It's important to stay healthy while traveling. To remind myself to always brush my teeth I have this handy dandy penguin pal Stanley (who's name changes daily because I forget it) attached to my car window. That way I always have a toothbrush handy 👍🏻😁

Day 3 -Jacksonville Oregon
Mary and I just got to Oregon today! It’s been a beautiful drive. The last two days we camped in the redwoods of northern CA at Humboldt Redwood State Park and then Mill Creek Campground in Del Norte coast Redwood State Park. Both were great! I’d highly recommend both sites.
I worked on my fire making skills and we cooked by campfire both days. We made fresh fish and zucchini, egg and veggie scrambles, chocolate chip pancakes , chocolate marshmallow banana boats and more. And coffee, of course. We had arts and craft time at our campsite last night and did a lot of post card writing and creative postcard making! Send your address and I’ll mail you one!
We are learning to add a good 4 hrs to however long our drive should be. Lots of necessary stops of course. Roadside attractions and spontaneous stops are what it’s all about! Today we made an impromptu stop off the side of the road and went swimming in a beautiful but freezing cold creek. Patrick Creek, near Gasquet, Ca. Along our drive we also saw wild Elk! Got some good pictures on the nice camera that I’ll post later when I have a computer. We stopped at a small diner and saw this lady’s pet Emu! Funky looking dinosaur birds. No we didn’t eat Emu.
Today we went in a tour of the Oregon Caves. So cool! About 42*F actually! A nice change from the warm muggy weather outside. Also a great calf workout. While waiting for our tour we completed all five pages of the activity book, like the good students we are 🤓so that we could get officially sworn in as Junior Park Rangers. We took an oath with the ranger, got a certificate and a pin! I was also the tail ranger in our tour...I walked in the back and made sure no one got left behind. Or touched (or licked) the cave walls. Pretty important! We are staying at a really cute Airbnb tonight. Enjoying being out of the dirt, a clean shower and a real bed. It’s raining with some lightning and thunder. Don’t get to see that too much in California. Very relaxing as I drink my tea 😊Off to Bend, OR tomorrow.

First night of camping, at Humboldt Redwood State Park. More amazingly beautiful Redwood trees! And a yummy fish dinner cooked over the fire.

Heading out on my cross country adventure! So happy to have Mary with me this week! Drove from Berkeley to Humboldt Redwood State Park , making quite a few stops along the way. We visited Confusion Hill and were thoroughly confused by the gravity room. Also saw the worlds tallest freestanding redwood chainsaw carving! We passed by the craziness of Reggae on the River Festival, checked out the world famous Grandfather Tree, and drove the Avenue of the Giants. .

The first 3 weeks at camp have been a lot of fun! Lots of great music making and amazing people. I also enjoyed being a counselor for a week and getting to hang out with some pretty cool kids.

My first solo camping trip was a success! Went to Fashoda Campground in El Dorado National Forest. Testing out the gear before I head out on my own this summer. It was beautiful out and very relaxing! Got in lots of reading time and hammock time.

Spent Mother's Day today celebrating Mother Nature. Went adventuring and hiked 5 miles along the Arnold Rim Trail in the Stanislaus National Forest. Stunningly beautiful. Important to appreciate the beauty in my backyard before I start my cross country travels.

My future travel companion, Sir Pip (squeak), my tiny new tomato plant. He may even someday grow snacks for me!

My adventure begins here, in Pine Grove, CA, where I am finishing out the school year. Only 35 days left until the last day of school. Crazy how time flies!
