I have a significant birthday coming up in the fall and want to plan a short trip (five days) to celebrate, but I’m in the blue skies phase where I could go anywhere and am just brainstorming lots of options.

So if anyone wants to pitch a US (or possibly Canadian) town or city that I should look into, I would really appreciate your suggestions!

I like food, history, museums, day hiking, and beer, but those are pretty general categories—I’m open to most places that have something unique to offer

I’ll probably go in mid October

Bonus points for being affordable (RIP every attempt I’ve made to visit Newport, Rhode Island)

Bonus points for having good public transit, but I can rent a car if needed
