Another one I ended up not being the proudest on. I wish I had the more time to figure out how I could word everything not dialogue to better fit with what his mindsets would be, but instead had to settle on just doing that with the very end section detailing how the Bloodfields in Drizzlewood were created.

I think my brain is at the point of really struggling to rapidly get these out. I think that if I had more time to work on these before they were due I probably would’ve solved that issue, but alas, work schedule didn’t cooperate.

I’m proud at least that I managed to push through and complete this challenge, though my energy was pretty low by the end. I felt family fit with Kralkatorrik the most, considering his legacy in Glint and then Aurene. The glimpse we see of the true Kralkatorrik beneath the torment at the end of “Descent” inspired a softer side of him before it was totally consumed, since Kralkatorrik is also the only one to have a scion out of all the Elder Dragons.

A lot of these this challenge I definitely wish I’d done better for, which I imagine if I made sure I gave myself more time to prep and pre-write it would’ve helped. But I’m honestly pretty proud I even completed this with how busy life has been and a healing thumb.

Since we’re dealing with Zhaitan here, definite content warning revolving around death. Little difficult to write about this Elder Dragon without touching upon that unfortunately (but I tried to avoid  getting seriously grisly details at all). Having not a lot of established canon of WHAT Zhaitan’s personality was like, it was kinda fun to explore this and toy around with ideas.

…now I have to actually finish writing the rough draft of day 5 on the day it’s due.

This was one I had to do the rough draft and final draft on the same day of, so the quality isn’t what I hoped it would be. I had a really hard time figuring out how to develop “Legendary” as a theme without relying on the concept of the legendary weapons, so instead I looked at it through the lens of the impact of the actions of legendary figures in history (as well as playing around with the concept of how the Revenant stances are “Legendary Dragon”, “Legendary Assassin”, etc.

Quality could still be a whole lot better on this, but I felt like this one was quite a struggle and I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t focus more on Mordremoth than I did. I suppose that will just have to be something I rectify in later writings!

Day 1 - Cycle

Written for Elder Dragon Week 2025 Summary: Glint whispers comforting words to her Scion as she prepares to say goodbye. Prompt: Cycle Content warnings: None, minor spoilers for GW2.

Hush, my child. It will be alright. By the time you hatch, I will be long gone. The other dragons will be at rest, for a time, and you will be alone. And yet. And yet, you will know me. You will know us all. You will have a champion, strong and brave, to guide you as you grow. And once you are grown, you will guide them in turn. Your life will not be easy. You will know fear, and rage, and pain. You will bear the burden of your destiny. But You will bear it well. You will succeed. You will know love. Love for your champion, love for this world and the people in it. Love most abundant, my scion. Rest now. Your guardians will come for you, and you will be safe from what is to come. The cycle will continue.

I probably shouldn’t have pushed myself with repeating the “several snippets over a long period of time” as I did with the Soo-Won piece for Day 1, but I felt it fitting that for the theme of “Champion” to look at different periods of my Pact Commander (Danielle Roivas) and Aurene together. And since I do eventually plan on writing more out of their different adventures together, snippets from Aurene’s perspective instead of full scene was the better move.

Thanks to the incredible @the-demon-zephyr for being my RP writing partner for the dialogue in italics at the beginning of the final section!

And thanks to @gw2communityevents for putting this on and giving me a challenge to get me back into writing consistently! (I remembered to use the correct tag for the event this time!)

CYCLE

small piece of drabble with my commander losing it over the dragons. This was originally going to be for Elder Dragon Week but I don’t feel like it’s relevant enough to the topic since it’s just Commander Angst. hope you enjoy yaaaay

Death and rebirth, creation and destruction, sleep and wakefulness. Round and round it goes, endlessly. You’ve been sealed in a pocket dimension, woken up on an island thousands of years in the future, seen your whole world destroyed before your eyes only to be handed another one and told to protect it. And now the Dragons are rising. Not dragons like you’re used to. Not fearsome steeds of Titans mad with power and territorial over their dens, hoarding their age-old trinkets in the dark. These are forces of nature embodied. Magic-eaters. World enders.

You struggle to comprehend their nature, search for the oldest texts you can find trying to understand. To figure out what to do, how to stop them. Throw a wrench in the gears, grind this terrifying cycle to a halt, save now what you could not save before. You wonder if this too is a cycle, if you’re destined to repeat your failures for all eternity. You start to think of them, the people you lost. The world that crumbled before your eyes. The God that was devoured, that couldn’t save you. Couldn’t save any of them. It all comes crashing down around you, the shoddy scaffolding you’ve built to hide your wounds from the world. You slam the old book shut, dust flying everywhere and fall to your knees on the cold stone floor and weep. You couldn’t save them. You were powerless. The library around you dissolves in your mind and you can see nothing but the image of that seeping darkness, blacker than pitch, so vivid you could reach out and touch Him, let Him dissolve your paw as He did the very ground you stood upon that night. It replays over and over in your mind, as real as the day it happened, and you wish so badly that you could reach out and touch it, change fate, erase what’s already etched in stone. You don’t know how long you stay there, only that you weep until you pass out. The next thing you hear is Ogden, his concerned voice echoing off the halls as he rouses you from your troubled slumber. You dreamt of the Dragons consuming Tyria as Djall consumed the Earth.

He stares down at you for a long moment, worry etched deep into his stone face. He asks if you found anything useful. You tell him no, truthfully. You wonder if this cycle can ever truly be broken. You know you have to hold onto that hope, stay strong for the people around you, give them something to cling to. Because you know how it feels to face this alone, without a star to guide you. Even if the worst happens, you know you can’t let them feel the same way that you did. You just hope that whatever happens, it will be enough this time.

For some reason I thought it was a great idea to cover a loooong period of time in a short story that I gave myself a single sheet of paper to draft out, so I may have been somewhat over-ambitious in this.

This is my first time solo-writing since a lot of really rough mental health stuff last August, so I hope I haven’t lost my touch too much! I had to start drafting these out early on account of a healing thumb sprain. >>;;;

I don't have writing to go with this piece, but the big inspiration was the parallels between Aurene and Caithe; the scions and the sylvari, and where they stand without the looming presence of the Dragon Cycle to inform/define their purpose, origins, and family.
