Beyer Garratt 6029 In Action, 2015 - 2018

6029 was built by Beyer, Peacock & Co Ltd of Manchester, United Kingdom in 1953 for the New South Wales Government Railways.

The locomotive was restored by the Canberra Railway Museum, so was named "City of Canberra" for a period.

Steam Locomotives in Action - 2020

My annual look back at the steam action I enjoyed last year.

As can be expected, 2020 was a very quiet year.  The hero being 5917, which powered "The Picnic Train" between Sydney & Kiama on many occasions late in the year. 3801 also made appearances on test runs.  Hopefully 2021 will be its year.

#5917 Returns North

Steam locomotive 5917 operating a one way transfer trip back to the Hunter Valley after operating the season of "Picnic Trains" to Kiama. The Picnic Trains return again in March, after the summer fire season is over.

A Tribute To Steam Locomotive #3642

#3642 in action between 01 March 2015 until it's "retirement" tour on 01July 2018 

Events captured  include: Great Train Race Sydney, Thirlmere Festival of Steam, Hunter Valley Steamfest,  Central Western NSW Tour & Cowan Bank climb.

Built by Clyde Engineering in Sydney, 3642 entered service in 1926 with the New South Wales Government Railways, hauling passenger trains throughout the state.

A Morning At Cowan (NSW)

Trains captured whilst train watching at Cowan. 

Cowan is a railway station on the Main North Railway Line, approximately 49km from Sydney’s Central Station.

Whilst previously the final stop for suburban trains (now terminating at Berowra the station prior), Cowan is now a stop for Central Coast/Newcastle trains, generally hourly. 

The bells for the footpath crossing give you warning of trains about to pass. This footpath also forms part of the “Great North Walk”, so many hikers use the station to join/leave the walk.

My First Steam Trip for 2020

Lachlan Valley Railway's steam loco 5917 back in action after the lifting of COVID restrictions. First, the train arriving at Central is captured, led by diesel 4716, with 5917 idling on the rear. Once onboard, we have the train departing Central, passing Redfern, passing through the Illawarra Dive and on to Erskineville.

After a long drought, mainline steam is back in New South Wales

Steam Locomotive 5917 shunts around it's train at Central before departing with "The Picnic Train" to Kiama and return.

Historic Train, Historic Day

Farewell Carlingford Line - F1 Electric Set Specials

On the last full day of operation, the historic F1 single deck electric set operated a number of special runs between Carlingford & Clyde. 

Trips in both directions are captured at both Dundas and Camellia, including a unique "under train view" Saturday, 04 January, 2020

Last days of Sydney's Carlingford Line.

The last train will depart at 1.15am, Sunday 05 January.

Most of the line will be duplicated and converted to be part of the Parramatta Light Rail, scheduled to open in 2023.

In this video, a cab ride from Clyde (where connection is made with Western Line services east to Strathfield & Sydney and west to Parramatta, Penrith & the Blue Mountains) through to the Terminus at Carlingford.

German Narrow Gauge Steam

Harzer Schmalspurbahnen

The  Steam Locomotive hauled trip on the narrow (1,00mm) gauge Harzer Schmalspurbahnen, with the train departing from Wernigerode and heads uphill towards Drei Annen Hohne on the “Harzquerbahn” (Trans Harz Railway) This is a collaboration video with my friend @Howie’s Rail Videos The loco was #99 236, built by VEB Lokomotivbau “Karl Marx” Babelsberg ,1954-56.

Captured near the town of Nyngan. The QUBE service is “topped & tailed” by two locos to remove the need for run round en-route.

Montréal-Ouest, the 2nd stop from Montreal’s Lucien-L’Allier Terminus on the (former) Canadian Pacific main line. It sees services from lines exo1 Vaudreuil–Hudson, exo2 Saint-Jérôme & exo4 Candiac lines.

Sydney Light Rail

Sydney's first modern tram line / light rail service at Central Station. It will soon be joined by Line 2, which will call at Central, adjacent but below on street level. 

Line 1 is operated by a fleet of 12 CAF Urbos 3 vehicles.
