thinking deeply about america's cheerfulness and the new perspective that hetalia gangsta gives us on it, confirming it is A) quite unnerving and B) quite often fake.

america confesses outright to canada that he doesn't like that he can "see right through [him]," uses his playful demeanor as a means of avoiding trouble or managing a situation, and very blatantly threatens those around him with a friendly smile.

its played for jokes because its a comedy manga but as we can see thru gangsta, no matter the universe or context, He Really Just Does That. he really does use that award-winning smile to get his way or hide his intentions. he uses it so he can make threats and not face consequences.

like... they're the exact same character, doing the exact same things. the only thing that's changed is the narration style. it just makes me trust his smile a little less

reaaaally appreciate hetalia gangsta portraying america as less of a goofy burger guy and more of a goofy burger guy who has deffffinitely ordered to have people killed . whos kind of a scam artist. whos kind of a monster. despite how desperately america envies humanity he's probably the least human of them all.
