jack 100% has some sort of anxiety disorder that he’s just brushed off as his perfectionism. besides that, jack tends to have a good sense of himself and is not against indulging in self-care when he knows he needs it.

jack had a happy childhood. he had two mothers who loved him and he spent most of his youth going to see scary movies at the local drive in and the local library, researching on whatever his latest fixation was. the way he was raised caused jack to be a lot more mature than his peers when he was a kid, and he stills finds it a little difficult for him to find common ground with people his own age even in adulthood due to this. despite that, he’s happy with where he is in life now and feels he’s on a roller coaster than only goes up. living in the past does no good for anyone.

jack has always been a social person. he spent a lot of his youth working at his moms’ store and interacting with costumers so, even when his over-the-top curiosity and personality would turn his classmates away, he’d always be engaging in some kind of social circle. and when he got zero, jack was able to have an even more consistent companionship, someone to talk care of who would in return take care of him & his epilepsy. plus, zero is a great conversation starter when making new friends. everyone loves dogs!

🍓  :    how is my muse typically seen by others?  does it ring true to who they really are?  does their reputation matter to them?

jack can typically be viewed as very intense upon first sight. he understands why it can take people a little while to warm up to him, he’s tall, pale, all-black-wearing and constantly being followed by a dog, his presence announced with the jingle of the bell on zero’s collar. but despite how he can seem, jack is a social butterfly at heart and loves talking to anyone who’ll listen.

jack is a master pumpkin carver. he isn’t called ‘the pumpkin king’ for nothing! he also can recite multiple shakespeare monologues from memory at the drop of a hat.

jack doesn’t really get the desire for plastic surgery. he was raised to be happy with what he had given face-wise, and always found it a little strange in high school when girls would come back over the summer with brand new noses. but he never made his slight confusion known, because the last thing he’d want to do is seem judgmental or like he was sticking his nose into other people’s business.

jack very fairly falls in love with people. he spends too much of his time focusing on his latest hyperfixation to think about romance. while he took a nice boy to his senior prom in high school and has gone on a handful of blind dates organized by friends, it’s never really gone beyond that. jack loves his family, his friends, and his studies, he doesn’t really see the need to have anything more than that.

He had hoped there had been a more enthusiastic response but, hey, it wasn’t an out-right no yet! “I was just assuming that if they didn’t, it would be a great opportunity to make some.” If there was ever a time to socialize or make a friend, Jack was always hoping it was at an event he had helped organize. “He always is,” Jack mumbled, looking down at the poodle-mix and tucking his clipboard under his am before scratching behind the dog’s ear until Zero jumped up to lick at his owner’s fingers, attempting to see if this was an offer of food. “Zero, not now, boy. Jack had been spending his morning walking around the halls and courtyards, a black clipboard in one hand and Zero’s harness leash in the other. Now that Halloween had come and gone, he had already started decorating his side of his dorm with various Christmas decorations ( along with a few little wall decals of menorahs and dreidels, to show his support for the Jewish population of Sherwood of course ) and had been struck with the realization that he still had Thanksgiving to get too.

With Zero’s bark drawing his attention towards a person walking passed that he had yet to question, Jack turned his stroll into a brisk walk until he was up by their side and pulled out his pen. “Hi, hello! Quick question; do you think there would be a demand for a Friendsgiving party on campus? ” He looked up from his clipboard, eyebrow cocked in curiosity. In Jack’s opinion, this was the best way to go about trying to plan any sort of get-together, with a census and written questionnaire. 

“ Because I know Thanksgiving is not the type of holiday I wish to endorse due to all the, you know, horrible atrocities towards the Native American people, but my moms taught me how to bake a mean pumpkin pie and I feel like that’s something everyone deserves to experience. ” Zero let out a happy yap, tail wagging and tongue out at the mention of his favorite under-the-table desert. “ Zero agrees with me, ” Jack said with a smile, clicking the end of novelty bat-covered pen with enthusiasm.

jack had been taking zero out on a walk around campus to stretch his legs when he had found himself caught up in his own thoughts and when zero had let out a small bark of alert, jack had looked up and noticed he had walked right into archery club practice. 

and while jack had no real interesting or understanding of why someone would be shooting arrows at targets for fun, snow had been pretty darn impressive with a bow and arrow. and muttering to the dog by his side; ‘impressive, but i feel sorry for the deer and ducks that will be hunted down’ just a little too loudly wasn’t a great way to show his admiration.

when he had noticed that snow had heard him, he had quickly back tracked. “ not that i think you’re some sort of killer! or even a hunter! i just come from a town that had a lot of duck hunters!”  when snow shot another arrow, jack looked down at his feet for a moment, face red with embarrassment. 

" like i said, hunting isn’t always about killing. ” jack let out a sigh and a nod at snow’s remark. “ i suppose that’s true. ” with a huff and a lazy pat to zero head, jack begrudgingly admitted; “ why lie, i blame my lack of skill in archery and pretty much all sports for my...misunderstandings. ” zero let out a yap that felt very pointed and jack playfully rolled his eyes. “ and my vegan phase i went through in high school. ”

“ sorry! so sorry! ” jack did his best to assure, hands up by his head in surrender. he looked down to zero, where he sat alert and aware at this feet, and gave a whistle, letting the dog know it was time for him to stop his howling and growling.

“ we were just trying to, like, halloween scare you. but it would’ve worked a lot better if zero hadn’t gotten so carried away. ” jack shot a look at the white poodle mix in question, the bell on his collar jingling as he flopped against the ground in what appeared to be dog embarrassment. jumping out at people and yelling in a scary costume was one of the most classic scare tactics but it wasn’t usually accompanied with a poodle in a devil costume, doing it’s best ‘cujo’ impression.

“ he just really likes barking at people and trying to be scary, he doesn’t get to do it very often, especially during work hours. ” with a meek smile, jack rubbed the back of his neck apologetically. shego was a tough cookie, jack knew that much, and he didn’t doubt that she would indeed lunge at any sort of threat.

Jack is very passionate about Halloween, and even more so about Christmas. He was raised the only child of two lesbian mothers - that the local children 100% believe are witches – who earned a living by running an all-year-round Spirit Halloween-esque store that sold everything spooky and bloody 365 days a year. Jack was raised on horror movies, but not as a means to scare him, as a source of comfort. The monsters under his bed growing up weren’t to be feared, by encouraged. There was something always protecting him while he slept, how cool was that?!

Every Halloween was an occasion. The house was always decked out in the scariest decorations they could get their hands on and Jack always had the creepiest costume out of all the kids at school. His teachers had given their fair share of concerned eyebrow raises at his more…graphic costumes, but it never waivered Jack. He loved getting to dress up and eat candy until he got sick. October was the best time of the year as far as Jack was concerned.

Christmas wasn’t really a thing until Jack started middle school. Sure, his moms put up a Christmas tree and gave him a couple of cool toys each December, but it wasn’t a whole event like it was for other kids. That was until he was dragged along with his cousins to a Winter Wonderland experience at the local mall. There was something about the lights and the fake snow and the glitter of the baubles and overall warmth that drew Jack in. Christmas was almost as beautiful as Halloween, just in a different way.

His love of both holidays clashed to nearly comedic effect most of the time. A Christmas wreath covered in cob-webs, a glass of Eggnog served in a black and orange mug. But Jack loved that even more. He had always been a ‘why not both?’ type of guy, why should he have to chose between the warm toned reds and oranges of fall and the cool air and glistening snow of winter? Jack’s indecisive nature, however, did make things a struggle when high school came to a close. He settled on earning a degree in Literature at Sherwood University. He did love Shakespeare. 

After a few long nights with little sleep, Jack had a seizure in the middle of class one day during his freshman year of college. After a few days of testing and a few more seizures, Jack was diagnosed with epilepsy. A few months later, in order to help make things at school less of a stress, he got Zero; a small, white poodle who served as his seizure alert dog. As the years have passed, the two are almost never seen apart. Zero is a big fan of attempting to dig through people’s bags during classes in search for snacks but the bell on his firetruck-red collar more often than not gives him away.

As his time as a Literature student came to a close, Jack still wasn’t satisfied. He never was. So he decided he’d stick around a little longer and test the waters, studying the aptly fitting mortuary sciences and minoring in theatre so he could put that Shakespearean knowledge to good use!

While almost always decked out in all-black and walking down the halls with his brow furrowed & muttering to himself about something seemingly deep and meaningful ('seemingly' being the key word), Jack is one of the biggest optimists he knows. He loves listening to people talk about their day and showing random acts of kindness to brighten his friends’ days whenever he can. He gets overly excited quickly and once he has his mind set on something, it’s almost impossible to slow his roll. Despite that, when Jack gets mad, he gets mad. He has no patience for bullies and people who try to make other people feel small and he’s not scared to show it.

Jack had been stuck in a rut in terms of what he wanted his future to look like for the longest time, and once he was in his finally year of majoring in literature, Jack decided that just didn’t fit the future he saw for himself, and headed back to school to study the much more suitable subject of mortuary sciences with a minor in theatre.

Jack is very passionate about his studies and is always attempting to boost morale amongst his fellow students by organizing study groups and movie nights as often as he can. He is currently housed in Thoresby Hall
