TWICE-THE-FURY ıı GRADY
The fight had hardly been that. Theyâd shot maybe two artillery, it was mostly the machine guns and the men who trailed the rumbling tanks that did the work. The hardest part was sitting patiently while listening to everything around him, waiting for the next call for him to load. It feels as though he spent more of the fight watching Bibleâs foot as it bounce.
Heâs more than please to climb out with the all clear, scrambling through the hatch seconds after Bible has slipped out himself. His leg still jumps and jitters, working out the anxiety that mirrored Gradyâs own. Theyâd been warned about rumors of a Tiger. None in the tank had ever been so glad to realize the report was just that, a rumor. Grady settles back against the hatch, already digging into his pockets as he feels the tank slow. He sees quickly what had caught Gorâs attention. He grins, âsure thereâs better ya can do âstead of some Luckyâsâ. The sentence ends with a grunt as a hand cuffs his ear and Donâs voice raises over the engines before Grady can start up a fight properly with the Staff Sergeant.
âHop up, weâll see what we can do.â
Claire couldnât help but grin at the comment floating through the engine noise, Â resisting the urge to roll her eyes and offer a snarky response of her own. The staff sergeant had already handled the situation, and she wasnât about to cause trouble for a crew that probably had weeks - if not months - left to spend together in a cramped space.Â
âThanks, sarge.â She gave the man a nod before she pulled herself onto the tank, wincing as her aching muscles protested against the strain. The adrenaline of the fight had already left her, and now she was starting to feel every ache and bruise. But it was nothing she hadnât handled before, knowing that the ache just meant that she was still lucky enough to be alive.Â

Her eyes scanned the crew as she settled down, a little unsteady at first as the tank roared to life again and continued down the road. It had been too long since she had been allowed on any kind of wheeled transport, and it was odd feeling an engine under her feet rather than just dirt.Â
âAinât much, but I might be able to dig up some Hersheyâs if youâre lucky.â Eyes turned to the first man that had spoken as she held out the packet of Luckyâs for him to take. Well aware that none of the men crewing the tank would be cheering over a bar or two of chocolate. âOr maybe youâre after somethinâ more sound, like crackers?â
#twicethefury#(I was trying to think of something that's not too tasty and that the men probably wouldn't want to eat ever)#(Not sure why my brain went to crackers lmao but hey maybe they had crackers that tasted like sawdust or something)#(Also typical Claire to start talking about food as if that's what Grady meant lmao)#v: Angels without wings ıı Europe

@twice-the-furyâ ıı GRADY
The tanks had arrived at the very moment Claire had been ready to give up. The fighting had been endless, and she could barely remember the last time she had slept, or how many men she had dragged off the battlefield to waiting transports.Â
The tanks had been their saving grace, breaking through the hedgerows and getting the Germans on the move for the first time in days. The rumours of a Tiger hiding somewhere within enemy territory was soon forgotten as men were able to rise out of their cramped foxholes and stretch their aching limbs.
Tanks were still roaring past as she moved down the line, checking that everyone was still as unwounded they had been just an hour ago when the tension in the air had almost been solid. The wounded had been evacuated as far down the road as they could, and most had already been picked up and transported to the closest aid station. However much she would have enjoyed a good meal and some rest, she knew that the aid station was her own next destination as well, if so only to make sure the men she had sent there had been patched up.Â
Eyes scanned the passing tanks as she came to a halt, giving herself a moment to breathe before she moved forward, waving her hands over her head to catch the attention of the crew of the nearest tank. A green monstrosity that had the word Fury painted along the side of the gun in white.
âHey!â Her voice almost got lost among the roaring engines, but she knew she had caught their attention as the tank started to slow down. âMind givingâ me a lift down to the aid station? Could do with one, been on my feet all night.â Digging through her pocket she soon found a relatively fresh packet of Lucky Strikes, which was raised in the air with the same revere as if it had been a delicate vase. âAinât got much to offer, but these might do?â
#twicethefury#(Here we go! Super rusty and Claire's voice isn't what it should but it's a start!)#(Realised we might be able to move this onto some of the parts of Fury as well)#(Either like where they go after the Tiger or where they go to rescue the people who are pinned down in a field)#(Idk we can see how it feels/goes?)#v: Angels without wings ıı Europe

I recently read The Unwomanly Face Of War by Svetlana Alexievich, and despite some super heavy subjects, itâs probably one of my favourite war books Iâve read. It also gave me so much inspiration for Claire and her role as both a medic and a woman at war, and helped give me something to reference when it comes to some headcanons about her at war. So hereâs some things that I can now say are actually legit parts of Claireâs time of war:Â
Her not having periods at all during the war, which was something multiple women talked about in the book. Their bodies just completely stopped having periods after a while, and for some of them they never resumed again post-war, which also resulted in many of them being unable to have children. So Claire probably doesnât experience periods at all from like... 1942 and until she gets back home, and even there idk if it starts up again for her, because sheâs already unable to have kids so...
Her being able to drag and/or carry men that are a lot larger than her without any real issues. Obviously sheâs already pretty strong after having gone through the same kind of Airborne training as any of the men she serves with, but thereâs women who talked about being able to carry men who weighed double their body weight during the war. A lot of it obviously has to do with adrenaline, but girls? Being stronger than they look? Yes please.
Generally people underestimating her until she proves what sheâs capable of? Especially to begin with, seeing as she was only 19 when she volunteered for the Airborne, and 22 when she was sent to war to treat the wounded.Â
#(I feel like I'm forgetting things but that book is so packed with so many stories)#(It's amazing though if anyone's interested in women during WWII and their roles in Russia/The Soviet Union during the war)#(Then totally give it a read!)#(But yeah so many female medic stories I'm living y'all)#(Also them not ONLY carrying wounded men? But also their equipment?? Imagine that)#(Women are badass as fuck I love them)#: Written in blood [Headcanons]#: A girl made of steel [About]

astrificare:
â oh. â well, it ainât the first time heâs misinterpreted what someoneâs saying, and johnnyâs sure it wonât be the last; heâs easily confused by things, and he needs them straightened out for him before they can make sense. itâs not that he doesnât canât get there â heâs not stupid, whatever people say â but it takes a little time. or he gets the wrong end of the stick. heâs not embarrassed about it, anymore; this is who johnny is, and heâs fine with it. the war changed him, sure, but it changed all of them. itâs just more obvious with him, is all.  â i-i get confused sometimes. â
one thing he isnât confused about, though? youâve got to find enjoyment in life, whatever form it takes. theyâve all seen some horrors in the last few years (even if johnnyâs memories only haunt him in his dreams) and theyâre all hurting so much. for him, for the band, music is all thy have left; he doesnât know what heâd do if he couldnât play, who heâd be without that. sitting at his drums is the only time johnny really feels like himself.  â you wanna dance? câmon, i promise iâll go easy on you. â
A part of her almost felt guilty, despite being aware that she probably shouldnât. None of it was either of their faults, and she knew much could be blamed on the war. But that still didnât mean she didnât feel guilty for not being clear enough, when there was no way she could have known his reaction.Â
âItâs fine.â She tried to still the guilt with a weak smile and a nod, for a minute scrambling for the reassurance she had so easily been able to conjure up during the war. âIâm sorry.â Her voice was weaker at that, careful, the guilt over something that really was minuscule growing by the second.Â
Eyebrows rose in surprise at his offer, but it made the situation a little easier. Smile growing slightly as she shot him a surprised look.Â
âIf ya promise not to blame me too much if I crush your toes, then why not? Canât be that hard, can it?â

What was the inspiration behind Claire?
Send some anons!
[Ohh, um, this is a tricky one tbh? Because I kinda want to say other medics?? I mean, at the time of me making Claire and her original blog, I was rewatching Band Of Brothers, and I loved Doc Roe from the first time I saw the show. I was originally going to pick up him or Stephen Gould from Saints and Soldiers (which is one of my all time favourite war movies, together with the second one), but I was also tempted to make another OC, so I ended up doing Claire.Â
I had an idea for a character to begin with, but it didnât feel right for her to just be a nurse or something, so I decided to slightly bend the rules and make her a combat medic. Not only because it worked for her character, but also because I wanted to explore what that might have been like for a woman, and because I wanted to write a medic in general. Iâm also not the best at writing male characters (I try and I do okay, but I usually prefer female), so there was that too.Â
But yeah, I 100% got inspiration from my favourite medic (or corpsman) kids, together with the shows or movies they were in. Claire has obviously changed a lot through the years, and sheâs very much not the same character that she was when I first created her, but the basis is the same, and Iâm so happy to have my medic child!!]
#(I don't know if this answered your question but I hope it gave an idea anyway ahhh!)#(Also I jokingly say I have a medic kink but tbh that's probably true)#(If there is a medic I will love and cheerish them)#(I mean tbh the FC I use for Claire's brother James is a Navy Corpsman in the movie I use stuff from)#(I love my medics ahhh)#(Give me all the medics I will take care of them they deserve all the good things)#: She wouldn't shut up [OOC]#: Watch her ramble [OOC asks]
