The Devil’s Tramping ground is a camping site in North Carolina. The folk and lore allege that this is where the devil “tramps” and so nothing grows on this land. Objects disappear there, dogs are too terrified to go onto it, and so are people. Now this is just a local lore in N.C. so it might not be true, but who wants to go spend the night?

A recently widowed man took this photograph of his daughter playing with her new Christmas presents only to discover that the developed picture clearly shows a spectral figure crawling across the floor. His daughter seems to have noticed the ghost, as she is looking towards it, smiling. He firmly believes that this is the ghost of his dead wife trying to play with their daughter on her first Christmas without her mother.

Dead Children’s Playground

Located in Huntsville Alabama, this haunted playground is situated behind Maple Hill Cemetery (the state’s largest and oldest cemetery).It is set in a low spot and surrounded by rocks and trees on three sides, making it all the more claustrophobic.

The playground has accumulated a deep catalogue of supernatural associations. Locals have claimed to hear children laughing/screaming in the middle of the night. They have seen swings move on their own and ghostly orbs floating around at night.

Legend says that during the 1960s, the area around Huntsville was gripped by a terrible rash of child abductions that devastated the city. Unfortunately, many of the children didn’t survive the clutches of their captors, and their bodies were discovered around the area where the macabre playground now sits.

Meet Josh

I met Josh purely by fate. He came up on my Etsy homepage (I’d never searched for anything Haunted on Etsy). His story really spoke to me and I felt he would make a great addition to my family.

Since he arrived he has been nothing but positive energy. Josh doesn’t really speak about his life before. Through pendulum sessions, dreams and automatic writing this is what I’ve learned.

Josh lived in Montana with his family. He had an older sister (Clara) and a dog (Poppy). Him and Clara were only a few years apart (like 7 and 9). They were very lively kids- always dancing and spinning around. The family as a whole enjoyed being outside. On the day of his passing they were having a barbecue. While everyone else was outside, Josh was in his room. He had found a box of matches and was fascinated by them. He decided to go into his closet to see the flame better. Clothes in his closet started a fire that quickly spiraled out of control.

While he doesn’t talk much about his before he does enjoy talking. He enjoys answering questions about his favorite things (movies, books, etc.) and talking about how he feels.

So yeah I had a Haunted Meet Cute and now have a lovely ghost friend who just loves to cuddle

Ok so I reblogged this like two months ago just because I thought it was funny

Well..... I had my Haunted Meet Cute! I was scrolling through Etsy (as one does 😂). I had never looked up or tried to find haunted objects there and suddenly a listing came up ok my homepage for a teddy bear named Josh. So I thought this is meant to be and brought him into my life.

PS: I love Josh

I want a haunted doll but like, I don't wanna have it be something I search for, I wanna have it come into my life naturally. I want a haunted doll meet cute.

I know I said we had to save Halloween, but tbh traditional Halloween ain’t happening this year

Instead I propose the following

get a mask to match your Halloween costume (I’ve already started designing my Lady Loki mask)

go as a plague doctor or the empty child from dw, or something else that comes with an effective mask

instead of paying stupid amounts of money to go on cheesy ghost tours, make a virtual ghost tour of your hometown and share it with people (bonus points if you had your own ghostly encounter at one or more of the locations)

Trick-or-treating, but like a spooky easter egg hunt in your front yard

there used to be this older couple a few streets over from me that had a huge front yard with a big tree, they built a maze out of inflatables, and hung ghosts from the tree, if you have the space you could do that, and have one person at the entrance letting only one group in at a time

one of my favorite Christmas traditions is late night light drives, do that, but with Jack-o-lanterns and cobwebs

if you have kids and you really don’t want to take them trick-or-treating, make halloween cookies and put on a movie

haunted gingerbread houses?

if you still plan on giving out candy, maybe try giving out tiny purell bottles to kids as well

my neighborhood hosted a socially distanced bonfire for memorial day weekend, see if you can get your neighbors to do that, and tell ghost stories while you’re at it

Host virtual costume, or haunted photography contests

See if there are any ghost towns in your area, spooky, but outdoors

Tragedy was not limited to the Shanley family.

The Barber, Peter Greger, whom James had hired lived in the Shanley Hotel with his family. His youngest daughter, Rosie, was only 3-years-old when she met a horrible demise. The little girl had wandered across the road to the Hoornbeek Farm where she lifted a wooden slab to peer into the covered well. Losing her balance, Rosie toppled into the well, striking her head upon the rocks as she fell. Her body was found nearly two hours later, living her brokenhearted father with a difficult decision. He came to the conclusion that he could no longer live at the site of the tragic accident so he gathered his wife and remaining daughter and returned to Brooklyn. Many people have seen the apparition of the little girl and have heard her speaking to them from the shadows of the hallways.

The Shanley Hotel is the most haunted hotel on the East Coast. The history dates back to 1845 and the paranormal activity that has been captured here has made this hotel one of the most sought after locations to ghost hunt.

The spirits that linger span the many decades of the hotel’s existence. Guests have seen full-bodied apparitions of a woman in Victorian dress, a man wearing the garb of the 1920’s, a little girl that giggles and plays in the corridors, a ghostly feline that meanders between the legs of guests and many, many more. Photographs and bone chilling EVPs (electronic voice phenomenon) have captured evidence of the hauntings. Disembodied voices calling out to guests, shadow figures watching from the darkened corridors, spirits slipping under the covers…you will not be disappointed!

Who exactly are the spirits that are wandering the Haunted Shanley Hotel? Many believe that James and Beatrice Shanley still check-in to see who is staying at the hotel. Although the Shanleys were lovely people beloved by the community, they knew more than their fair share of tragedy. Beatrice adored children but buried three of her own, none of which lived beyond nine months. Is the woman heard sobbing the imprint of her mourning soul over the loss of her children? Her sister, Esther, also died unexpectedly at the Shanley Hotel after suffering Influenza. Maybe she is still looking for her two young children she left behind.

Another spirit you may run into is that of little Rosie. James had added a barber shop to the Shanley Hotel when he bought it and hired Peter Greger as the barber. Greger moved into the apartment at the Shanley until his youngest daughter, Rosie, fell tragedy. Having wandered over to a neighboring farm, the little girl lifted the wood over the well and fell in. Her body was discovered two hours later but her spirit never left the place she called home. She’s a playful little girl that can be seen and heard wandering around the Haunted Shanley Hotel.

There is another little boy that lingers in the attic. Jonathan, as he has been affectionately called, enjoys the toys that guests have brought him and has been captured in photos and in EVPs. His room is next door to a room that is occupied by a more sinister spirit. Joe is believed to have been a member of the Irish Mafia that frequented the Gentleman’s Club and Bordello. He can be quite grumpy but he’s always willing to talk!

Joe is not the only darkened soul that hangs about the Haunted Shanley Hotel. Alfred E Volckmann was a 20-year-old butcher boy when he brutally attacked and killed nine-year-old Helen Glenn. Is he penitent for his heinous actions towards the young preacher’s daughter or is he simply terrified of moving on?

Other strange happenings have been rumored to have occurred on and around the property including a little boy run over by his father’s car, a woman drowned in a bathtub, another woman who was either strangled or hanged herself (most psychics believe she was killed and the hanging was staged), ladies of the evening disappearing…the impression of so many deaths has thinned the veil allow spirits to freely step through and entertain the guests at the Haunted Shanley Hotel.

Phantom smells such as tobacco and perfume, doors opening and closing, chairs and objects moving of their own volition, guests being touched, the feeling of being watched, lights turning off and on, full-bodied apparitions, shadow figures, disembodied voices—the Haunted Shanley Hotel is waiting for you! The only question that remains—will you last the entire night?!?
