  ‘  missed me, huh ? then maybe you should come away with me more often.  ’  daisy murmurs, languidly brushing her digits over the base of his neck & sifting upwards to weave through his tufts of chestnut. there’s a painfully strong urge to lean forward, enclose the space between them with a kiss  —-  and this urge has been alive & well for YEARS now.  ‘  you’ve got a few more months left with me. are you gonna make ‘em count  ?  ’  each word, however playfully delivered, is drenched in the hope that maybe ( just maybe ) he’ll finally make her dreams come true. 

‘ maybe i should. ’ he mumbles back, slightly leaning into her touch. for some reason there’s an atmosphere of tension as reuben watches her with soft eyes. ‘ don’t remind me. ’ he smiles almost sadly - it’s mixed feelings for him. of course he’s happy that daisy has this big opportunity, she’s his best friend, but at the same time it hurts his heart to think about not being able to see her every day. how often would he see her at all ? ‘ i’ll try. i don’t know how i’ll function without you. ’ he plays it off as a joke, though his grip of her waist tightens slightly at the words.

   ‘  anywhere ? would you follow me into a cave full of clowns ?  ’  daisy taunts, lightly prodding his chest with one finger and draping her tanned arms around his shoulders.  ‘  then come run away with me,  ’  she hums warmly, tugging him along towards the privacy of the break room  — at least guests can’t interrupt them there. aside from a few newbies mulling around, it’s thankfully just the two of them.  ‘  what sort of fun were you thinking ?  ’  she asks, perching herself on the edge of the counter.

‘ maybe. i could always use you as a shield. ’ he grins playfully as he lets her guide him towards the break room. as she perches on the counter he moves closer, now standing between her legs almost. ‘ anything. if you wanna go swimming, we can go swimming. get some food after. i’ve missed you. ’ he replies, his fingers moving to gently play with the tips of her hair. he was speaking as if they’d spent MONTHS  apart, when in fact it could have only been a day or two - and even then he’d seen her around work and texted her 24/7. he just enjoyed having the girl to himself every now and then.
