[pm] I'll put a call into the magicks department, see if they can spare someone. I'm sure they can.
[pm] I don’t think they did, no. But I’d appreciate it.

[pm] Did they ever have someone put up protective spells around you house? If not, we should do that.
[pm] Tomorrow.

[pm] Right, yeah. Good point. You and I are getting downright Shakespearean here. Tomorrow?
[pm] You’re welcome.
And it’s not a matter of wanting to. I just reckon I should. You don’t need the notoriety of having a cop hanging around your house…adding more fuel to that fire. Besides…if worse comes to worse and I have to speak out for the Slayers, it’d likely sound better coming from neutral ground.

[pm] Thank you. It was nice, though.
You want to leave? Is it because of this?
[pm] I reckon that’s your prerogative. So I will.
I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that, as a matter of fact. About my going home.

[pm] Wow, that was a lot. Remember when I said you talk too much? I don't really, though, but I know if I say that, you'll just tell me I'm wrong. It's not just the conference. It's everything. I'm not cut out for this, I never was. I'm just going to That's sweet, James. And the gesture was nice, but it's not just about this incident. I know you want me to agree with you and to think of myself as capable, but I just don't right now. I have such great timing with this guilt avalanche, too.
Let me be upset, okay?
[pm] Tess—look what you did. You were willing to go to jail, or worse, for the sake of protecting your colleagues, your Slayers, and your friends. You sat there and verified for the entire world that monsters were real. You didn’t lie, or blame, or manipulate. You told the truth. You were far braver than you’re given credit for, and this is a special occasion. You proved yourself more than worthy to be in the position you’re in, and more than equal to the task of putting others before yourself. And you can shout and shake your head and throw things around all you like, but you won’t change my mind about that.
It couldn’t and wouldn’t have gone better. Nothing would have changed, had anyone else sat up there, save the Council being, quite frankly, a wee bit more ridiculous or elitist besides.
They’d be proud of you. I’m sure of it. And someone had to remind you that the narrow-minded nonsense spouted by that—that—power-mongering shrew is not the only opinion that matters. Far from it. For months, I let them dictate how I thought about myself, and I was none the better for it. I refuse to let them do the same to you. You’re better than that. You’re the most competent, intelligent, courageous person I’ve ever met, and you deserve to know it.
So yes…I made you pancakes. And I bloody well stand by them.

[pm] Because I'm a failure and a screw up. Because my dad used to make those when we did well, and I haven't. Because I don't deserve them. They're the same kind my dad made for special occasions. I didn't see why this was one.
[pm] Why not?

[pm] Yeah.
You're right, moving on is what we need. You don't have to stay here anymore.
[pm] Right. He seems like a reasonable man, from what I’ve read. Nothing like that Lachlan fellow.
I don’t know. What’s done is done. What’s important is picking up the pieces and moving on right now.

[pm] I don't know. Penelope and I had a fight last night and I'm not sure how much I'm going to be in the know anymore. They're planning to talk to that politician, Mr Fellows.
Are you still upset with me?
[pm] What’s going on?

How is your character feeling right now?
//Pretty much like crap. I wrote a solo earlier today before I went to bed, but Tess’s guilt is piling up on her and she’s feeling pretty incapable of doing anything good right now. So mostly guilty and mopey and a few other dwarves.

[pm] Penelope's working on it. She's got people who are more than capable.
[pm] I hope not.

[pm] They can’t do it. There’s no way. Right?
[pm] It's inhumane. I don't think it'll pass.
