I thought we'd have a lovely dinner in the extension with the French windows wide open and the early evening sun still bright and warm. And any other Saturday in the last two months it would have been possible, but today it's peeing down!
Luckily the menu will work whatever the weather conditions, a few canapes with champagne (originally Pimm's, but hey)
Then confit Gressingham duck leg, garlic sausage, a rich cassoulet style bean stew, and a rare duck breast. Served with steamed French beans and Parmentier potatoes. And a gorgeously rich Villa Antinori from near where my friend lives in Tuscany.
Pear frangipane tart with crème fraiche to finish.
Talking of beans, this should ensure the hostess's enjoys some attention, non?

That was odd, watching the Lionesses getting well beaten by Sweden in the Euros when midway through the second half there's a power cut. Inconvenience ramped up to eleven by the realisation the houses on the other side of the road are unaffected!
Power company says could be 4:00am before it's repaired, nowt to do but go to bed with maybe a little prescription analgesia...
A sudden humming sound and a flickering light wakes me from a feverish slumber about 11:00pm and echoes of a dream that I start to write down.
The bones of a screenplay, melancholic 60/70s Americana. Boundless miles of Montana blacktop and four disparate characters with no past and no future, staring out over the bleak beauty of the west from the red and white checks of a lonely diner...
Check my phone, the Lionesses have pulled off an unlikely comeback from two nil down with minutes to go and won the game on penalties!
Round the next corner lies Sundance, maybe even Cannes. But now the road looks longer and straighter than ever...
Fades to white...
Might have a nap this afternoon.

Have to admit I'm a little disappointed that the Buffy reboot, has only Sarah Michelle Gellar from the original series and she's only down as a regularly returning character!
