Ideas For Changing Up Technique Class
This is especially true when we get into performance season as well, it’s very easy for us to want to bypass the long technique warm-up and jump right into rehearsals to save time and perfect our work.

Ideas For Changing Up Technique Class
Technique is a crucial aspect of any dance class, we all know that. It is the fundamental foundation of dance which propels a dancer’s growth, increases flexibility, enhances strength and teaches them essentially, “how to dance.” If our dancers are with us long enough, they learn our warm-ups and often know them backwards and forwards without us doing it alongside them.

Developing a Generation of Mindful Dancers
Everything we do we should be done with intention. From taking a breath to mastering a step of choreography, it is so important to remain present in the space you are in at any given moment. In a time where thoughts are usually chased with the next one and the never-ending list of things that need to be done, it is common that we are always one step ahead of ourselves.

Dance Studio Owner Hiring Faculty Check-List
Studio directors, who you choose to hire to be part of your studio family says a lot about the tone you set for your business and the kind of training being offered. I’ve seen many directors go through massive teacher turn-over year after year and can’t figure out why they can’t seem to find a consistent staff who “gets” what the studio’s mission is and comply to it. While you might not fully know someone’s teaching style and whether they are a good fit for your studio until they’re teaching week after week, consider some of these things during the hiring process so you have a mental checklist of what you are ultimately looking for.

The 1 Lesson For A Successful Studio Environment
That lesson….classroom management and expectations. It seems simple enough to think about right? You have to manage your class before you can even think about dance steps and choreography?

The 1 Lesson For A Successful Studio Environment
While all of these elements are essential to a successful class structure, often we miss the boat on what is the #1, most important lesson of all. The lesson that must be the prerequisite to everything else we teach in the studio; the lesson that supersedes all of the above so that the studio learning environment is viable and lends itself to learning, comprehension and application.

Reframing Center Warm Up A set warm-up can be a wonderful way to begin your classes for many reasons. Dancers are taught each exercise slowly and specifically over the scope of however many months; where the teacher should be taking time to make sure the deconstruction of the exercise is clear and the dancer feels confident with the movement, patterns, coordination, timing, etc.

DO STUDENTS REALLY NEED MORE THAN ONE COMPETITION SOLO? The debate over competing multiple solos often comes up every year. With students and parents alike, sometimes the notion is to showcase their talents in every genre and take center stage as much as possible.

DO STUDENTS REALLY NEED MORE THAN ONE COMPETITION SOLO?
There are some important things to consider as studio director if this is something you are contemplating for your dancers. The first and most important thing being, setting up your dancers for success. Is competing two, three, four solos really the best approach to doing that and giving them a great learning experience? Some food for thought, sometimes less is more and leaving the audience wanting more is key.
