You are hereby cordially invited to the King’s Masquerade Ball on July 1st. Prepare your finest garments and ready yourself for the most splendid night of merriment and excitement; the most exquisite wines across the lands; and the mystique of the Masquerade, in honor of His Majesty’s obscurement; and finally, to celebrate our beloved Masked Lord in all of his glory as he valiantly searches for the fairest hand in all of Avalos to wed and to take in the holiest of matrimonies. One shall do well to put into memory that our benevolent host shall be present for this occasion and that one shall act accordingly, for one shall be under his keen and studious gaze for the whole event. One small misstep might just spell utter disaster and tarnish an otherwise unsoiled reputation of one’s House and self.

All else above, the King desires all who attend to have a splendid and grand experience at his behest and expense!

Introducing the cast

In How not to become a Queen you will meet a varied cast of characters of the court, each with their own agenda.

Robin Esaer

The heroine of the story is a spy from Kingdom of Kyrian, who assumes the identity of lady Robin Esaer, a sickly court lady and one of the candidates for the Queen of Avalos. While her competitors clash over making it all the way to the top, her mission is to obtain as much information about the new King of Avalos for the sake of her own Kingdom.

If she is discovered, well ...

Nicholas Acewryn (love interest)

A royal advisor to the King, Nicholas holds the key to all relevant information about the Kingdom of Avalos and the new King. A shrewd politician and a capable strategist, he has little patience for fools or martyrs alike.

He might be Robin’s greatest ally …

If she proves her worth.

Grey Mauntell (love interest)

To many sir Grey Mauntell is known as the Sword of the King, whose steadfast loyalty to the Kingdom of Avalos makes him one of the more dangerous people to encounter. If you are an enemy, that is. Her cares little for politics, but he is aware of more than he lets on.

To lady Robin Esaer, he is a man from her past, one she did not expect to see again. The question remains: will loyalty or love prevail?

Siin, no last name

Siin is a fellow Kyrian and the heroine’s partner on the mission. Currently, he is portraying the butler of Esaer family who is to accompany lady Robin Esaer to the court of Avalos. While he excels in almost all tasks required of a butler, one should never forget he is a spy first and utmost.

Siin’s one job is to ensure the successful completion of the mission, come hell or high water.

Emma Seymour

Lady Emma Seymour is a daughter of the Seymour family, one of the wealthiest and most influential houses in the Kingdom of Avalos. She is one of the top candidates in the competition for the crown, but her heart yearns for true love instead.

How not to become a Queen

The King is dead. Long live the new King.

The whole kingdom is abuzz in anticipation. With a new ruler ascending the throne and no future spouse in sight, the main aristocratic houses are ready for a bloody battle. Unmarried ladies have already been called to court, armoured with silk, gossip and daggers.

All is fair in love and war, after all.
