“Take a screenshot” 😭😭
So you remember that final scene in The best of both worlds just before the dramatic cliffanger when we see Picard on the Borg Cube? So we later see the photo of it from the same angle in Star Trek: Picard (season 1), The Impossible Box.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That implies that either computer automatically saves transmissions from the main viewscreen and they can be acessed later and watched frame by frame or Riker went: "Mister Worf... Fire. But first, take a screenshot.".

I like writing the angst of killing off characters, but I don’t like actually doing it. This is why I end up with the recurring theme of characters believing that each other are dead.
“Authors love killing off characters!”

Ellipsus update makes me so happy!
I just started using it and one of my only major issues with it was the lack of any kind of password but now that’s fixed and I’m really happy having switched off of Google docs
My only other issue is I wish it had a mobile app… it works on my mobile browser just fine- but I have a tab problem and keep losing it 😅

Part of the fun of writing a first draft knowing your gonna scrap it as soon as you have a better idea is the ability to use words like “bamboozlement” in a completely serious context

I feel the post in my bones- and *totally* believe you-
Nah but I have an entire document in my notes app dedicated to using voice typing to figure out how words are spelled because even spell check doesn’t understand why I’m trying to say-
I promise I know English. I promise that I can spell simple words right on the first try. I don’t need to look up ‘different ways to say said’ 50 times I day.
I promise.

Me: writing a scene that’s very important to setting things up for my story
Me: realizing said scene has the unintended side effect of giving my mc more trauma and trust issues
Me: oh well, guess I have to find a way to write that in to everything else, should be fun!

Things done in real-life dialogue
(Found on Pinterest ages ago)
Laughing at their own jokes
Don't finish/say complete sentences
Interrupt a line of thought with a sudden new one
Say 'uh/uhm' between words when unsure
Accidentally blending words - may restart the sentence
Begin/end sentences with 'eh?' or 'you know?' etc, may be turned into an actual question for others to respond to
Repeat words such as 'like/literally/really/anyways/I think'
Repeat words or phrases when excited
Words fizzle out when they realise no one is listening
Repeat themselves when others don't understand them, or to get their point across
Non-verbal replies like gestures/expressions/noises (or lack of)

Writing character with he/they pronouns
I would like one of my characters to use he/they pronouns, but I’m not sure how to write it. I’ve seen it done a lot in fan fiction where the writer switches between which one they use, but I’m concerned that doing this is going to confuse my readers. I don’t want to commit to just he or they because neither quite feels right for the characters, I just don’t know how to deal with it with my writing style. This may just be an issue in my writing that I’m not making it clear enough who I’m referring to but I don’t know how to fix that either. How would you approach this? Any advice is hugely appreciated!

would love to know who the npc because that’s funny as hell. players have a sixth sense for this kinda stuff. —a CoS DM
I don’t know if he’s evil in the original storyline (at least to the degree he is in our campaign) because our dm has gone pretty far off book, but it’s Radahan (I have no idea if that’s how his name is spelled)

Creating a timeline for my WIP is so… interesting
It’s like trying to assemble a puzzle where half the pieces are blank and the other half are covered in barely coherent scribbles about betrayal and tragedy, but occasionally I’ll come across one that just says “gay” and I have no idea where it fits into all this but it is VERY important that it does… is this a story? Or just a mess of half formed feelings and a desire to understand the human race? I don’t know

Me: casually and kind of jokingly hating an npc bc he interrupted my character’s crash out and was also a little weird
Everyone else: “what did he ever do to you??”
Me: “he’s just evil ok??”
Them: not believing me bc “he’s just a lonely little guy”
The NPC: turns out to literally be the big bad for season two of the campaign
Me: I FING KNEW IT!!! I KNEW THAT GUY WAS SKETCHY AF!!

Museums are such an interesting experience
Like I’m wandering around this huge building full of super rare stuff reading small plaques with random pieces of information, most of which I will not retain for more than 2 minutes, but then I come across a fact that makes me stop and question everything I know and I have to go look up more information bc WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE MAGNETIC POLES CAN SWITCH??? And suddenly I’ve spent half an hour sitting on a bench researching geomagnetic reversals and I’m filled with a very subtle sense of impending doom but I don’t have any time to process what I just read before I’m wandering around a room full of very very shiny rocks of immense value. I don’t feel like any time has passed but at the same time I might have been here forever for all I know because everything is artificially lit and I don’t even know what time of day it is? I could wander around this place for all of time and probably still find new things… but my feet hurt and I’m really tired of being run into by screaming children. So I leave feeling slightly smarter, a little overwhelmed, a list of new research projects I will probably never get to, and a whole bunch of random facts that may or may not randomly materialize in my consciousness at inopportune moments to be awkwardly interjected into unrelated conversations

The number of time I’ve had to google “distance from the sun to the nearest star” for reference in my sci-fi WIP is embarrassing. I feel like I should remember this information by now…
For the record it’s Alpha Centauri and it’s a little more than 4 light years away

This situation is made worse by the fact that what I want to write is fluff but I don’t know *how* to write fluff and the closest I can get is incomplete hurt/comfort
Does anyone else have the thing where you’re like I have so many thoughts but none of them are coherent or even words??? Like I have a vibe and the crushing need to write but I couldn’t even translate it into something I can understand???
