I've noticed that when a kid meets me, like the child of a family friend or family member, they seem to really enjoy being around me, and I've noticed it's partly because of my disability.

They're very curious, they want to know everything about it: what happened? What does it feel like? Whats your life like? I explain best i can, and they really do listen. They love to help me carry my stuff so i gave to walk less, they love helping me and checking in on me to make sure im doing okay. They'll tell their parents, "hey what about Wish? She needs X accommodation."

And when i see kids that are strangers, yes, they do stare, but most of the time they wave and smile and say hi!

Im saying this because one of my first experiences with ablism was censorship. People didn't want me to talk about my illness, my life, my existence. People tell disabled people, especially ones with visible symptoms, deformities, or amputations, that they are not child friendly, they're mature content, they should hide themselves so they don't make people uncomfortable.

If a child, if multiple children's first reaction to a visibly disabled person, is to help them, hear them, and listen to their story, why the fuck should we be censored at all? If a CHILD is naturally open to these things, than this "discomfort" is a learned thing and a personal problem.

Don't fucking label our content as "trigger warning disability/medical", dont say the children shouldn't see us, don't say we shouldn't talk about that "heavy" stuff.

On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."

As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.

As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.

May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.

An atheist doesn't believe in god, but an anti-theist opposes religion in some significant way. I am an anti-theist. I am generally against participation in religious institutions, though people can do whatever they like in their free time, and I think belief in the supernatural should generally be pushed against.

I loved the article. At first I was wondering why they were simply smashing the sea urchins instead of harvesting them, because it seemed like a waste. But in the article, it details that the urchins are starving and have almost no meat. The reason it got this bad is the urchin's two top predators, sea otters and sea stars, have both suffered severe losses in that area. With nothing to keep the population in check, the urchins are now so dense that they have overeaten the algae and scratched up the surface so that spores can't take root and grow. It's a classic case of an ecosystem that collapses from removal of a keystone species. Nature can be so delicate, but it can also be resilient. In this case, thousands of hours of smashing urchins with a hammer was what it took to bring back not just the algae, but the fish, shrimp, lobsters, sharks, and all the other animals that live in it.

Shit is bad, but today, I learned that California's kelp forests have made a major comeback with the help of scientists, fishermen, and hammer wielding volunteers.

It's a win for habitat restoration. It's a win for marine life. It's a win for all of the people who helped make it happen.

It's a fucking win and it makes me happier than words can describe.
