Caitlyn slowly touched up her lipstick. She knew she didn't really need it. Normally, she rarely wore lipstick - and such a color at that - but today wasn't just any day. She lowered her hand.

One year. It had already been a year since she had officially moved in with Violet. Just over a year since the war had ended. Almost a year in which they had tried to build a life in the unfamiliar peace. It hadn't been easy, but whenever she'd felt like she was stumbling or even losing the ground beneath her feet, she could always somehow count on Violet to be by her side to support her or help her up. Just as she was ready with the light when Violet found herself in one of her dark places again.

And today Caitlyn wanted to celebrate their relationship. Not with a fine and luxurious meal, however, as her father had suggested, but with something that she could be sure her partner would enjoy very much.

But before she could decide whether she should lean against the bedroom doorframe or not, the front door opened.

Caitlyn ran her fingers through her hair again before taking a few steps away from the mirror and looking at herself. She tried to ignore her blush. The outfit wasn't remarkably revealing in her opinion, but still clearly not something shearcane would wear every day - or every night. But judging by her partner, she wouldn't keep the black silk on for long anyway.

Okay, from now on she could no longer simply ignore the warmth. The corner of her lip twitched.

“Cait, hey, I-” As soon as Vi entered the apartment, she stopped again - and stared.

“Hey,” Caitlyn greeted unfazed, watching the gears work in her significant other. “I've missed you.”

“And I...,” Vi began, and in the next moment seemed to be searching for not just the right words, but words in general, ”am hungry.”

“Oh.” Caitlyn's eyebrows raised. Of course, Vi had had a busy day. Caitlyn grabbed her purple robe. “Sandwiches or something savory?”

As soon as she had asked the question and turned to go into the kitchen, it only took a few seconds for a strong arm to wrap itself around her waist. Warm lips caressed her neck and she was gently pulled back again.

Caitlyn giggled. “What are you doing?”

“What does it look like?” Vi replied roughly, giving her friend a kiss on the cheek. “Starting with dessert, of course.”
