Much has been written about eleanor but flint’s inner child eroticism web fascinates me so much. The fact that he first blushes from thomas when he’s showing kindness to a lower class boy. Or that he first develops his psychosexual fixation on the hamiltons in response to witnessing their loving and genuine partnership as a couple. “There was something about the way she talked about thomas that was really really sexy.” And the heart eyes when he watches them interact in the study together. Or when he returns from nassau and miranda says “welcome home” and she’s not really referring to London. And the fact that he wanted to move to nassau with them. AND his most precious and guarded memory is thomas reading in bed to him after they first have sex. When we see mrs. hudson reading in bed to her kids after she’s reunited with them. And of course his tantrum over miranda reading meditations to richard guthrie while he’s in bed. You know why I’m upset. For reading to him? Why’d you have to read him that one. But first and before all. I was Mother.
#honestly I think that’s a big part of why he’s so accepting of eleanor’s messiness#a subconscious ‘oh you too huh?’#black sails

Intrigued by the ppl who think flint being alive for TI must mean that he can’t have the achilles meeting patroclus in the underworld metaphor or that silver’s narration pov can’t be distorted. girl he can be alive and it can still be all of those things. And more!!
#I think flint being alive is the most holistic ending in terms of encompassing all the possible metaphors and interpretations#as well as having the most structurally and thematic continuity#AND functionally acting as the TI prequel it was always going to be#basically it’s complete .#anyway this reminds me of the ppl arguing about whether he’s Odysseus OR achilles as if this isn’t Mr. Duality we’re talking about#he’s both. there are layers. it’s a death and a rebirth. he returned to where he started but at a higher level. hope that helps#black sails

@catalpa-waltz no i agree that's part of the point of the finale for sure, im just extrapolating out into the missing time between 1716 and 1750-whatever when billy bones finds him from a TI perspective, if we consider it as a prequel we know he gets out eventually.
maybe flint retiring from the revolution/pirating seems disappointing if you don't realize he's been doing performance art which channels truth but is still performance nonetheless and even though he's done wearing those specific wigs he'll just do another costume change outside of the story and continue on as he is channeling some other truth because you can't take art of the artist no matter what that's all
#but as a way to wrap up the black sails story. i agree with that take#it kind of fits into oglethorpe's whole spiel and what's said right before he walks in the gates#and its also why i see it as a relatively happy ending#it's the best outcome for that type of character in that type of story and tbh. it's a natural conclusion to his arc too#black sails

i'm so pleased that the nonalcoholic beer market has really seem to taken off (at least where i am) bc when i first started drinking NA beers, the selection was terrible, what did exist was bad, and there was no joy in it. you'd walk to a section in the store, pick the only item they had, and then regret buying it later.
but now!!! now there's choices!! there's variety!! there's IPAs and malt beers and mexican beers and american beers and Guinness and name brand beers as well instead of just smaller indie brands. and not only is there variety, there's regional variety! the world of NA beer used to be so small that i'd talk with people about it and no matter where you were (in the US) the conversation was largely the same. but now people have local beers!
anyway this makes me happy because beer companies have finally figured out that NA beer has a market beyond people like me, who are strictly sober. i always knew the market existed, but for the first time i know people who are avid beer fans who text me and tell me that they really enjoy some of the new NA beers. that they would buy them again, that they like the variety, etc. which is phenomenal, because i've always really enjoyed the world of alcohol but i think for a long time NA drinks and beers were viewed as a "novelty" item. but now there's people who realize that these drinks can be profitable, they can interesting, and they can be for anyone, regardless of how much alcohol someone might normally consume.
honestly i really commend one specific brand, which is Heineken, for pushing their 0.0 beer really hard, investing into the marketing of it, investing into the product of it, and treating the drink itself with respect. they're the first company to put a nonalcoholic beer into a superbowl commercial, their marketing was all over Formula 1 races, etc.
i am so excited and so curious to see what people come up with in the future beyond just beer, but it's also really cool to have seen in real time how NA drinks have become more popular and widely accepted.

in the united states the right wing rise has been the result of actual decades in the making lmao. that's how reform works in a liberal democracy if you don't like it then idk. go read some other ideology and get disillusioned in another way
