This time, Mari nodded a bit more seriously. “Yes.”
The AI swept a hand to her side, where a few more holoscreens popped up. GDI society was surprisingly open with information even to newcomers, it seemed.
“In the course of its existence, the Galactic Defense Initiative has encountered several ongoing threats. Some have been dealt with, some have not.”
Three files opened, all labeled “Defunct”. The Dark Brotherhood, the Zephyr Cartel and the Resurgence, all originating from one universe.
A few more screens opened around Homura, detailing the more active threats GDI was dealing with in the current age.
Containment of a hostile race known as the Orks. The few remaining pirate bands still foolish or crazy enough to continue their work. The organization known as the First Order. A similar but unrelated group calling themselves the Scorpion’s Hand.
Though it didn’t seem like much, it seemed that GDI was utterly committed to putting themselves on the line to protect the wider multiverse from them. At the very least, things were being quietly prepared to swiftly decapitate the Scorpion’s Hand and then obliterate them with the utmost efficiency.
Given the galaxy-spanning nature of the Initiative compared to the much smaller Scorpion’s Hand, it seemed to be overkill. Then again, if the history of threats from that universe was any indication, it was justifiable overkill.
Tumblr media
“Hm...” Perhaps this was out of her league. Far more than she was used to back in Japan. At least the GDI appears to handle this threat better than she can since they know much about them.
These strange, alien creatures look absolutely chaotic. Then there’s the organizations. Might be trouble running into them. Again, best to let these guys handle them.
“Thank you for answering my questions.” Homura said with a bow. “I hope those requests weren’t too much for you, miss Mari.”
The Galactic Defense Initiative's city of Academia was highly visible even from a distance. The gleaming starscrapers and floating habitat-cities, glowing with haptic light seemed to beckon to the average traveler. One of Terra Hope's most advanced cities, it was a popular tourist destination after Astrid's Temple.
Tumblr media
Seeing the futuristic environment, already it felt like a great departure from the neighborhood surrounding Astrid’s Temple. Heck, it’s far more advanced than her hometown. It’s impressive in its own right. Homura traversed down the streets, taking in all the sights that she can. “So this is what Astrid meant. I wonder if I can find some of her troops here.” A god needing an army seems unnecessary unless she factored in the cursed lands she mentioned.

Send “Examine!” and an item or person and I’ll write an RPG description of it/them.
(For example, a stormtrooper mask:
“A white mask with a black visor on the front. Putting it on, you realise that the visor isn’t even transparent. How are you expected to do anything competently like this?”)

If our characters have never or barely interacted send ✌and I'll say how I'd think they get along.
Perhaps add some scenarios or different ways they might get along whether it be friends, enemies, or anything else.

Once again, Mari nodded in the affirmative.
“Indeed, miss Akemi. As an galactic and multiversal peacekeeping organization, the Galactic Defense Initiative oversees interstellar relations, and is primarily responsible for ensuring the peace and prosperity of civilizations throughout the Milky Way galaxy, along with that of its allies in the Coalition.”
A miniature display of the Milky Way appeared near the AI’s shoulder height, with GDI’s authority seemingly covering quite a noticeably large amount of the galaxy while overlaying several other patches of color, signifying the other interstellar powers it appeared to hold sway over.
“To date, the Initiative encompasses over 300 sophont spacefaring species, as well as forged strong alliances with other interstellar nations, both in its native universe as well as those of the Coalition’s members.”
“Owing to Terra Hope’s unique local conditions, accurate time is rather malleable in interpretation within this system. The anchor time in the Initiative’s native universe is 17 May, 2471 CE.”
Tumblr media
2471? Man, that’s so distant from the time period she came from. That explains why Academia looks so different and so advanced. Since the Initiative seems so invested in the affairs of other societies in other worlds, Homura was tempted to ask more.
“Are there any threats this Initiative faces outside those of Terra Hope?” Now you’re just asking for classified info, you nerd.

Mari nodded. “Indeed. The Archives have multiple indexes dedicated to exo-biology. Terra Hope’s local index is here.”
With a gesture, the holoscreen displaying the wider Archives changed to show the creatures native to Terra Hope.
Most seemed straight out of a D&D game, with orcs, kobolds, demons, undead and the like. Though the Initiative had noted that for some reason, the creatures which were hostile to most people were displaying a curious level of organisation for creatures like them. Almost
Within the borders of the major cities, one was safe, but outside of them it was a gamble, especially if one traveled on the ground.
Thus far, none of the hostile creatures had attacked an Initiative citizen or Academia itself, but it was best to keep safe.
Those sophont species living on Terra Hope mostly belonged to member species of the Initiative or the wider Coalition. Most were humanoid, but some were definitely different.
Machine races also made up a significant portion of those living here, notably.
Tumblr media
Those creatures hostile to people showed some signs of organization. It is odd, considering what Astrid said earlier. Still, it’s dangerous to go beyond the cities as evidenced in the data. Much of the information is fascinating to look at.
“Does the Initiative handle issues that are not from Terra Hope?”

“A common misconception, miss Akemi,” Mari replied, shifting to her left as a holoscreen opened up. “The Archives are actually a free-access information network and repository. Some have referred to it colloquially as a galactic codex.”
The holoscreen displayed several tabs, all with a dizzying array of subjects all marked by specific icons. Science, technology, society, interstellar polities, the Initiative itself, and much more.
In essence, it was a much larger version of humanity’s Internet in the early 21st century.
“Is there anything else you would wish to know? Do be advised that should you desire to explore Academia fully, there are subterranean portions of the city as well.”
To illustrate Mari’s point, a smaller version of the earlier city map formed, revealing that just as Academia’s structures soared into the sky, so too did the city extend beneath the surface to form an equally bustling underground complex.
Tumblr media
Seems this city is much more complex than she initially thought. It might be easy for her to get lost without the city map handy. But the codex was far more intriguing. Homura raised her finger to touch the holoscreen on the left. Before she could touch it, she stopped. What would she be looking for anyway? Interstellar polities? The Initiative?
“Is there a bestiary in the codex?” Surely, it must have some data on whatever non-sapient creatures roam this planet. It’d be smart to get acquainted with them in case of an accidental encounter with the nastier ones Astrid mentioned.

“Likewise.” Mari replied, smiling brightly.
“I presume this is your first time in an Initiative city, am I right? If so, allow me to introduce the basics of Academia.”
With a gesture, a multi-layered 3D map of the city appeared. A portion blinked green, likely where they currently were.
“You’re currently in Armali Square, the primary entry for most visitors. Food and entertainment districts are located here, as are essential services. Be aware that the Initiative does not use currency of any sort. Any and all items you desire are yours upon request at any public replicator station.”
A neat and cleanly designed hard light interface appeared around Homura, conveniently placed at an easily accessible height.
“At any time, you may access this map of Academia, find directions to locations as well as communicate publicly with local citizens or myself. The Initiative Archives are also accessible should you wish to learn about the Initiative itself and it’s many aspects.”
Mari laced her hands behind her back. “Should you be curious about anything, please do not hesitate to call upon me.”
Tumblr media
Homura observed the 3D map as Mari explained its functions. Then came the hard light interface. It’s a convenience to be able to summon it at any time during her stay. Though...
“Are the Archives your version of the library? May I get directions for that place?”

Alien races walking alongside humans, flying cars and floating structures... Truly, this place felt like something out of a video game. Or an anime. But it’s so real. Homura was taking all this in with her own eyes.
The sudden appearance of the AI nearly caught her off guard. Did she say “superintendent?” Homura attempted to regain her composure and bowed back.
“Hello. My name is Homura Akemi. It is nice to meet you, too.” Talk about a first impression.

“Thank you.” She bowed, before following the clergy out of the temple.
What a strange place. It looked nothing like Mitakihara at all. In fact, it's kind of dizzying. The only thing that stood out to her was the massive temple. If she could just get her bearings, she'd be back on track. Better get researching, then. She approached several citizens. "Where am I?"
Perhaps as Homura investigated she’d notice that this city had a dizzying array of different species that wandered here, human and non-human.  Out of the humans, many of the women were unusually tall and muscular.
One of the citizens answered, “You a new arrival? You’re in Larstern, capital city of this planet, Terra Hope.  You’ll probably want to speak to Lady Astrid.  You can find her in the temple.”

This all seemed so incomprehensible to her. Maybe she needed another dose of sleep as this exposition is giving her a headache. Or maybe... she needed to start small. Then she might be able to understand more about the mechanics behind the Empire.
“If it does not bother you, where can I learn more about this? It seems much to take in all at once.” She meant no offense. And besides, she needed to see such precaution in action.

Something... is counteracting that? What kind of something would counteract Astrid’s power, assuming she has that kind of strength? Incubators? No. They’re not capable of this sort of work, though by technicalities contracted magical girls can be a type of zombie. A part of her wanted to find out for herself, but it might be dangerous. And if she died, well... Who’s going to stop Walpurgisnact? Madoka? She’ll witch out. Nope, Homura must live.
“I see.” She responded. “By VR, you mean to say virtual reality, yes? How do you even attain that level with your troops?”

So not only people get displaced from worlds, creatures end up here by accident. Creatures that, from the sound of it, may even be stronger than Walpurgisnacht. It’d be wise to avoid them for now. Though, if one of those things entered Mitakihara, hell would officially be on her earth.
“How do you prepare your soldiers in the case of an attack? Your presence keeps them out of most places except for the towns you mentioned. Is it not possible to extend your range to cover the entire planet and undo the curses on the land?”
