My only piece of advice to girls and young women is that you have to become financially independent no matter what it takes. Do whatever you need to do to become financially independent in this world and don’t ever let it go for anybody.
#dying on this hill#social media rn is trying its hardest to market an existence for young women#'day in the life of a stay at home girlfriend!'#tradwife content#etc#predicated on the idea that the best person to work for is your husband#a job without wages or overtime or any of the meager labor protections of modern capitalism#this is#and i can't emphasize this enough#a fucking racket#women went through this throughout history and if you think a stay at home partner's labor cannot be exploited#BOY#do i have news for you!!!!#like i love my husband very much and he is a pro at domestic tasks and emotional labor etc etc#but approaching things as a team will give you way more options and flexibility in your life and in your life together!#there's incredible security in knowing that if one of us loses our jobs tomorrow we'll still probably be okay until they found another one#a tremendous privilege#even in the context of capitalism like if one of our jobs turned to absolute dogshit we'd have the resources to deal with it#so beyond the feminist argument of the ability to leave / have options / etc. it also can let you breathe#this gets fucked by childcare which we are avoiding but this is why you should also support universal childcare#i've seen too many women pushed out of the workforce by the lack of it!!! it's fucked!!!!#anyway cannot emphasize enough for the health of yourself and EVEN your relationship having your own income if at all possible#(*of course disability is another part of this convo and i'd include disability payments as a source of income#that deserves more than the draconian rules associated with it of max bank balances and marriage etc it's fucked i'm not ignoring it)#also the tradwife historically is propped up by the labor of underpaid more vulnerable women#ANYWAY
