She gets two new pairs of sneakers in case one gets dirty.

He doesn’t have a clue what kind of books kids like, but he lets her pick some out and reads one to her on the bus ride home.

He gets her a happy meal, the one with SIX chicken nuggets and not four because she’s getting bigger and will eat them all.

Also if you think they’re walking out of that store without a new stuffed animal you’re lying to yourself.

Shane had a thing about sundresses. The thing is he liked it when you wore them. Not that he’d admit that, of course - the man would rather die than be forthcoming about anything. But you could tell by the way his fingertips would trace the line where the strap met your shoulder that he liked them.

Sitting next to each other at the bar gave you another clue. Just for a minute, a warm hand cupping against your knee. The slight scrape of his calloused thumb as it brushed your inner thigh. Gaze on his drink, as if he wasn’t making your heart pound.

Of course the way he’d push you back against the wall the second you got home was a good indicator too.

“Little warning first?” you’d laugh as his hands would race up under your skirt.

“Here’s your warning,” he’d say, kneading your ass and grinding his hips against yours.

Maybe you’d make him work for it a little more, to slow down and hold himself back. Make him watch as you let the dress fall, his hands pushed flat against the wall on either side of your shoulders. Make him kiss you slow and careful while he shimmered with barely contained heat.

Usually, though, you let him pick you up behind the thighs and throw you onto the bed.

Both were good.

And either way it ended the same, Shane panting in your ear, warm and heavy between your thighs, love bites on your shoulder that would keep you from wearing another sundress for a week or two. That was alright. You were an expert at working him up. Sundress or no, there’s no way you wouldn’t be right back where you were in a day or two.
