General PSA's for begginer alt crafting
- superglue heats up when in contact with fiber, your craft can start smoking or even catch on fire
- you can wash clothing painted with acrylic paint in the washing machine if you turn it inside out and use the lowest temperature
- don't put painted clothes in the dryer.
- you can wash clothes with metal bits in the washing machine but use the handwashing setting, dry the metal bits with a paper towel before hanging them to dry, and know that it WILL be loud
- synthetic dye is needed to dye synthetic fibers and requires a long time simmering in a boiling pot. This WILL stink up the house and you NEVER want to make food in that pot again
- faux leather is vinyl not leather. Get vinyl paint to paint on it
- don't use your teeth as tools, they don't regenerate. Reconstructing enamel costs a small fortune (ask me how I know.)
- when handsewing a lot through thick fabric get thin needles, it will require less force and be less taxing on your wrists. When machine sewing get a higher grade needle (~130 for jean)
- embroidery floss is overpriced and not as strong as it looks. For sewing on heavy stuff get denim thread, it will last forever
- don't feed a 60$ home sewing machine ten layers of denim before you learn how much a servicing fee costs, these things are dellicate
- spray paint is best applied from 30-40cm away, in swift movements. Putting too much or applying from too close will cause drips. You can sand them down and apply a new layer of paint AFTER they dry. Wipe the can nozzle after painting if it's messy, you don't want it to clog and become unusable
- water based markers on fabric will bleed, if not instantly then with time, alcohol markers will fade with time
- most fabric glues are machine washable up to a certain temperature. modgepodge is not waterproof, hitack is handwash only. Check the instructions
- the flatter the surface the easier hot glue will peel off. Faux leather stands no chance, fibers like yarn will hold it best, but is impossible to remove the glue from them in the future
- rivets are a thing that exists, only require a hammer to install and can be used as permanent fabric attachment
- studs, gromets and other metal junk at small fabric stores are laughably overspriced
- acetone (found in nail polish remover) will remove acrylic stains out of furniture, flooring and faux leather, if used in excess can damage the laquer. Can also be used to remove prints and glue off of plastic (do a small test before commiting, might melt the plastic it it's grade is low)
- residue from stickers (and k-tape) can be removed with oil
- acrylic stains cannot be removed out of clothing or carpet so protect your area before painting and don't wear clothes you care about
- if your thread keeps getting tangled or snagging while handsewing try waxing it
- you can lock in screw-in spikes with screw lock glue if you're scared of them falling off because they unscrew
- you can add washers to screw-in spikes if you're scared of them falling through flimsy fabric or too big of a hole
- if you're making anything out of soda cans have a metal file on hand, they are deceptively sharp and will hurt you and rip through fabric you're installing them in
- bleach can be found in mold killing spray (don't touch that shit with bare hands. chemical burn.)
- fabric paints are no different from slightly dilluted acrylic. You can make it yourself by adding a bit of fabric softener to acrylic or honestly even water
- if you are setting anything with an iron use parchment paper or a pressing cloth to pervent your stuff from sticking to your iron and ruining it
- if you want a safety pin somewhere permanently pinch it shut with pliers
- as much as you can, avoid putting glue on clothing, it makes it really hard to change your decisions later on and upcycle the project in the future
- kiss your friends

If YouTube’s new AI flags you as “underage” and asks for an ID or your face, DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM.
Uninstall the app. Close the browser. Leave a 1 star review on the App Store and/or Google Play Store. Call them if you can, and don’t email as there aren’t any humans that see those.
Let them know that this new policy unfairly targets gamers, those with autism, those who watch cartoons, etc. It was never about protecting the kids.

"What radicalized you?"
Nothing.
I've just always held that fascism is bad and that all people deserve basic respect and human rights, along with food, healthcare, housing, and civil liberties.
And somewhere along the line, that became a radical opinion.

something about how censorship and capitalism are so closely intertwined. that the slow push of right-wing conservative ideals are closely mirrored by corporate rebranding. how fast fashion restyles "femininity" into ever-more-modest aesthetics. how sydney sweeney can say my jeans are blue in a re-formatting of an advertisement that originally featured a child; but meanwhile corporations are halting DEI initiatives in their tracks.
but okay. i can't say fuck in my instagram poetry, that's fine. it always bothers me when a content creator changes their closed captions to a different word - HOH/deaf communities aren't composed of infants, and can read a swear word without fainting. but you have to censor if you don't want to get shadowbanned.
can't make a video about a person who is being violent, abusive. but the president of the united states can literally say whatever he wants, forever. you can't even really say that you think the president is a pedophile - pedophile is a word that the AI will flag.
marx wrote about how capitalism alienates us from ourselves and from others. social media continues to enhance that alienation, and now there is another layer happening - one where The Corporation gets to decide how we talk/think/interact. (don't even fucking get me started on how tumblr loves to see trans people as a threat.)
books are getting published that include the "word" unalive. this gives you a strange disassociation for a moment; feeling like 1984 exists in the real life. is this for maximum profit? but also - who could possibly be seeking out a book where violence takes place but is also the type of person who does not want to name the violence? is that even a significant portion of society - someone who wants to read the hunger games but, like, without all the child killing and anti-capitalist critique. or maybe, who knows. that fucking post about how disco elysium should be about a witch.
you watch as the late night show gets cancelled because god forbid anyone critique The Corporation. in the past year, you've watched media slowly back down from "making a stand" into bland everybody-wins gruel. you've watched plenty of corporations switch from saying (in rainbow font) "we'll always protect our FAMILY" to saying, "we value differences, but you're not a right fit for our team". in job interviews, HR is forced to talk around their policy, not wanting to specifically say identity. it's eerie.
one of the first rules of resisting fascism is "do not obey in advance."
and what is the next step anyway? will ticketmaster stop selling tickets for concerts that use swear words? will mastercard no longer cover art sales for any form of nudity, regardless of the context? god forbid there be violence in your violent video games. god forbid a person interacts with anything, ever, that might make them uncomfortable in any small way.
it reminds me of how the rest of life has also become less colorful (literally). how you need to keep your car pristine and undamaged with no bumper stickers, what if you resell it. how you'll never afford a house, so your apartment is a palatable resell-value grey. how you don't even own the tv you enjoy.
it's just - it's not enough that capitalism controls what i eat and where i go and what i do. these days, the terrible white & bloated body of capitalism is shoving his hands down my throat and holding my tongue. i need to be a brand, somehow. i, as a person existing on this site, need to reflect the brand ideals of this site.
they need to make a buck off of me, somehow.

Despair might be reasonable, but that doesn't make it right. Fight on, because it's the noble and the decent and the best thing to do. Fight on, because there is nothing else worth doing, besides being good to each other. Fight on, because miraculous things happen, sometimes, when you look the world in its dead and broken eyes and say, "I will not stop trying to be kind."
Even beyond hope, there is determination and strength to be found. Cynisism will not save you, it will not protect you, it will not keep you from getting hurt. But if you stand up and say, "I will be kind and just and fair, I will care for my friends and fight for what I need," you will, if nothing else, add a spark of something good to the world around you and to your own life.
And sometimes--not always, but sometimes-- that spark will flame up into something you never could have predicted or imagined. Sometimes the people around you only need a little push to start fighting, imagining, building, changing, and growing alongside you. The best antidote to hopelessness is to start trying to fix things, and the second-best is to watch someone else try.
And sometimes, your actions won't meaningfully change anything, won't do anything but give you a little bright spot in your own life, before being snuffed out again. But that's alright. Beautiful things are not less beautiful for being small.

remember kids, this pride month, and all the others: pride is still a riot, and always will be until every human can live, love, and simply exist without having to fight for it or hide themselves to stay safe.

Idgaf if you don't want to write essays for school. I don't care if you don't want to write corporate emails yourself. I don't care if you can't draw well, I don't care if you can't write well, I don't care if you just really really want to talk to your favorite fictional character but don't want to RP with a real person because you have social anxiety or whatever
If you're still regularly using generative ai, chatgpt or midjourney or character.ai or literally whatever the fuck, im personally blaming you when my utility prices start going up.

The back panel of baby's first battle jacket is complete 🍅🏴☀️ Hand painted design plus some storebought iron on letters I eventually had to just sew on individually. @_@
Now to add some patches and spikes...

what does your blog title mean?
can remember the exact translation but its basically latin for do no harm take no shit
think the literal translation of how its written is "do no harm to others, but do not suffer it silently", although while that translation came with a breakdown of translated word meaning, it did come from reddit so grain of salt I guess?
