The principal investigator of Encompass Clinical Research in Spring Valley, California, Dr. Hanid Audish began gaining familiarity with clinical research as a sub-investigator at the same institution. His interest in clinical research developed while he worked as a family medicine physician for Encompass Family Physicians Medical Group. To help patients better manage and treat various conditions, Dr. Hanid Audish often looked into clinical trials, thus prompting his eventual move into the field full-time. Now, as principal investigator, he is responsible for overseeing clinical trials related to conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. Licensed in basic and advanced cardiac life support, Dr. Audish completed his medical studies at Western University of Health Sciences (WUHS), followed by his postdoctoral training at Downey Regional Medical Center. Dedicated to staying current with the changes in the medical field, he routinely earns continuing medical education (CME) credits. He has maintained membership at the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American Osteopathic Association for more than a decade, and served as a clinical facilitator at WUHS/COMP for one year during his medical postdoctoral training.

Osteoarthritis - Symptoms and Treatment

A member of the American Osteopathic Association, Dr. Hanid Audish is a principal investigator at Encompass Clinical Research. Currently, Dr. Hanid Audish is working on clinical trials dealing with several chronic conditions, including osteoarthritis and type 2 diabetes. A type of arthritis that occurs when there is wear of the protective cartilage between the bones, osteoarthritis usually affects the hands, knees, hips, and spine. When a person is affected by arthritis, the damage to the joints is irreversible, but the symptoms of this disorder can often be managed. Discomfort, stiffness, and inflammation of the affected joint area are common symptoms of osteoarthritis. Patients also sometimes find it difficult to move the affected areas, and when they do, they typically experience a grating sensation that may be accompanied by cracking and popping sounds. Medication and good lifestyle choices, including exercise and physical therapy, are some available treatment options for osteoarthritis. Medications that can be taken to lessen the symptoms of osteoarthritis include painkillers such as acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, and diclofenac. In general, these medications should be taken only after being prescribed by a doctor. Physical therapy, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and thermotherapy, can also be employed in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
