I find it really wonderful and comforting that Mob Psycho 100 is so inherently optimistic, even though its main message, “you are not special” sounds so mean at face-value. Being special means that something matters more than something else of the same category. Being special at baking? Great! Being special at math? Super! Being special at bodybuilding? Neat! Having so many people have such unique special abilities is what makes the world work. But having a special ability doesn’t mean that someone who doesn't match your special ability matters less than you. You can't be special for simply existing, because that would mean someone else isn't. You aren't special because you inherently matter.

Fusion au question,

How did they unfuse? And how does their quirk work fused? (I’m brand new to your tumblr page so sorry if you already answered this question)

I will be real, I'm still on the fence on how they unfuse in the regular au, it's me and my friend's au and I'm pretty sure when we discussed it it had something to do with finally fully accepting each other only to be ripped about how cruel is that lol

When fused, Katsuki's explosions are affected by ofa's strength and therefore a lot more powerful than they would be regularly, but both explosion and ofa still exist as two separate quirks. I think if it had been anyone else, their quirks would have melded more together, but ofa is a bit of a special case

In the 8 yr olds in a trenchcoat version, Aizawa's the reason they unfuse. It's completely accidental, cause he was just trying to stop them from using explosion hehe

In the trenchcoat au, can Izuku still fuse with other things or is it only one thing at a time he can fuse with or the power nulls out bc of Katsuki's quirk

I'm still debating on that tbh. I feel like maybe even if he could, the fusion doesn't really want to tempt fate while already being fused with someone else. He wouldn't want to risk something weird happening or Katsuki or Izuku getting hurt

he's like eight and has powers that can turn his limbs into rocks and metal and stuff, everyone in elementary school probably thought it was cool as hell, I don't think he feels inadequate at all

Personal headcanon for the trench coat au: after the boys get to stay in 1A, Aizawa starts training with them specifically so that they can learn how unfuse. He asks to see how it happened the first time, and it turns out they were playing and did the DBZ fusion dance as a joke when Bakugo asked if Deku could fuse with a person. Being 8, the boys are convinced that they have to do the dance to fuse now.

Trenchcoat AU question: if Izuku can fuse with anything he touches, does it have to be intentional or does it just kinda happen?

What happens if he fuses with a shirt??? Does it just fuse like a normal shirt where he wears it normally but can't take it off, or is there something moe elaborate like the design goes on his skin or something??

it has to be intentional! I feel like maybe sometimes it could happen absentmindedly, but generally speaking he can control it. For non-living things, he can manipulate how the objects integrate with his body a lot more than fusing with a person, which just sort of becomes a perfect fusion between two people (not that he’s done it more than once)

in the trenchcoat fusion au how does izuku's quirk usually 'cancel' when he fuses with objects? I'm assuming he knows this and is not an amalgamation of everything he's ever fused with lmao

like if it's a time limit then is it just wayyy longer when used on a person? i guess it'd make most sense if it was a conscious decision and he just couldn't concentrate with katsuki just yelling in his ear the whole time

He has to unfuse intentionally. Idk the exact mechanics behind it but it probably involves something like visualizing the separation.

Whatever it is he does to unfuse, it just.. doesnt work after fusing with katsuki. So they panic and decide some time later after trying and trying that fusing with people has to be permanent or something. Maybe it’s just more complicated and hard to undo, maybe it has to do with the fact that unlike a rock, humans have emotions and thoughts and “souls” and it’s not easy to untangle that mess

Also it’s funny so yeah the technicalities don’t matter much

Katsuki and Izuku argue that they can stay in clas A1 because they're both eight which means Katzuku is 16. So actually they didn't lie, they pass the age and quirk requirement so they should be allowed to skip 8 grades and go to high school.

Also because there's only 20 desks in clas A1, when they're unfused, Katsuki and Izuku just squish next to each other on the one chair. Which will inevitably result in one pushing the other out of the chair.
