It’s just a natural disaster that you’ve left behind
For the cut of cake, for the steak and wine
No more emotions to show
Nobody has to know

I’ve done a few posts before about the similarities between Sanji, Nami, their parents, but I have many more ideas
-Sanji and Nami-
-The only people they were really loved were their mother and sister
-Although their sister could be mean to them she ultimately meant well and is still alive
-Their mother died protecting their identity
-They made money growing up from selling food
-They have a dream that they decided that they wanted to do ever since they were a small child
-They have been training in their skills ever since they were a child
-Connection to the sea
-Connection to food
-Bellemere and Sanji-
-Both of them saw Nami laughing and instantly fell in love with them
-They have dedicated their lives to protecting Nami
-They cook
-Nami and Zeff-
-Very violent to Sanji
-Always hits him when he’s being perverted
-Soft spot for kids
-Will never leave a hungry/young person in need of help (Sanji also never leaves a hungry person but he got it from Zeff)
-Bellemere and Zeff-
-Both were on of the large opposing sides of One Piece (Marine/Pirate)
-They both gave up what they did to take care of a child in need
-They can be rude to their adoptive child but would do anything for them
-Had to give up something in order to protect them from a big deal pirate
-They both cook
-They both sell food
Anything I missed and should add?

constantly thinking of that scene in skypiea where conis reveals to luffy, usopp and sanji that she had betrayed them and the scene in zou where the minks revealed to the gang that they were hiding raizo all along
this scene
and this scene
and it's so emblematic of how the straw hats & their allies approach others, that they would prefer to be betrayed, they'd prefer to be left in the dark, that they're so understanding of how they live in a world that's deeply unkind, so they would never begrudge someone for trying to save their own lives or the lives of their loved ones even if they (pirates) are the ones who come to harm because of it
"you shouldn't have revealed that you betrayed us, because now you're going to be in trouble for it" and "you should have handed me over before you were harmed to this extent"... i think more than any other moment in the series, these reactions are the ones that reiterate best what principled, honorable characters do. conis wasn't able to withstand enel, and the minks had gone through unimaginable suffering in order to not betray their bond with the kozuki, but conis was never blamed for it and tbh the minks wouldn't have been either, even if they'd caved.
and i think it's so important that usopp is here for both of those moments. because usopp is the coward! usopp is ALWAYS scared! usopp more than anyone would never blame someone who was coerced into betraying their allies, he more than anyone understood perfectly that sometimes fear gets the best of you. usopp is always there to say 'it would've been fine! it would've been fine if we came to harm because someone else would have hurt you otherwise' and no matter how much he hides or runs away or cries or screams, at his core is this deep well of strength and empathy that only the coolest, strongest, best characters in this series display.
this willingness to take on pain and betrayal by people who are themselves suffering more, you see that in all of the straw hats, shanks, whitebeard, oden and toki, rosinante, bellemere, all of these characters who've made deep, lasting impacts on us as readers do so not because of their strength but because of the depths of their empathy and integrity. one piece is SO fucking good

so funny how Nami's been turned into the "mom" of the group when usopp has like double the verbal smackdowns according to that one sbs than her. Sanji's whole thing is about feeding the crew. The show itself has made mom jokes with zoro and people start going big bro whenever he's near chopper or any small child plus he's always giving luffy and crew reasonable advice like with the vivi situation. Jinbei's always going around hauling strawhats out of trouble. Franky is canonically good with children. Literally any of them is 100 times more eligible for that role.
Every time I see someone call Nami the mum of the group just for being a woman I die a little inside.
Yes, Nami is nice to children, but we KNOW this isn't some weird maternal instinct she has. It's because of Bellemere saving her when she was just an infant, and her soft spot for children comes from BELLEMERE having the heart to save her and Nojiko - even though they were just random children to her upon first meeting. Apart from Nami's soft spot for children, she's a very violent, immature and angry person LMAO the only thing she does that's 'motherly' is try and pull the Strawhats away from danger. But USOPP does that too, so does Chopper, for that matter.
I literally do not see a single motherly thing about Nami in regards to her relationship with the Strawhats HHH
