned in a Tumblr post to have ‘allegedly’ attempted to dye her skin grey for a Homestuck cosplay at anime expo, this was done in a hotel bathtub. She did this By ‘allegedly’ using a mixture of water, vodka, and sharpies, filling the bathtub with it and climbing in. This becomes a very important defining moment in fandom history, with many celebrating its anniversary every year.

Also taking place at the 2011 anime expo, Homestuck fandom members film the infamous YouTube video of people passing around a bucket and spitting in it (in the middle of a family restaurant). They do this with the intention of referencing a popular headcanon of troll reproduction.

These two anime expo events solidify the horrible reputation Homestuck fans would hold to this day.

2012 the Kickstarter for a Homestuck adventure game is started, making 2.5 million dollars.

In 2013 Andrew Hussie momentarily stops updating Homestuck, this time is known as the gigapause

2014,dashcon takes place it becomes widely known as the worst convention in fandom history, as well as the closest thing to a homestuck convention to ever happen.Theres many pictures of homestuck cosplayers in the famous urine-soaked ball pit at dashcon
