Another recent mix; The Workday Release track California.
These multi tracks were provided courtesy of Produce like a Pro.
Using subtle reverbs, delays and modulations was the key to the mix here.

From time to time, when not working on a project for a client I like to dive in to some of the many mixing and production resources around and work on multi-tracks that they make available. It can be a really good challenge especially if it’s a style of music you don’t get to work on too often.
If you sign-up to the Produce Like a Pro academy, run by renowned producer Warren Huart (Aerosmith, Augustana, The Fray), you get access to a bucket load of multi-tracks as well as a wide range of videos where he shares his own tips and tricks. It’s from there that I got my hands on Eternal Eyes by John Demena.
I really like working on tracks from Warren as there’s usually a lot of tracks within each song meaning you have a lot of options when it comes to production; you don’t always have to use everything provided and it’s a great test of your discipline as a mixer/producer to do what’s right for the track, your client and the vision you have for the song.
After I’d loaded the tracks into my mix template and started working on the static mix I started to think of the 90′s grungy rock track ‘Inside’ by Stiltskin; after several more listens my mind was made up that this was the style I wanted to go for (let me know if you think I achieved that :-)).

There were plenty of guitar tracks and pads to utilise to get enough atmosphere and width to the track and the fact there were a couple of printed reverb tracks for the vocal meant there was an opportunity to bring some different textures into the vocal for the middle 8th and chorus.
It would be great to hear what you think or if you’ve also mixed this song how you approached it!
