I also think in some aspects timebomb is kind of.. cringe? Not in the way that people might think, just the one specific line that kind of shapes the whole ship for me is when ekko says "i had a crush, until you started talking to the gun." In game, and jinx had an initial response to that.
Also feels a bit jittery and jumped if you catch my drift, but the one dedicated episode was a really nice touch for the two, but badly written for the whole overall thing. imo!
100%. i’m not a league player (i played once and got so bored i gave up) but i can appreciate that they are nuances that occur in game that didn’t happen in the show. but my view isn’t coloured by in game implications, but how the characters were written. i wouldn’t say timebomb is inherently cringe but i definitely think that the overwhelming response to put two very independent characters together romantically really ruined both arcs (imo at least).
as a screenwriter i think one of two things; the au episode was used as a tool to garner sympathy for jinx. not from the audience (because we all know that jinx at her core is a pathetic, attention starved, sociopath, and we all pity her for that) but from ekko. dramatic irony serves a lot of the individual prerogatives that each character has; ie, the fact that people don’t know jinx killed silco drives forward their hatred towards piltover because they think that they were the cause of death for someone they were so loyal to. but in the case i’m trying to make, ekko doesn’t know a lot of the torture jinx went through emotionally; how she carries guilt and burden about vi, vander, claggor, and mylo. the au episode was meant to show ekko that beneath silco’s jinx there is still a powder who is still so loyal to her family (tending the last drop rather than venturing into her own engineering and innovation). ekko is given hope that if this version of powder can exist, some hope is left for jinx.
he grieves her as a lost of potential to reconcile his old life before everything went to shit. he grieves her as a loss of utopia, and as a friend who he grew up with. reducing that to a crush and a romantic relationship falls short because it is so reductionist to say that the only way a person can and should be able to show love is through romantic love. i think it definitely could have been better communicated by the writers, but i also know the need to sensationalise every possible ship to garner more media attention.
so . i think that the timebomb wave, while i wholeheartedly love ekko x powder, is hugely detrimental to both ekko and jinx’s arcs. anyway

adding on; i really think it’s so toxic that i have to justify WHY i like a ship/dynamic. like why can’t people like things because they feel seen and represented? i’ve never seen a lesbian sex scene ANIMATED, on NETFLIX, representing a big corporation that is larger than life itself. not even looking at the chemistry and character or whatever this virgin has said, a wlw relationship that is so explicitly represented, almost to the same level that jaycexmel were represented is CRAZY in terms of progression for artistic media and animation. let me have my lesbians and stop being angry that i think your barely-fleshed out, 3 seconds of screentime couple is overrated
i bet youre one of them bitches who like caitvi only because its its a wlw and disregarding actual chemistry and character
woah. that’s not it. i also like it because i’m a lesbian

more on caitvi; people who felt like the sex was too rushed and out of place, have you never been so horny for a woman you literally forget where and who you are like
