OP cuts open honeycombs for stress relief (people in the comments are arguing it's probably not real honeycombs. A beekeeper blogger said the comb looks way too perfect, too even in color and texture, totally man-made.)

BEE HOLDER HONEYCOMB TRINKET SHELF THING TUTORIAL
Step one: making hexagons
Take your tube and squish it completely flat. Taking a ruler, measure the with of your flattened tube and divide it into thirds. You can copy this on the back of the tube too if you want, but after you fold along those lines, you should have six creases and therefore a hexagon! Cut your now hexagonal tubes in half.

Now it’s honeycomb time!

Glue two together. Pritt stick is fine and it’s good to squish them flat while the glue is drying. Then add a third! You’re gonna wanna glue two sides and make a little sandwich.

If you can get the hang of this, adding more will be easy.
Next, stick it to a backing. I just hot glue it to some cardboard.

It’s best to paint it before cutting it out just on a keeping-your-hands-clean level.
Then yeah. You just cut it out and stick it up. That’s it. Enjoy! And definitely tag me if you make this!

Spookie Jar #15: Honey Bee
Started: November 4, 2024
Finished: November 8, 2024
I don't think I'll ever stop sculpting; much like writing, it's a very important passion in my life. It's one more way for me to express myself.
Even so, as you've already seen, my personal collection is pretty full. I have so much space, and I'll probably have even less once I'm eventually able to start renting my own place. (And that's not even mentioning how much of a struggle it'll be to move all my pieces and keep them intact. God help me whenever that happens.)
So, taking some advice from my grandfather, I've recently decided to start a new personal trend: leaving my sculptures out in public. And when they're found, passersby can feel free to take them home if they like. Yes, I'll be leaving out things other than Spookie Jars. I just so happened to have finished this one when I decided to try this out.
As shown in the pictures, I'll be leaving notes with the pieces to give context and care instructions. (Yeah, I know it's just colorful distorted font. I haven't settled on a logo for my work just yet; I'll try to make one in the future.)
This also serves as my very first insect-based sculpture! That's why I made it a honey bee, because this planet legitimately needs them to survive and SOME PEOPLE REALLY NEED TO GET THAT THROUGH THEIR SKULLS.
Much like the Vampire Bat jar, the process of attaching the wings to the base gave me all kinds of hell. Getting the antennae to stay stable was a whole other challenge in itself.

Bees, honey, and honeycomb themed storage box. I think it's perfect for any room... Perhaps bathroom for towels, or a bee themed nursery?
Box is bamboo that has been hand painted and decorated.

i need to make a shoutout post for the ioway tribe's bee farm products right now
esp this:
Tumblr media
THE LOTION BAR.
why do i love it so much? bc it repels mosquitos WAY BETTER THAN BUG SPRAY. Not only does it make ur skin smell like honey, it forms a waxy seal that buggy chompers cant bite through.
it also soothes bug bites, rashes, and itchy skin.
my partner has the Yummy Blood that mosquitos find irresistable. we tried so many repellents, the wristbands, the candles... nothing seemed to keep them away. out of curiosity and desperation, we tried this lotion bar and the results have been life-changing for us. it is EXCEPTIONAL.
if u or someone u know is bug bait, i cannot recommend this tribe's beeswax bar enough. please support native businesses, ditch the bug spray. this stuff works, and smells, way way way better than anything else.
Not to mention they have REALLY GOOD HONEY.
