mulciber names + snape gang help

im looking into snape gang, ive always been interested in them and never really sat down with them fully anything for beginners (omg it sounds like a lecture or smth) on mulciber or even group dynamics (fic recs welcome!!)

anyway point of this, is that mulciber dearest, commonly shipped with sev, does not have a first name? ive heard seth, aurum malvolio and wolfric all before,

so my questions are; which name is commonly used by fandom or which do you prefer and why?

my breakdown for it and potential headcanons incoming (lemme know how much this interferes with collective fanon or even your own personal reading of it, im always so happy to chat abt anything marauders, especially debates!!)

Seth, no personal collection to it a i've heard its from a fanfic of a sort that i ofc have not read. seth x sev sounds funny and a bit of a tongue twsiter. also as a pureblood mass believer this man would be stacked with latin names

aurum, meaning glowing dawn. ive heard this used because of its connection to vulcan (or hephaestus) with fire and armory. i like it for a few reasons lore wise and then just name wise. as a name, the dawn is associated (at least to me) with new beginnings a new rise, a new dawn. i also hear that lion king speech in dream's voice about the sun and kingdom. so very ethereal and kingly befitting for him i'd say. the more convoluted lore section is something you're going to have to trust me on for a bit. aurum and auora are such twin names, so sinistra and him as twins! different last names of course, either due to marriage after hogwarts or more interestingly for me, seperated at birth. with the second narrative i'd say its a sonya (lizzy) and newt situation from the maze runner, lost and never found. however them interacting in the same group and displaying twin behaviour without them knowing is terribly tragic and dramatically ironic.

malvio, wont stay here long because far too close to marvolo for my liking HOWEVER its a shakespeare name and william my dearest namesake deserves all the respect in the history of ever. so. it means ill will, irony at its finest. bonus points if theres a benvolio (good will) in the hogwarts scene at current. these are also italian names and thus mulciber must be italian i wont accept it otherwise.

wolfric. honestly the one im leaning most towards, the most simple the most funny and the most ironic. all because of dearest remus lupin. severus calling his beloved his bestfriend the one that dramatically pines over him while sev believes hes unlovable being called "wolf" as a nickname and remus flinching every god forsaken time it happens is comedy (tragedy?) gold. after 5th year he started calling remus by "wolf" too and mulciber is absolutely betrayed by this fact and will not buy into the "lupin is a werewolf" conspiracy whatsoever, so just very fun stuff with the name wolfric!!

i see a lot of people call imane intersex when actually we don't know if this is fact. if somebody is going off of the failed gender test then you need to know the context around this test:

iba is such a corrupt organization and could have easily just disqualified imane for no reason by using the gender test as a cover-up. the context is very shady. nobody knows if imane is intersex and we don't even really know if she actually has high testosterone because the iba didn't do a testosterone test & she has been able to compete in other tournaments with no mention of her testosterone. we also don't know if she has an XY chromosome. imane has never confirmed any of this. we shouldn't spread misinformation (which i have done as well when i wasn't aware).

people often use snow’s experiences with lucy gray as an explanation for how he engages with katniss, but i think that the true story of his downfall lies not in how lucy gray and katniss are similar, but rather in how they are different.

snow knew that it was never him that made the games what they are. it was lucy gray, with her scrappy, passionate artistry, that put on the show that kept people watching. more importantly, it was lucy gray that put on the show that kept HIM watching. all he ever did was give her the stage.

ergo, snow recognizes that the person with the power to usurp him is his natural counterpart, someone like lucy gray, who possessed both the charisma and humanity that he sorely lacks. however, in his mind, those traits are not real; they’re performed in order to obtain power. how could he know better, when he’s never experienced them himself, and the only person he ever truly believed possessed them betrayed him?

so snow keeps his eye out for performers, people with gravitas who could capture the heart of the nation, and squashes their spark as soon as he can. people like haymitch. people like finnick.

and that’s where snow goes wrong. he doesn’t see katniss’ similarities to lucy gray from the start, because while they both demonstrate astonishing, intriguing bravery at their reapings, their actions and motivations are completely different. lucy gray is motivated to perform by anger for herself, and katniss is motivated to sacrifice herself by fear for her sister.

but then katniss starts to put on a show for the audience, kissing peeta and being willing to die with the berries at the end of the 74th games. snow starts to see an entirely different side of katniss that resembles lucy gray to a concerning degree. he sees how, with peeta at her side, she could beguile the nation the same way lucy gray had. and, even worse, she was using the poor, helpless boy who had the misfortune of falling in love with her to survive. the moment katniss started performing, he finally sees lucy gray within her. but it’s already too late.

by catching fire, katniss is the spark fanning the flames of the resistance, but snow fails to understand why. as far as he’s concerned, katniss’ star power comes from her connection to peeta. he tries to weaponize their “love” for his own gain, but it doesn’t work, not because people don’t believe that she loves peeta, but because, for the first time, a victor offers her winnings to the family of a fallen tribute.

snow is caught in a catch 22 of seneca crane’s making—if he kills katniss, she becomes a martyr. but if he lets her live, she’ll be a revolutionary icon. either way, she’s the spark. so he has no choice but to allow the spark to flicker, just for a little while. enter the 75th games. snow knows he needs katniss to die a tragic death in the games. more specifically, he needs it to be a brutal death at the hands of a tribute, not the gamemakers, because he understands that as long as the districts see the capital as the one who ended the life of katniss everdeen, she’ll still be a martyr.

but snow still doesn’t get it. in the quarter quell, the prey does not become predator. katniss’ allies protect her, ensuring she survives until district 13 rescues her. why would they protect this girl, assuming such a steep personal risk? why would they put everything on the line for a revolution they personally stand to benefit little from? he doesn’t know. but he does know that lucy gray katniss is at the center of it all, so he tries to eliminate what makes her look best: peeta.

and that is snow’s fatal mistake. what he, coin, and everyone but haymitch fail to understand is that it was never peeta that made katniss look good—it was katniss, who befriended and put faith in rue. katniss, who recruited mags, wiress, and beetee as allies. she is the source of revolutionary inspiration. it isn’t her charisma or even her compassion, and it certainly isn’t how well she performed those virtues.

katniss becomes the mockingjay because of her solidarity.

lucy gray was charismatic, like peeta, and compassionate, like both peeta and katniss, but she did not demonstrate solidarity. she was never truly “district” in the way katniss is. she showed kindness to jessup, not because he was from 12, but because he showed kindness to her. lucy gray left behind everything and everyone she loved when she left coriolanus, because she was first and foremost a survivor.

katniss was a survivor her whole life, but she survives exclusively to ensure the people she loves are protected. she always does what she can for people more vulnerable than herself. lucy gray couldn’t have sparked a revolution on her own because she lacked the solidarity that makes a hope for a better future authentic to others. katniss is the human manifestation of solidarity, and to a people divided by a common enemy, that’s the most inspiring thing a person can be.

only in the end, when katniss shoots coin, does snow realize none of it was a performance. choking on the blood of his countless adversaries, snow’s final moments are consumed by what he got wrong. what made lucy gray and katniss different ends his reign, but ironically, the final nail in his coffin is an act that both lucy gray and katniss share in their last moments with snow. they both prove, unequivocally, that he is not the center of their worlds like they are his. lucy gray put her own survival before her love for him, and katniss puts the future of her nation before her hate for him. in the end, he simply doesn’t matter. and that’s greater justice than could have ever have been achieved if katniss had fired her arrow into his heart.

the greatest enemy to coriolanus snow could only be the person who reignited the embers of a dying revolutionary fire, who demonstrated to a broken people that while one spark alone might not be enough, thousands of sparks uniting in solidarity is an unbeatable force.

and really, he should have known better. after all, fire melts snow.

Marauders Midnights, Log 2: Keeper

James knowing that Peter was marked when he became secret keeper.

The fidelious charm requiring no secrets between them. Love and pain are confessed. Deep hollow groves of past love for each other finally said aloud. longing that they'd had their chance in another lifetime. but they're ok now. They're still each other's if not the way their tender young love wishes it was.

Peter having to confess the mark.

James being numb, reality slowly becoming lost as he remembers another boy he loved saying the same words to him under oath. James not making the mistake of running again, refusing to be a coward to himself. He pulls Peter's sleeve up himself, that's when the glassy look in his eyes is replaced with misty tears and strong curse and warm anger instead of hot.

"Dumbledore needed someone on the inside,"

he says,

"I should've told you Jamie, I wish I did. he forbade me to you must understand- I was the least suspec-"

James pulled him to a hug. them fitting together the same way they did as kids, James' taller frame allowing peter to curl into his shoulders, ear above James' heart, it beating slow. They don't talk for a while. Simply holding each other. James' mind is silent for the first time since the war started. he wishes his mind was pacing as it should be, it should be screaming at peter for putting himself in danger, screaming at Dumbledore for asking him to do so, screaming at Voldemort for marking his peter. screaming at himself for letting it happen when he didn't even know. Yet, it's quiet. Hot strong winds of a desert. They continue with the charm. Peter shouts for him, reasoning that he's compromised, and that he wouldn't stand a chance if he came,

"I've seen him, James! I'm a coward- I won't- James please lis-" "Peter."

Their eyes meet. strong and battle-worn and not the eyes of the boys they once were,

"Peter Potter." peter hiccoughs, he's not deserving of that honor anymore. "I trust you."

'For what?' Peter wishes he could scream out, to put which one of our lives first? to keep myself alive and fighting, alive for Dumbledore's orders? or to keep you alive for your family? Peter can only find himself nodding. the vow glows as they seal their secrets under the charm.

"You could've made Sirius your keeper." "You're my keeper, Peter."

Peter snorts,

"And, Sirius said I should put you."

A million thoughts trace through his mind then. a million accusations, a million woes, a million questions.

"I'll do you both well then."

Peter says instead, his jaw clicking.

"You'll do yourself well."

Peter expects a warm chuckle or a bantering tone from James then. But his gaze is hard. Peter cracks underneath it.

Weeks later James still having not told a soul as peter's mark stays under oath as a secret. hears the doors of death open in place of his front door. James' heart breaks, as he places a steely facade over his broken face and shouts to his wife to take harry and leave. James has to hold him off. he doesn't pick up his wand. he's put them here. He'll take the dark lord on with his fists, not out of pride or fear but out of self-sorrow and guilt. He gets a swing on the surprised dark lord before he falls.

"I killed Harry and Lily Potter."

He thinks as his last breath is sucked inwards. The same words spoken by Sirius as he pays for Peter's fall, and the same words are carried true by Peter's cowardly soul.

Marauders Midnights, Log 1: The Potters

Sirius never wearing 'black' on his jerseys in quidditch because he didn't want any of his wins to be associated with them, that he was doing it for the blacks.

Sirius stealing James' jerseys throughout their quidditch games so that they'd both fly with the Potter name.

Seeker!sirius facing off Regulus who still bears the Black name on his back, weighing him down.

Sirius flying lighter and faster in front of Regulus so he's stuck staring at 'Potter' on his brother's back instead of their own last name.

Remus wearing potter on his back, but for Sirius too and not James

Remus and Lily laughing over their boys as 'Potter' is on their backs.

Peter, who always wore Potter on his back from the very second James got onto the team in second year, feeling James slipping away from him as more adore James.

Sirius being known as 'Potter' throughout his classes, not responding to 'Mr. Black' but only "Mr. Potter".

Sirius and James making twin cameos, "did you mean me or him?", in all of their classes, as Minnie slowly loses her sanity.

the Marauders + Valkyries being referred to as the potter clan/family (Regulus likes to think himself apart of this family, James assures him he is even as they are far apart)

Older Gryffindors saying 'here comes potter' when any of them come through the portrait door.

Marlene boasting that she was James' first recruit, 'always allowed there i was', 'i was the original', 'i came for Jamie stayed for his mum'.

Peter wishing he was loud enough to shout down hallways that actually he was the first potter, married and sworn in, with paper rings of their childhood.

James being flustered anytime anyone refers to themselves with his last name, fondness for his friends flowing through, the love that he carries in his heart not feeling like a burden anymore.

James noticing peter shy away from using Potter, even though he remembers a smaller peter saying his initials stood for "Peter Potter" not Peter Pettigrew.

James knowing the longing peter feels coursing through as everyone laughs over their strong bond.

James thinking that his heart is still a burden.

Peter rectifying this immediately, becoming louder by the nanosecond that he's a Potter.

Sirius saying that he was James' brother first jokingly.

Peter saying they're more than that without a hint of humour on his tongue and a curve to his lips that makes James want to k-

James thinking his heart is definitely a good thing.

They're all potters. In a way, it's a joining name, a unifying mark, and they chose their glue for their name. Even after Hogwarts, Sirius is still a potter, until he becomes a Lupin.

Yet he never does get to take that step. SIRIUS BLACK -the first time he's heard Black with his name in forever- is printed black and white on newspapers, killer of James and Lily Potter, it writes. Black killed the potters. Sirius believes that too. he killed the potter within him when he let his James and Lily die.

There's only one potter posters say, the undesirable Harry Potter. Mary potter lives in her hollow wishing she could remember why that's not quite right.
