the  buzz  running  through  him  feels  electric,     even  as  the  party  has  dwindled  to  a  soft  flicker.     his  bare  feet  slide  over  the  wood  floor,     green  eyes  half-lidded,     moving  in  lazy  time  with  the  music  still  humming  in  the  background.     it’s  been  a  long  while  since  he’s  had  this  much  fun,     and  he  knows  it’s  not  the  music  or  the  whiskey,     it’s  the  company.    before  he  can  catch  his  breath,     she’s  tugging  him  out  of  his  sway,  leading  him  with  grace  toward  the  back  door  and  into  the  warm  balm  of  the  rain-slick  night.     the  awning  shields  them  from  the  downpour,    but  the  misty  spray  still  kisses  his  lips,     clinging  to  his  skin  in  cool  drops.    rain  has  always  been  his  favorite.   surely,  he  was  made  for  sunshine,     but  rain,     it  reminds  him  of  home,     of  simpler  days,     and  most  of  all,     of  his  momma.     his  smile  lingers  as  he  glances  across  the  yard,     taking  in  the  garden,     the  furniture,     the  soft  glow  of  string  lights  twined  like  starlight  overhead.     the  whole  scene  feels  like  something  from  a  film,     perfect  without  even  trying.        “s’beautiful,”        he  murmurs,     voice  low  and  honey-warm,     his  gaze  sliding  to  hanna.     his  smile  deepens,     his  hand,     broad  and  warm,   giving  hers  a  squeeze.     he  can’t  help  but  admire  how  the  golden  light  wraps  around  her  face,  tracing  her  profile  like  it  was  made  to  be  seen  this  way.     his  free  hand  slips  to  her  hip,     tugging  her  closer  until  there’s  no  space  left  between  them.     leaning  down,     the  tip  of  his  nose  grazes  hers.     the  humidity  has  coaxed  his  hair  into  soft  curls,     the  strands  falling  like  a  curtain  around  them.        “you  sure  know  how  to  throw  a  party,    miss  hanna,”        he  whispers  against  her  lips,     the  faintest  smile  curling  the  corner  of  his  mouth.        “thank  you  for  invitin’  me.”

another  house  party  dwindles  down,  leaving  only  those  of  more  intimate  origins  than  acquaintances.  she  loves  this  place,  old  and  creaking  with  life  as  it  is,  worn  down  at  the  edges  and  bursting  with  flaws.  the  place  all  four  of  them  had  turned  into  a  home  they  never  had  ─  warm,  safe,  crowded  with  trinkets  and  the  mesh  of  personalities.  but  hanna's  favourite  part  about  the  whole  house  was  the  tin  awning  just  outside  the  back  door.  she'd  ducked  out  of  the  fading  commotion  at  the  sight  of  rain,  braving  the  chill  without  thought  just  to  listen  to  the  pattering  melody.  she  dragged  sammy  with  her,  honey-sweet  grin  wide  and  carefree  and  unwilling  to  take  no  for  an  answer  on  this  occasion.  ❛ see  how  pretty  it  all  looks  and  sounds.  ain't  it  so  peaceful?  ❜ she  hasn't  dropped  his  hand,  doesn't  want  to,  but  her  free  one  lifts,  faded  pink  nails  pointed  to  the  yard.  the  cut  garden  planted  for  the  bees,  citrus  trees,  and  wild  herbs,  mismatched  furniture,  and  lights  all  strung  up,  glowed  despite  the  downpour.  ❛ even  better  cause  i  got  to  steal  ya  away  for  it.  ❜

she’s  still  not  entirely  sure  how  she’d  managed  to  get  him  to  agree  to  this.     sure,     she’d  invited  herself  over,     but  most  people  would’ve  said  no.     she  would  have,     anyway.    a  home  is  a  sacred  space,     a  kind  of  sanctuary.     it’s  where  people  keep  their  secrets  tucked  away.     maybe  that’s  why  she’d  been  so  curious  to  come  to  his  place,     to  peel  back  another  layer  of  whatever  armor  he  seemed  to  wear.        “thanks,”        she  says  at  last,     the  corner  of  her  mouth  hitching  into  a  half-smile.        “not  douchey.     s'a  nice  place,”        she  corrects,    tone  teasing  but  warm.       “oh   —   brought  you  somethin’.”        she  stops  mid  step,     boots  scuffing  the  floor  as  she  digs  a  tattooed  hand  into  the  deep  pocket  of  her  jacket.     what  she  pulls  out  is  a  sandwich  bag  stuffed  with  a  green,     leafy  herb  rolled  into  a  neat  little  tube.     holding  it  out  to  him,     her  blue  eyes  lock  on  his.         “it’s  not  drugs.    well…     not  for  you.      catnip.”

it’s not so much of a surprise to find morgan standing on his doorstep given that she sort of invited herself over for a ‘tour’. having people over gives tommy an necessary anxiety, but he supposes that not letting them over is much more suspicious. “welcome to my humble abode,” he greets her, allowing her to pass the threshold. with a groan, he says, “that sounded douchey.” it’s not like he has company over a lot, so a proper greeting doesn’t come easily to him. “let’s just start in the living room,” he suggests, picking somewhere relatively safe so that he can get a feel of her real intentions.
