It’s kinda hilarious to me how down with murder Merlin is. Like I feel like most shows, especially family shows, have the character at least be morally conflicted about killing. If not out right refusing to kill.
Merlin does not give two shits. He murks someone in the first episode, zero conflict. His body count must be at least in the thousands by the end of the show (considering he took out a whole army). But let’s not forget all the up close and personal murders he commits.
I recently rewatched the changeling, and in that episode in quick succession he kills Grunhilda, the Sidhe and then gives Gaius a look like β€œdo I need to do everything myself?” And gives Elena the potion. ZERO fucks given, he is so unfazed. Merlin is always down for murder. It’s so funny.
And I support him lol.

Love when Merlin goes scarfless. What do you have your neck out for, slut? In hopes that some man, perhaps a Prince, will kiss it? Whore.

Also while I’m on Big Finish stories, β€˜Broken’ broke me (spoilers)
It gives such a different, and more in depth, dimension to Ianto. He is so messed up, even if he is working a cover, and truly is a chaotic hot mess.
He’s drunk, he’s sending Jack off to an alien planet to be enslaved, changing his mind and saving him, AND THEN propositioning him?!
Man hates his boss with icy passion one minute, and then is kissing him a few scenes later. He wanted Jack, like a dare with himself that went way further than he imagined.
A round of applause for Ianto Jones, he really was going through it.

gwen constantly being considered "in the way" of jack and ianto's relationship is stupid but i just realised. i dont think people do it solely to antagonise gwen (though thats definitely a big part of the phenomenon), i think theyre also genuinely unable to conceptualise conflict in a relationship that doesn't come from a love triangle kind of situation. because when you look at the actual canon material, even though jack is a huge flirt theres actually very few moments where the relationship is "threatened" by a third person trying to "steal jack away" (or ianto i guess, but in gwen's fanfic characterisation its always jack). instead most of the conflict comes from their own insecurities and inability to communicate properly. (which i personally find way more interesting than just using a random character as an evil obstacle in the relationship but whatever floats your boat i guess) gwen doesn't really "get in the way" at all: even though jack and her have a lot of unresolved sexual tension and codependent tendencies, jack knows he cant have her and he wants her to stay with rhys, and ianto doesn't really show any animosity towards gwen (theyre really good friends and were already gossiping about jack by season 2 episode 2). ive seen people assign entirely new meanings to gwen scenes just to pretend she really is trying to break up jack and ianto. please learn to write relationship conflict that isnt solely weird love triangle drama its boring

It’s actually realistic for Arthur to have so many friends in fanfictions.
Merlin is the guy who comes from a small village, after all, with only one person as a best friend and a single parent as a mother. Then, he arrives in Camelot and meets all these people, who are so fond of him, and he gets into the circle.
Now, think about it.
Especially in Modern AUs, Arthur has many friends, BUT, what’s unrealistic is how Arthur interacts with them.
He wouldn’t be the jock, the popular guy from the dorm next to people, who drinks beer and has these great frat parties, and who’s hot and confident and blonde and hits on everything that breaths.
No.
Arthur has no idea he has friends.
He doesn’t know they love him, he doesn’t know they care for him, he doesn’t know he can ask for favours, he doesn’t know he isn’t a burden, he doesn’t know any of it, because he has an horrible father figure who blames him for his mother’s death (although not explicitly) and tells him he has to meet every possible human’s exceptations, who forbade him many things while growing up, who gave Arthur a strict diet and a curfew, who never was home, and for that, Arthur doesn’t know how to socialise.
So he would have many friends, but they would have to remind him that he’s not so alone anymore, that he can hang out with them, that they can help him with school work/job related things.
Arthur would stay silent during hang outs, probably drink orange juice, because he doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, go to bed early and get his heart all warm, whenever he receives a β€˜good night’ text or β€˜I’m glad you’re home safe’ text, from either Gwen or Leon or Morgana.
And once Merlin comes by and joins in, Arthur would be impossible to deal with, a constant stuttering but arrogant idiot with an ego as big as a castle. He loathes not being able to socialise, because now Merlin thinks he can somehow flirt with him, and that’s just not alright.
Arthur becomes a tomato with flaring nostrils and audacity, because β€˜how dare Merlin say I’m adorable when I blush, I don’t blush’ and Merlin would be scared of being left alone, like he was back in his small closed minded town, with only one best friend and a mother who sacrificed everything for him, with a father who has abandoned him, and zero knowledge on how to interact with girls.
Arthur and Merlin are the same, but they simply decide to act differently on it.
And this is realistic to me.
