I had such a fun time drawing Bette Kane in her many many personas for @msperfectsheep-posts ! Originally I only knew of Bette Kane but through this piece I got to learn a lot about her and her history which was so fun. This is such an awesome idea with so much great inspiration, I am honored I got to bring it to life! Thanks for commissioning me!

BTW if you are as much of a fandom wiki hater as i am And your thing doesnt have another independent wiki, if you change the link from fandom.com to antifandom.com you can get the page ad free 👍 not all wikis/pages will have one but it works like 95% of the time

I always forget that Missy set the Doctor up with Clara. In terms of the master’s plans, I think it’s up there with one of the best. She was really just like “I’m going to set my ex up with this babysitter, and create a relationship so toxic it threatens reality” and that’s exactly what happened. Flawless execution. No notes.

First off, you can feel how deeply dissatisfied Ben already is with the life laid out for him. He’s trying so hard to be polite and grateful because that's what’s expected, but inside, he’s asking huge questions:

🍎 Isle of the Lost, Chapter 18
"Is this all there is? Is this even what I want for my life?"
He’s already dreaming of more — adventure, freedom, meaning — while Audrey is perfectly happy with comfort, luxury, and tradition. It’s not even that Audrey’s being evil or bad; she’s just embodying everything about the "perfect princess life" that Ben is realizing doesn’t fit him.
The heartbreak of it:
Ben wants to connect with her. He wants to feel something. But he can’t force it. When she sings “I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream…” — a song that should be the most romantic thing — he’s hit with the brutal realization that he doesn’t know her, and worse, he’s never even dreamed about her.
Instead, he’s dreamed about someone else — someone different, wilder, freer.
(It’s Mal, obviously, but the deeper thing is that it’s what she represents — freedom and self-discovery, not just a person.)
TL;DR:
This scene is Ben standing at the edge of the life he’s "supposed" to want and realizing he doesn’t.
It’s a quiet tragedy — for Audrey too, honestly — but for Ben, it’s the first real step toward finding his real self.

I went to a preserved medieval city today and they had a bird show with falcons which made me think of Jace.
So just imagine Clace are on holiday in France and go to this quaint medieval style city called Provins and go to the bird show there. They are told “do not raise your arms above your head because it might confuse the birds and they’ll land on your arm instead of the professional’s”. Clary side-eyes Jace like “you’re going to do that, aren’t you?”
The show is actually really nice, they teach you a lot about different species of birds and how falconry was developed in different cultures like in Mongolia or Arabic countries, not just in Europe. Jace shares small tidbits with Clary about Shadowhunter falconry techniques or other obscure facts the show doesn’t cover.
Clary’s favorite part are the tiny barn owls, because they’re so cute. Jace’s is when a falcon grazes his cheek with its talons near the start of the show because the birds fly over the audience sometimes quite low, and incidents happen (and Jace is tall which makes it more likely.)
The cut is shallow, it won’t leave a scar, but it reminds Jace so much of his own falcon from when he was a kid, and of all the cuts and scrapes he had because of it.
At the end of the show, the voice-over talks about how falconry is about loving and respecting the noble animals they work with, a love that spans the millennia since the practise has begun, and Jace starts tearing up a little.
After the show, some of the birds are being a bit rebellious when it comes to returning to their enclosures, including the falcon who grazed Jace’s cheek earlier. It’s on a wooden perch super high up, and even though the handlers wave around their bits of meat and urge it to come down, it won’t.
So Jace raises his own arm, in the same posture as the handlers do to have the bird land on their forearm, and this time the falcon swoops down from its perch to land on Jace’s arm. It affectionately rubs its head against Jace’s head, then flies off to its enclosure.
Jace’s arm is bleeding because you’re not supposed to let a falcon land on your arm if you don’t have the proper protection, but he’s fine, it’s nothing an iratze can’t fix. Mostly, he smiles wistfully the whole day, and wonders if maybe he shouldn’t consider getting a falcon of his own when they get back to New York. (Clary reminds him it’s wildly impractical but she’s supportive nonetheless)

oh my fucking god this is me. i havent been able to fall asleep before 3 am since middle school
one of the most enlightening realizations ive had was finding out that non-24 hour circadian rhythm people were a pretty large group and most of us have oddly similar cycles of usually around 28hr internal "days" and this masquerades as "insomnia" but if allowed to sleep and wake naturally we will just advance forward through time an extra 2-4 hours a day at a relatively stable pace. we can't go to school or jobs or even run errands on normal schedules without massive pharmacological and behavioral intervention. most of the people who have been diagnosed or figured it out themselves will report horrific, life-ruining disruption in their professional lives and terrible health from accrued lack of sleep. this disorder is most common in vision-impaired people which seems to suggest it's related to light cues. anyway just thinking about this as extremely loud yard work woke me up at 8am for the second day in a row

A 14 year old girl flushing her miscarriage down the toilet can be charged with mutilating a corpse, but keeping a dead woman on life support for 120 days then cutting her open to extract a 2 pound fetus because her dead body was decaying too fast to sustain the pregnancy any longer is not only legal but compelled by law. America/the world/men hate women so much.

ok i want to talk a little bit about Cassandra Clare and the use of incest as a plot device because i always see stuff, mostly on tik tok, talking about how CC keeps continuously writing incest into her stories and about how weird it is. but the thing is, she only ever writes it to depict how thoroughly the adults in these kids lives abuse and manipulate their kids.
like in tmi with jace, sebastian, and valentine: valentine told jace that him and clary were siblings because valentine saw that for once in jaces life, jace might choose someone over him. so he lied and said jace has demon blood and was clary’s brother so that jace would think that he was dirty and vile and disgusting and wrong. that clary was good and pure and angelic and jace was evil and demonic, because how could he be anything else when he was in love with his sister, so he might as well join up with valentine. with sebastian, sebastian was so desperate for his fathers love and approval that even after valentine died, he wanted his love so he tried so hard to be like jace. he thought that loving clary would be the thing to fix him, because it was the thing that “fixed” jace. and jace had their fathers love. so did sebastian really have feelings for clary? probably not. but he couldn’t see any other difference between him and jace and how they were brought up other than jaces love for clary, so why wouldn’t he try loving clary too?
in tlh with grace, jesse, and tatiana: tatiana only ever viewed grace as a possession not a daughter, shown through the fact that she continuously used grace to further her own agenda and disregarded any and everything grace ever really cared about, including graces familial relationship with jesse. tatiana was willing to marry grace off to jesse the moment it suited her, regardless of the fact that grace always viewed both tatiana and jesse as family. because tatiana never viewed grace as family. grace was only every a possession, and tatiana bought and used her like one.
none of these depictions of incest are actually romantic. CC is not saying “oh haha brother/sister relationships so sexy” she’s using it to show just how terrible and fucked up these parents are that they would use their children and make them feel like shit in this way. she uses it to show abuse and manipulation and evilness, not to promote sibling fucking.

My various ideas for "Gotham is really fucking weird and makes the batfam also really fucking weird and maybe cryptids except no one but Gotham knows" aka batfam in my questionable cryptids au
Spoiler I have a lot of ideas
Everyone looks a little uncanny and inhumane
Everyone who has ever had the Robin mantle gained the weird passive ability to just echo despite there being no walls for sound to bounce off from
Everyone who has ever had the Batgirl mantle gained the ability to just straight up blend into their surrounding
All the bats sometimes just sound like bats to regular people and all the birds sometimes just sound like fucking birds
All the Robin gang kids are also a little weird but not to the extent that the vigilantes are
All the other vigilantes in Gotham are also weird but the batfam is weirder. Except for Gotham (the vigilante) and Gotham Girl they are the most cryptid/weird/inhumane ect ect (Gotham the Weird City finds those two extremely amusing)
Jason, Tim and Steph being the Gotham born Robins had the easiest time getting a hang of the Robin echo and their other weird stuff
I loved the "Tim can just fucking see the multiverse" fics I've read but I think it would be so much funnier to give him time bullshit and hand the multiverse sight over to our beloved Oracle Barbara Gordon
Barbara is an actual prophecy bestowing oracle
Bette doesn't stay in Gotham until her later teen years meaning she was the least exposed to Gotham is Weird™ meaning she noticed everyone's weirdness first
Bette, during her Batgirl days, made a lot of jumps and stunts without getting a scratch that aren't possible for baseline humans
Bette, even years after leaving Gotham and the Batgirl mantle behind, is still a little weird and unnerving to the titans
Dick's echo thing is so weird and nonsensical that he sometimes echoes without meaning to and just scares the living shit out of some goons across town
Dick has a "Bruce did something stupid" sense but ignores it most of the time when he was robin he exploited it to point and laugh
Bruce just seems to look like this blob of darkness/black with shining white eyes
Kate is sometimes way quieter than she should be
Jason always, without fail knows exactly where to go to get to reach any place in Gotham the fastest regardless of whether he's been there or not
Jason is also to a certain extent aware of the fact that his death was put on vote and that in almost all other universes he died
Damian has both a very easy but also hard time getting used to how Gotham is just weird
Damian can just melt into shadows
Leslie just knows whenever she needs to expect one of the bats or birds. Gotham likes giving her a heads up
Steph is the only one who can do the bird/bat noise thing on purpose and she lords it over everyone. She is also fucking with criminals with those noises
Steph is the weirdest because she has held both the Robin and the Batgirl mantle
Tim goes absolutely crazy whenever he gets wind of Barbara giving an actual prophecy he gets very invested in solving them
Jim Gordon was convinced that all the vigilantes were human until Robin showed up and did the echo thing
You know the horror movie light flicker suddenly standing very close thing? Cass can do that
He was very concerned when he witnessed Barbara spit out a prophecy but like so was she

me personally i would not accuse a book of being either fanfiction or a ripoff if i couldn’t easily point to which characters or dynamics or plot points have been lifted from what i perceive as the original source. if i was going to call something published fanfiction i’d probably have some level of evidence to support that claim beyond. genre comparisons and loose connections that don’t actually add up to anything. but hey that’s just me
