Collector Stories - An Unsung Hero of Kolkata

We bring to you ‘The Story of a Collector’.
The Calcutta Tramways Co. Ltd was formed and registered in London on 22nd December, 1880. Trams were the brain child of the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon with a motive to ensure better public transport and better passage of goods.
The first horse drawn trams in India ran between Sealdah and Armenian Ghat Street on 24th February,1873. In 1900, electrification of the Tramways and reconstruction of tracks began.
The Calcutta Tramways Company is the oldest electric tramways in Asia as well as India’s only tram system, since 1880.
All these history would have been lost, but for this man Souvik Mukhopadhyay, the creator of the Tram Museum “SWARANIKA” and the Cafeteria located in Esplanade Tram Depot, Kolkata, it has been made possible to restore and maintain the history of evolution of tram system and heritage.
He has been working for the last 7-8 years with the support of CTC relentlessly, running from the pillars to post since the concept of restoring the heritage of Tramways in the evolution of public transport system struck his head.

8 Reasons Why Hobbies is So Important
New Post has been published on https://www.hobbynetworking.com/blog/hobbies/
8 Reasons Why Hobbies is So Important

1. You can meet people by your Hobbies.
Moving to a new city? Newly single? Pursue a hobby that requires you to come into contact with other people: team sports, a sewing class at a local fabric store, pottery making through community education
2. Hobbies build self-esteem.
If you dislike your job or your unhappy in your relationship or you simply feel like you’ve lost your way in life, developing a hobby can be a way to build yourself back up.
3. They’re a way to relieve stress.
This is sort of related to Reason #2, but many hobbies provide stress relief simply because they’re an oasis from the rest of your life. You can forget about a bad meeting at work or a fight you had with your mother while you sing in your church choir or train for a 10k.
4. Hobbies make you interesting.
At a party, you can only talk about being an investment banker for so long. before people’s eyes begin to glaze. But mention that you’ve traveled to 10 countries in South and Central America, and that you have an upcoming trip to Peru planned, and people want to hear more.
5. Hobbies are a point of connection with other people.
If you like gardening? Bowling? Rescuing neglected dogs? These are hobbies shared across a wide range of race, age, gender and economic groups.
6. You can avoid boredom.
I have zero scientific evidence of this. but I really believe that boredom is responsible for a lot of society’s ills. and people’s destructive behaviors. How many people come home and drink 4 or 5 beers every night. simply because it’s something to do while they watch TV?
What if 1 or 2 of those nights they were at a class learning to make stained glass or canning the produce from their garden instead?
7. They keep you youthful.
Maybe this isn’t on your mind yet. but establishing hobbies now. (even if they change over the years) is a really healthy habit to form for your later years.
8. Hobbies enrich your perspective.
Remember that old public service announcement: “The more you know, the more you grow”? Yes, I’m channeling the late 80s here.

Collecting is a very broad and popular topic for hobbies

Collecting is a very broad and popular topic for hobbies

Collecting is a very broad and popular topic for hobbies .
and it is a very easy one for young children to pursue. Collecting can include: coins, stamps, rocks, dolls, baseball cards, action figures, post cards, comic books, dolls. Barbie dolls, sea shells, rocks, military paraphernalia, movie and/or sports memorabilia and more. A collection is a great way to learn about people, places and things.
Coin collecting can be an interesting, and educational hobby for kids. There are an abundance of books on this subject to help with research.
It can be fascinating to read about different cultures and to find out how currency has played a part in their development. Every coin has a story behind it. What does the design mean? What was the original value of the coin? Why was it made out of the metal selected? Finding out the stories behind a coin can be just as much fun as finding the coins themselves. Your child can also learn about geography by collecting coins from many different parts of the world and tracking it on a map.
It is easy to get started in collecting coins. The first place to look, with parent’s permission, is in common places like your piggy bank and mom’s change purse. Next let your relatives know of your new adventure. Grandparents, aunts and uncles may have some old coins saved or may have some from a their trip abroad. You can also check flea markets or the cheap bins at coin shops. Start with whatever coins strike your interest. For young children you can start with a box or jars for storage.
The combination approach, meaning buying as well as finding coins, is a good way to enhance your collection. Some sources to investigate are listed below:
Local Banks
Coin Dealers
Collectors Clubs
Coin Shows
Internet Dealers
Auctions
Flea Markets
Antique Shops
Antique Shows
Mall Craft Exhibits

Why am I taking pictures?

Why am I taking pictures?

I’m not writing this to give you an answer, but I’m sharing why I love what photography does for me and why I think it’s such a great hobby to integrate into my life, which also resulted to me starting a photography blog site or join a Community.
WHY PHOTOGRAPHY MEANS A LOT TO ME
As I share my personal reasons to these questions and I’d like to encourage you to add yours in the commenting section as well. Feel free to add a link to your blog or gallery for everyone to enjoy as well.
PHOTOGRAPHY FILLS A NEED
I believe we all picked up a camera at a very young age. no matter how simple or basic that camera may have been. My first camera was a Canon Snappy 50 given to me by my mom when I was 8.
PRACTICALITY
Many feel that photography isn’t an art nor should it deserve as much attention as paintings because it’s relatively easy to get into photography. While I do agree to a certain extent, there are several factors the naysayers fail to realize as well.
THE GADGETS ARE FUN
As with any hobby, the success, growth and longevity depends greatly with its marketability.
IMMORTALIZES THE THINGS YOU CARE ABOUT
The biggest reason, I believe, is just the ability of capturing a moment as it happens with just a single click of a button.

Cycling And It's Benefits
New Post has been published on https://www.hobbynetworking.com/blog/cycling-and-its-benefits/
Cycling And It's Benefits

It’s really efficient
Our lives become more over-scheduled each year, but cycling is a workout that fits in relatively easily because it can replace a morning and afternoon commute. Riding to work – even just a couple of times each week — not only burns calories, but it also sets the tone for the day.
We acknowledge that not everyone lives within cycling distance of where they work and many of us have children to drop off and collect, but there is a good percentage of people who have this option; they just need to give it a try. When you do, you’ll be amazed at how efficient it is.
Cycling saves money
It goes without saying that a bicycle is cheaper to buy and maintain than a car. Equally obvious is the fact that the energy used to propel a bike doesn’t come from a gas station. So each time you swap a car trip for a bike trip, you’re saving money.

Cycling
3. Biking can actually make you smarter
Recent research shows that cycling as a form of exercise sha as well. Cycling gets the nerve cells in your brain firing and as these neurons spark into action they foster the production of proteins such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
It also helps your neurotransmitters communicate more effectively. Put simply, this means you improve your ability to retain information and ability to concentrate. With every turn of the pedals your brain gets stronger.
For More Information Browse through http://www.hobbynetworking.com
4. Bikes are much safer than you think
There seems to be a perception that cycling is dangerous. The biggest kicker of course is that throwing your leg over a bike now and again has an overwhelming potential to actually save your life.
Cycling
5.Cycling is becoming easier each year
Thanks to cycling’s booming popularity, it’s has become increasingly convenient. Local governments are building and upgrading bike paths in many cities and towns. Bike parking and showers are being demanded by employees and are now designed into most new office buildings.
Cycling
6.Somewhere, the perfect bike is waiting for you
There are so many different kinds of bikes there’s bound to be a style and price point to suit your needs. Whether it’s a city bike for short commutes to work and the store, a ‘fixie’ if you’re a hipster, a cruiser if you’re never in a hurry, a racing bike if you’re always in a hurry and mountain bikes if you’re an outdoor type.
7. Bikes can make great (little) people movers
If you find that everywhere you need to go, there are several smaller and cuter versions of you who are depending on you to get them there, then there are plenty of family options. You’ve probably seen families out on bikes and parents towing kids along in those little trailers. These parents aren’t just getting from A to B, they’re also teaching their kids the good habits of exercise.
8.Cycling builds your muscles
Because it works the glutes, quads and calves and leaves you with lean muscles from your ankles all the way up to your lower back. Some of the less obvious benefits include surprising improvement in core muscle groups from balancing, which improve your posture, and upper body strength as well, giving you an all over workout. But the best bit is it’s also fun, which means it keeps your mind busy while your body does all the work, so your more likely to keep it up long term.

Reasons why Golf is the best sport

Reasons why Golf is the best sport

Golf is such a versatile game. Arguments all over the world take place day-in day-out over which sport is the best with everyone believing their sport is the best of them all. Ultimately it comes down to a matter of opinion.
Etiquette
Golf is known for its un – written rules like never walking on your playing partners’ putting lines, shaking hands at the end of each round, and the way everyone in the group gets together to help look for strayed golf balls. The game teaches good manners and respect, and this is something we should be very proud of as golfers.
There’s plenty of different formats
You can play medal, stableford, texas-scramble, foursomes, greensomes, the list goes on. There are so many different ways to score and enjoy your golf meaning that it never gets boring.
Versatility
Golf is such a versatile game. You can play on your own or with up to three of your mates at one time.
Join a Community
You can compete with anyone despite contrasting abilities
Thanks to the handicap system, golfers of all different abilities can compete against one another on a level playing field. You can compete against a professional, what other sport can you do that in without a blindfold or a weapon.
Different ways of transporting your clubs
There are various ways of transporting your clubs. Most golfers carry, use a trolley, or a buggy but you can even transport them on a GolfBoard.
No age limit
Tiger Woods started playing when he was two, and the world’s oldest golfer is 103. Every club has its senior section and every club has its junior section. Golf is enjoyed by people of all different ages which is unseen in most other sports.
You can play as a team or an individual
Golf is commonly played as an individual game but can be played as a team event in all sorts of different varieties. You can have teams of any number: pairs, three-balls, fourballs or 12-man Ryder Cup style teams.
No round of golf is ever the same
If you’re a member of a golf club you’ll inevitably have been asked by your non-golfing companions “don’t you get bored of playing the same course over and over again?” Well the answer is always no. The conditions are never the same, the company is never the same, and your golf is certainly never the same. Every single round of golf is different and that’s why we love it and keep coming back to it.
Exercise
Whilst it’s not the most physically demanding sport out there, many forget that golfers walk over six miles on an average 18-hole round. That’s up hill, down hill, on sand, in thick rough and through all sorts of different terrains. We’ve all sprinted back to the tee in a medal like Usain Bolt when we’ve lost our tee shot – great exercise.

10 Reasons Why Photography is a Great Hobby
New Post has been published on https://www.hobbynetworking.com/blog/unique-hobby/
10 Reasons Why Photography is a Great Hobby
People start doing photography (versus taking snaps or selfies) for many reasons. It might be a major life event coming up – new baby, wedding, special birthday – or that overseas trip saved up for over many years. It might be that the capabilities of your phone frustrate you enough to want to get real about photography. However it happens, suddenly you find yourself with an empty bank account and some form of camera gear that you now need to figure out how and where and maybe even, why to use it. 1. Recording events and capturing memories 2. Have fun 3. Learning is good for the brain 4. Health and fitness 5. Creativity 6. Travel 7. Meet new people 8. Join a photographic community 9. Develop a personal style 10. It’s all about the light
Photography
#1 Recording events and capturing memories Photography allows you to create images of events, times, and places. To both record what happened and allow you to share them with friends and family, either in digital format or more permanently with prints or photo books. By being able to capture a special moment in time, you carry the memory of that event forward with you.
#2 Have fun So much fun can be had with a camera. You could be out with the family at the beach or a picnic, local sports games, randomly roaming your city streets photographing strangers without them noticing, stalking wildlife, hiking up a mountain for a stunning view, or standing under the stars at 2 a.m. watching the Milky Way slowly move across the heavens.
Photography
#3 Learning a new skill is good for your brain Research has shown that learning a new skill helps the brain and improves memory, and the more difficult the skill, the more improvement you get. Coupled with exercise, these two things are considered important for long-term brain health and neuro plasticity.
Photography
#4 Health and fitness Getting out of the house, walking about, or even hiking is often a side-effect of getting into photography. If you are into landscapes then you have to go to where the landscape scenes are, and that often means some form of exercise. Once you have enough camera gear – likely a body, some lenses, and a tripod – it can weigh a reasonable amount and you will need a bag of some kind to carry it comfortably if you are traveling any reasonable distance.
Photography
#5 Creativity In her book, “Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear”, Elizabeth Gilbert writes a great deal about creativity and inspiration. She says it is good for us as individuals, and that the world is a better place for having art in it. That feeling when you finally get the awesome sunrise photo or the perfect candid, maybe the aurora or a meteor shower, or whatever your passion is, that feeling when you finally get the image, makes it all worthwhile.
Photography
#6 Travel Traveling to different parts of your own city or country, and if you are lucky enough to afford it, other parts of the world is a likely outcome of taking up photography. There is so much interesting stuff to photograph in other places including landscapes, wildlife, architecture, and people from other cultures.
Photography
#7 Meet new people Meeting interesting new people in your travel and adventures is often an unintended side effect. Asking the locals for advice on how to find the way to a certain viewpoint may lead to them showing you the way. Chance encounters with people curious as to what you might be photographing can lead to directions to other points of interest. Maybe you organize a meetup with local photo enthusiasts in your area and you make a new friend, a new adventure buddy.
Photography
#8 Join a photographic community Being part of the photography community can be very supportive. Sharing your passion with other people around the world, who speak your language, understand your challenges, and have had similar experiences can very helpful. Online forums can be good places to find those secret local waterfall spots, where certain rare birds might be nesting or come to feed. Join our community
#9 Develop a personal style There are many different types and styles of photography. Some people prefer to label things, put them into boxes and tell you that you have to fit within their preconceived ideas. Rubbish! One of the great joys of photography is its ability to be adapted to every individual’s desires, needs, or preferred style.
Photography
#10 It’s all about the light Whatever light you have at any given moment is the light you need to work with. Modification of the light might be required – it may need filtering, shaping or diffusing. You might need special gear to adapt to certain light conditions. Content Taken From DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SCHOOL

Yoga

Yoga is a collection of spiritual, physical and mental practices that has its origins in ancient India, speculated to have arisen during the pre-Vedic period. In past, Yoga was practiced as part of our everyday lives. Over the time it lost its sense. Today, with many centers and the government’s initiative there is more awareness about the practice of Yoga and the positives of it. Why should a student take this up? Helps to maintain health and fitness. Increases concentration. Clears mind from all distraction. Helps to control the emotions.

Real Freedom is Born at Sea!
New Post has been published on https://www.hobbynetworking.com/blog/yacht/
Real Freedom is Born at Sea!
Yacht is a recreational boat or ship. The term originates from the Dutch word jacht “hunt”, and was originally defined as a light fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch navy to pursue pirates and other transgressors around and into the shallow waters of the Low Countries. After its selection by Charles II of England as the vessel to carry him to England from the Netherlands for his restoration in 1660 it came to be used to mean a vessel used to convey important persons.
In modern use of the term, yachts differ from working ships mainly by their leisure purpose. There are two different classes of yachts: sailing and power boats. With the rise of the steamboat and other types of powerboat, sailing vessels in general came to be perceived as luxury, or recreational vessels. Later the term came to encompass large motor boats for primarily private pleasure purposes as well.
Yacht lengths normally range from 10 metres (33 ft) up to dozens of meters (hundreds of feet). A luxury craft smaller than 12 metres (39 ft) is more commonly called a cabin cruiser or simply a cruiser. A superyacht generally refers to any yacht (sail or power) above 24 m (79 ft) and a megayacht generally refers to any yacht over 50 metres (164 ft). This size is small in relation to typical cruise liners and oil tankers.

Unique and very passionable hobby is Playing to Golf

Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible.
Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not utilize a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. The game at the highest level is played on a course with an arranged progression of 18 holes, though recreational courses can be smaller, often 9 holes. Each hole on the course must contain a tee box to start from, and a putting green containing the actual hole or cup (4.25 inches in width). There are other standard forms of terrain in between, such as the fairway, rough (long grass), sand traps, and hazards (water, rocks, fescue) but each hole on a course is unique in its specific layout and arrangement.
Golf is played for the lowest number of strokes by an individual, known as stroke play, or the lowest score on the most individual holes in a complete round by an individual or team, known as match play. Stroke play is the most commonly seen format at all levels, but most especially at the elite level.
