So I have finally (FINALLY) reached season four in my Smallville rewatch and it's just incredible how from the getgo it's so obvious how perfect Lois is for Clark. Like she's so obviously made to be positioned against Lana - small town girl vs big city army brat, shy girl next door vs loud demanding and unabashed, goodie two shoes vs smoker - ignore the fact that those are all things that were presented to us about Lana in season 1 and are very obviously not true anymore, that's what we're supposed to believe, blah blah. But putting Lana aside for the moment - which, God I wish the writers would, but alas - Lois and Clark's chemistry is astronomical. She challenges him, she flirts with him, and he immediately (IMMEDIATELY!!) trusts her, and so clearly already has a tiny crush on her. Her martial arts support him when kryptonite prevents him from acting a hero. They tease each other!!! They're so comfortable with each other from the very beginning!!! She's unashamed to say he's attractive and while he's incapable of admitting that anybody but Lana could be a viable romantic options (which makes me 🤢 I'm so tired of them already) he can barely even deny to Lana that he likes her. It's just gfshsfjfzjxjjjd they're perfect for each other and it's so fucking clear

Also unrelated but I love how quickly they establish the fact that she can't spell, something that they keep going throughout the whole show. 4x03, that's the first mention of it, her THIRD appearance. I love this goddamn show so goddamn much

this hit me hard

something that a lot of smallville fans fail to notice is how much Lois REALLY loves Clark. One of her most noted storylines is her fear of being alone and abandoned (similar to Clark). This fear stems from her father and the way he raised her due to her mothers death. Keep in mind that the second time Lois and Ollie dated again, she knew he was the GA. This was a huge step for her to take because of how he treated her in the past as well as her fears and insecurities. YET she still breaks up with him because she is unable to commit to his superhero lifestyle, afraid that he’s going to abandon her along the way to his destiny (this is the reason why Clark stays with Lana in s7 btw, because Lois isn’t handling Ollie’s vigilante lifestyle so well, why not settle and stay with Lana since she already knows and is somewhat used to it).

In Infamous, Lois says “I’ve been down the hero road before, and everytime I make a giant u-turn. But THIS was different.” It’s not different because her insecurities suddenly disappeared, it’s different because it’s CLARK. She loves him so much that she’s willing to force her fear of being alone aside to make sure it works with him and HIM ONLY. “You’re the one I want to get it right with”. She doesn’t do this with anyone else. Yes, she ran away after their first kiss but that fear goes back to the last scene in Infamous (when he bails on her) and she probably felt the kiss was a fluke (literally her ptsd from bride). AND yes she went to Egypt when she found out he was the blur but that’s because she doesn’t want to come between Clark saving humanity which stems to why she called off the wedding. All of this because of HOW much she loves him, she’s never loved someone as much as she loves Clark, not even a little bit. And I love that it parallels with how much Clark loves her. “Lois, I died when you left.” ��I can’t live in a world where you don’t love me.” Lois wants to be needed and loved, Clark NEEDS to LOVE her and be loved in return to do what he does best. And that’s why no other ship on this show will ever come close to them.
