Ariel McGrew – PSY 612
Professor McGrew is nice and has a funny, dry sense of humor, but unfortunately her teaching style is touch and go. She does make every live class engaging by having a group activity to complete in breakout rooms which we discuss altogether. She picks one person every class to facilitate the class discussions of the powerpoint questions for about a quarter of the class time. She herself mostly reads off the powerpoint slides which are made by the program and sounds kind of bored and rushed when reading through them. My biggest complaint would probably be her additional requirement for the final assignment at the end of the term of making a powerpoint presentation of 5-10 slides to go along with the final paper (which is 8-10 pages itself) to present it in the last class. The powerpoint is not included in the syllabus and other professors do not require it. Kind of annoying to do that extra work just for participation credit after already writing a 10 page paper. So just take these bits of info in consideration when taking her class.

Gina Coffee – PSY 626
Professor Coffee was amazing she was very patient, understanding, and went over the course content in class. Class load is moderate, 4 papers, with each paper being added the final paper.

Millicent Rose – PSY 669
Take 669 with Millicent Rose! Fabulous teacher. It’s true that she does go over a few minutes often, so I wouldn’t stack her with another class – but she’s so insightful, funny and just generally chill. Really wants to make sure you understand the gravity of the material.

Beverly Fierro – PSY 627
Fierro’s class was basically a teach yourself course. She reads off the lecture slides and has breakout rooms where you basically redo the assignments from the async work. The exams are open notes and open book so it is easy to get a good grade however if you have questions or need clarification, she will simply direct to google. She also is not culturally attuned so be cautious of what you share in class and be prepared to listen to off topic tangents and her opinions and views (she will also through in some stereotypes along the way). I would not recommend taking her class.

Aylene Lazar – PSY 623
Amazing professor! She’s very insightful and fun to listen to during live lectures, and she makes the quizzes and exams super easy by highlighting everything you really need to know in red. Her grading is also pretty lax and she’s super warm and dedicated to giving her students information and resources to the point she’ll keep us all updated on new discoveries on policy she has found during her research dives. She also takes the time to individually answer the questions you put in the “Ask the Professor” assignments every week. Really knowledgeable about law and ethics on top of sharing stories to aid discussion while building off the async examples. Would definitely recommend taking this class with her!

Judy Ho – PSY 668
I really disliked the breakout rooms– every class included at least 1, and they would be anywhere from 25-60 minutes per class. Each PSY 668 class may be that way, but this felt very excessive. And the amount of asynch work required each week was also very excessive. Most weeks had very extensive assignments baked into the asynch, and for those who are starting practicum while taking this course (as Pepperdine has designed it), it felt like overkill. For those well into their practicum, it also felt like overkill, as there were many overlapping pieces of information from other classes within the videos, and the assignments had extensive requirements, too.

Danielle Langford – PSY 668
We are in week 9 and she has finally graded our first paper…so unfortunately we might have no idea how our grades will turn out until we are done with the course. We had resources that we needed to get for an assignment (stated in the syllabus) and she did not send them until the day before it’s due. And even that, she just sent one of the things that she was supposed to send. She doesn’t talk about the assignments much and during one week she announced that we had a group assignment last minute that we had no idea about on top of another assignment that was due. Overall, wouldn’t recommend.

Jaz Robbins – PSY 623
Dr Robbins is one of the best professors at Pepperdine. She actually teaches and has a high level of education and experience. In every lecture you can tell the great deal of passion and detailed knowledge! This class is very heavy but you learn soooo much! Time & money well invested with such a intelligent professor, HIGHLY recommend!

Joey Luna – PSY 626
He doesn’t care about his students and definitely does not create a conducive learning environment. Not only that, but he is also a harsh and unfair grader. He is also very passive-aggressive and does not know the topic well. Live sessions were disappointing and a waste of time. Also, he totally has favorites.

Joey Luna – PSY 626
Professor Luna was chill but gave us very vague information about the course expectations, and many of us were very frustrated. He was also very inconsistent and capricious in his grades for our class, at least just before he left the university. Live sessions were very disjointed from async materials. He also did not pay attention to our discussions nor our work.

His class was very frustrating and many of us found it to be a total waste of time. He also was horrible in live sessions, and maybe it was because he was already leaving soon. It also seemed like he did not have any knowledge of research at all.

She is nice but her class is really not that interesting. Research can be quite fun but I wish they designed the class differently.

I have always been interested in research and consider myself a nerd who loves scientific inquiry. But her class can be really boring and sessions lack intricate logic for the course. Not to mention, the design of the course can be better.

Jose Luna – PSY 626
This class was the most disappointing I have taken in my academic life. The teacher was off topic most of the time and did not take his class or students seriously.
