Week 7
characteristics I think two huge principals of design especially in todays society are simplicity and low physical effort. In todays society I feel like humans are getting less and less active and rely on a lot of todays technology to get tasks done for them or do things for them. This is feel is a huge factor within todays economy and what brands look for and focus on when designing new products for the public.
Now, when talking about simplify and low effort use from consumers I mean that in two ways. I mean simplicity within both function and design/look. Nowadays, consumers are more known to gravitate towards more simple looking products. For example, the iPhone has come a long way from when it first came out in 2008, and since then the design and look of the phone has gotten a lot more sleek and a lot simpler looking, along with the idea that it has a lot of useful functions for a lazier consumer such as Siri which eliminates the use of typing from the phone or even going on the phone in general. This this product getting more and more simple as time went on it catered more towards the average consumer, along with the fact that when the phone first came out there had never been a phone that looking like it and it was quite revolutionary. The iPhone, in my opinion, is very simple to use and there's really no tricks or things u need to learn when using it, unless you've been living under a rock.
When it comes to products that cater more towards lazier consumers that focus more on a low effort approach the first thing that comes to mind is Tesla cars. Tesla cars have somewhat of an “auto pilot” feature that allows the car to drive itself. In my opinion I think this feature is so stupid and unsafe. The only time I see this as being of use if on long car trip or road trips when you really just DO NOT feel like driving anymore, but even then I still see it as being unsafe and just another feature to cater towards the average consumer. After doing some research about the Tesla self driving feature, there have been 26 crashes since 2016 and 11 deaths within those 26 crashes. But that's besides the point, I feel as though this is a good example of a design feature that is a good example of low effort characteristics within the design.
Overall, I feel as though the iPhone is a good example that focuses more on the simplicity aspect of universals design elements and the Tesla self driving feature is a good example that revolves more around the low effort aspect of universal designs within todays society.

Week 6
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When looking at these picture is took a while ago for a photography assignment, it’s very apparent that they have heavy bungalow and cape cod influences within the creation of these houses. They all have a heavy characteristics to modern architecture such as broad roof overhangs and modern and tradition building materials. though these buildings and houses were made back in the day when these types of house were very apparent in todays culture and society. These house are found around UWM and Marquette but when you go closer to the water on Shorewood, there are a lot of houses that resemble the Colonial style and the Gothic Revival style heavily. A lot of these are big houses with a lot or space inside, which goes back to another modern characteristic in modern architecture.
When looking more downtown in Milwaukee, especially looking at all the big buildings and skyscrapers for all the big cooperate businesses, that's where a lot of the other characteristics for modern architecture lie. When looking at the buildings some of the following characteristics apply.
- Clean minimal lines
- Walls of glass and broad windows
- Open and well designed floor plans

Week 4
I was pretty busy with other classes this week so I wasn't able to take a walk to see what's around and what has potentially great design elements. One thing thought that I do have in my room that I feel has a great look and design is these speakers I have in my room. They are KRK Rokit speakers and they have a great design to them. They have a very sleek and modern look to them that. make them fit in with any “aesthetic” I guess you could say for any bedroom or living room. If I were to describe them, they have a yellow cone where the sound comes out and a straight air filter at the bottom for the bass to come out of. Along with that, they have a screen in the back to manage sound volume and the ability to equalize the sound that come out of them. In my opinion this is a great addition to the speakers to be able to get the exact sound one is looking for when it comes to making music or listening to music. Now hen it comes to design ideologies, I thing there's a few that can go with these speakers. “Define” is a big part of these speakers I think. just for the fact that these speakers were made for music producers or music lover by people that either make music or love music. These people know what sounds the best and what is critical when it comes to what a music maker is looking for when making music. Another Design Ideology that applies to these speakers would be “Prototype”. There have been many different designs of these speakers for many different generations. As its usually seen within society, especially technology, it’s always evolving and getting simpler and simpler. When looking at older version of these speakers, they're a lot bigger and clunkier making it harder to fit in with spaces and look good within certain spaces. So with the ever evolving technology, KRK (the company that made them) were able to make a nice looking speaker that fits in with most spaces and has great sound coming out of them along with adjustable sound design. Overall, I feel as though these are great speakers and if you love music or make music, you could own these for sure.

Week 1 - About Me
Hi, my name is Henry and this is my second semester at UWM. I transferred here last semester from community college in Illinois and I’m a DVC major. I took this class because its required for my major, but also because I have a genuine interest in graphic design and all that stuff and I look forward to learning new skills within this class. I took a few graphic design classes back in high school, but I decided to take it serious once I got to community college.
I think the things that inspire me the most would have to be my environment and music. I’m into a lot of other things like fashion, art, and reading and all that. but overall I feel like I get the most inspiration from what environment I’m in and whatever music I’m listening to at the time.
